“Comfortable, nice beach, 20min walk from main city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2014

We stayed four nights at Hiep Tranh hotel with free pickup at the airport by the hotel staff. We booked a regular room which we found very comfortable with mosquito net on the bed and all the usual amenities (a/c, tv).
Overall the staff was very helpful and friendly with the exception of the female restaurant staffs who were rude most of the time. We believe it was due to their inability to communicate any english.
We were able to book many tours at the reception desk, but we encourage you to shop around as there are slight variation of the offered tours. One of the tour we did was a private tour to explore the north side of the island. We booked this tour with the local mr. Bean who owns a small grocery shop very closeby. This tour costed 60$us for full day(8h). We were enchanted by this tour as mr Bean personally enriched our experience with his stories about the island and we had the flexibility to really extend our times to the part of the tours we enjoyed the most or even adapt and skip some parts. It was a little more expensive than the regular group north island ground tour, but we believe that this tour is really well suited for a private tour. You pay for the car, so for 3 people it would have been almost the same price as the group tour.
The food at the hotel restaurant is okay for the breakfast but a bit limited variety and even not so tasteful for the regular menu. There are a few good restaurants nearby on the main road, so don't bother. I suggest you to definately go take a look at Duong Duong fish market were you will have an amazing sea food experience at reasonnable price. We went there twice at night time.
We can easily recommand this hotel as you will have a direct access to the beach (beach chair and umbrellas), comfortable room at reasonnable price.

The staff see you as their source of work rather than employment; smiles and attention are not included.
Breakfast is hot, warm and cold but in all the wrong places, however the local dogs have no problem enjoying the food scraps in and around your table.

Can you sleep with insect repellant? Get used to it or spend a long night defending yourself from squadrons of microscopic bugs that never quench their thirst.

For the price of $40/night (Std room) it's poor value compared to HCMC and Vung Tau as far as I can see.
Beach is nice but coming from Australia, I've seen better...mmm.

Basic rooms but with hotwater and airco. Nice beach, limited but fine breakfast. A bit too expensive for €30 a night, should be closer to €15. Internet is fine, location is a bit far from town, but you can rent a scooter at the hotel for Only 170.000dong.

I'm not sure when the last time the rooms got more than a 'wipe over' as dust was visible in the air every time the sun shone. When it wasn't shiny you then got the musty damp smell.

They have a gorgeous beach, but there seemed to be hundreds of people crammed on it, definitely more people on their beach than guests they have..

Have a walk either way and just find a quiet bit of beach!

We stayed in a beachfront bungalow which was situated right next to the bar and kitchen so included the clattering of bottles etc. It was also well set back from the beach and the terrace in front of the bungalow had a high wall so that when sitting down one couldn't see either the beach or the sea - defeated the object of booking the beachfront option! The room itself was extremely basic and actually not clean in many places, the bedding had holes in it. The shower pressure was weak and was mended with gaffa tape. One of the shower doors had lost its bottom runners so swung freely. There were cobwebs, cracks and dirt / worn away paint on most walls. The wardrobe was damp and was being used as storage for some sections of timber - not able to unpack. Breakfast was included but choice was extremely limited with the cooked options being one small pancake or eggs / omelette which had been sitting on the hotplate going rubbery. All in all, an extremely disappointing experience. When it came to checking out, we were told that to pay by card would incur an additional 3% charge (not mentioned upon booking). The island is developing fast and I suggest looking at other options as this was extremely overpriced for what was offered. Please see attached pictures.

I've stayed here 6 times, and will no doubt visit again. This property is on a sandy beach, it's quiet and comfortable. Bungalows and main lodge rooms are clean and roomy. There are only two real downsides here. 1) It's not so easy to walk into town. Rent a motor scooter and the problem is solved. 2) The restaurant for the complimentary breakfast (good!) has flies and dogs. Luckily you can eat fast and scram.

Room Tip: The main lodge rooms are all good. Try to avoid the bungalows closest to the beach as you will feel...
