On our way from Thimpu to Punakha our Tour Guide suggested we have lunch at this hotel. All of us accepted his suggestion without doubting any thing. As guided by him we went into the hotel to place the order and had planned to go for a sightseeing trip till the time the food was preapred by the hotel. This we were told was a routine in Bhutan.

On entering the hotel we were provided with a ala-carte menu card which had very limited options. When we started enquiring / selecting from the card we were informed that it will not be possible to preapre for the items selected by us and hence we should go for the buffet which was on offer at Rs. 350 per head plus 10 % service charge and 10% tax.

When we refused for this offer, we were told that we can order a menu ala-carte for the menu which is generally preapred for the buffet lunch- being tired and wanting to complete a site we agreed to that and order 3 plates for a non-veg curry and 5 plates for veg curry, some breads (rotis) and the other usual stuff. It was made clear that we were a group of 13 people which included 2 kids.

On returning, after about 1.5 hours, the food was ready and kept on the table - there was no one else in the restaurant other than our group. May be they were well advised.

The food was good in taste but was very less in quantity - 3 non-veg curreys served in a single bowl, same about the 5 veg curreys ordered. All of this for an exhorbitant cost.

The person in hotel (presumably the owner) was horribly rude when we complained about the quantity, rather than accepting his mistake he back answered. This got one of our group members angry who finally removed all the anger on the guide who suggested that we go to this hotel.

The food was not even served and for that we were charged 10% service charge.

All in all a horrible experience for our team in an otherwise enjoyable and memorable trip to this beautiful place called BHUTAN.

Visited this place in April 2014. Manager took our order , rice and daal & chicken curry ......... the bare minimum requirement of guests for lunch.

After 45 minutes of waiting , he said , he can't cook , food cannot be served.
for reasons not declared.

we then moved to some other hotel.

The food smelled and tasted good and the service was great because of a very attentive owner. Otherwise of course it is the usual buffet style Bhutanese tourist cuisine so one has to be realistic in their judgement.

From its high point location, the restaurant has attractive views over the surrounding countryside. Much of the food in Bhutan is fairly mediocre but the ‘Village Restaurant’, although still offering food buffet style, serves freshly cooked dishes that have been prepared in small batches and replenished quickly when necessary. This is a far cry from other restaurants where food is cooked in bulk and kept warm for long periods – not ideal where meat is concerned. The loos were above average for Bhutan! Staff were friendly and helpful, again a marked comparison with many other places.
