“Average hotel up the hill from Berat. ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

Castle Park is a 1.5km steep uphill climb from Berat itself. Pitch black at night and very hot during the day. But certainly walkable for the fit. Taxis are expensive as the road bridge is a little drive away from where you are likely to be.

The hotel has a certain abandoned feel. A large 'castle' building where only the bottom floor seems to be used (as the restaurant). Guests stay in fairly basic chalets outside. They are comfortable and affordable though. Clean, tidy, air con, working shower.

The staff were friendly although there were a few communication errors. Rafting turned out the be swimming down the canyon in a wet suit and helmet. The river was too low. We though we were rafting, the 2 other couples we were with said they were told we were hiking. I suppose our expectations of what we were told sort of met in the middle. Unusual but enjoyable experience.

Restaurant served good enough food, though best to ask what they have rather than go by the menu. Waiters very friendly and helpful. Top guys. Breakfast very edible. Seemed strange that the best tables were often reserved for people who never seemed to turn up though? The very angry Rottweilers round the corner from the tables were slightly unnerving but seemed well chained down.

The hotel is avaerage. Rooms are quite small, furnitures a bit old. The hotel seems left a bit over by the owner, who organizes also rafting in the river "Osum". It seems he is mostly focussed on rafting activities rather than mantaining the hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms seem almost the same quality.

I never thought we would find a place like castle park in Berati, we were on a tour and the day was rainy and cold, we went to have a drink at the restaurant and the owner, lovely Alma, suggested warm wine, it was the perfect drink after a days driving, we decided to have dinner there and the experience was the best one we had in our stay in Albania. The restaurant is very cozy, the service first class and what can we say about the excellent dinner we had? Delicious, fantastic, superb! Every dish was done with so much care, at the end of our meal, the owner Alma, approached us, talked to us about Barati, suggested some stops along the way, gave us a lot if information and treated us for after dinner drinks! This experience is one we will always remember, thank you Alma, for caring so much

We stayed at the Castle Park for three nights during our honeymoon and had the best time.

Berat is such an interesting city but the sound of cars and beeping horns can be a bit hectic. Castle Park is up the hill nestled amongst the trees and offers the respite you need on your holiday.

Our room was clean and spacious for two and had gorgeous views of the bush.

I don't normally eat at hotel restaurants but the in-house restaurant cooked the most incredible food and at such good prices. We got away with paying around $25AUD for dinner with a bottle of wine. Service was always delivered with a big smile and the hotel's owner, Alma, could not have been more lovely or accommodating.

I could not recommend Castle Park highly enough. There are just eight rooms so book in advance to avoid missing out.

Make sure you have breakfast on the outdoor terrace, the views of Berat and surrounding mountains are spectacular!

Stayed two nights with my girlfriend. Breakfast is excellent, but wait until you are fully served. An italian couple at the next table just left after the first course. I guess they were not used to 3 course breakfasts :) The place is on the edge of Berat and as it is on a hill, you probably do not want to climb up after a whole day citytour. A taxi from the citycenter costs around 600 ALL, which is not cheap by Albanian standards, but for most, it shall be ok. Had dinner once there and it was the same quality as breakfast. Do not be afraid of cocks (and I mean the animal) or rabbits (again, animal) as they do wander around freely. As someone before me said: places like Castle Park makes you want to go back to Albania and let you forget their roads.

Loved our stay here, the room was clean and comfortable. Our dinner on the terrace was exceptional, beautiful local food!! Alma, one of the owners was very friendly and helpful, recommending food and wine - all good. Breakfast was huge and delicious. I wish we could have stayed longer and experienced more of the outdoor activities they are promoting. Places like this make you want to return to Albania.

Stayed at Castle Park for 2 nights during our stay in Berat and had a wonderful time. The rooms are separated from the main building, almost like little lodges in the forest. Anyone looking for modern accommodations should be warned that things here are definitely rustic- but in a charming way. Nice bathroom with good shower, and air conditioning and WiFi in the rooms (signal carries from the main house). TV was very tiny and outdated, but wasn't even tempted to use it with everything to see in the town. The staff was outstanding- I got a new lightbulb for the lamp in under 2 minutes, the servers in the restaurant were quick and friendly, and one of the owners (Alma?) ensured that our dinner was one we won't soon forget. Really took the time to talk to us and sent out food she thought we'd like- which we definitely did! The breakfast was by the far the best we had at any hotel in Albania. As others have mentioned, the hotel is located on the top of a steep hill- we had a car and drove down to the bottom when we did our sight-seeing since the weather was so hot, which worked out fine, but I could imagine it being a hike if you had to walk. But overall, really lovely stay.
