We just returned from Phu Quoc. While we did not stay at Mango Bay, we did go there for dinner on motorbike from Chen Sea resort on two occasions and we are glad we did. The food is consistently good and the service is outstanding. Can't be the view either!

Our party of 10 had dinner here on 2 occasions in October, the first time everything was perfect, the meals came out in a timely manner, the tapas entree, the duck pancakes are worth a mention, absolutely delicious. as was the apple pie and the trio of brulees to die for. Service was fantastic and the ambience wonderful, well worth the trip if you are staying on the other side of the island. Our 2nd visit was a few nights later, and we had already booked for our party. Service this time was terrrible, we ordered our appetiser and main at the same time, but it took nearly an hour for anything to arrive, most of the dishes were excellent, but we were so hungry we would have eaten anything. One of our main courses had to be sent back as the beef was so overcooked and dry it was inedible. None of the mains were hot and we subsequently found out that this night was their annual staff party, hence the terrible service and lack of staff and care with preparation and service.
It is still the best option when you are sick of the seafood market, as the menu is diverse and well worth the 40 minute taxi ride from the market. It was such a pity that our second visit was so disappointing

You need to brace yourself to cope with the bumps in the road, but the location and atmosphere make up for that. Great menu options, delicious and fresh, at one of the most beautiful beaches around.

Between the sea and the garden where the food comes from, Mango Bay restaurant offers fresh food and a cozy, wooden island atmosphere. Overlooking the ocean, full of fresh herbs, vegetables and local spices, the restaurant is healthy, wholesome, fun and varied in its decor as well as its food. Coconut, cilantro, mint and chili make friends here as people from the resort and outside come in for lunch and dinner. Friendly, creative and insightful Chef Linh also caters for special needs, so ask her, perhaps a little in advance. The staff is friendly and rather efficient and speaks the best English I have heard in Vietnam. (I read the staff is trained during the off season - great initiative!).

There are good cocktails to be enjoyed and a varied wine list to choose from - and now vegetarians have their own menu. I can only vouch for the vegetarian food, it's excellent, and there are choices from gaspacho to Vietnamese spring rolls to paninis and all things curry with lentils or tofu. (The blackboard mentions local and international seafood and sushi specialties as well as many other things as daily specials for those who eat meat or fish). The freshness of the ingredients and the sea view alone make the experience worthwhile. It is romantic and also quite laid back - a lovely combination. The only thing missing might be a little more of a breeze or a few more fans on for those calm days when the sea is motionless, but only very slightly.
