“Nice hotel, clean, large rooms!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

We stayed here two nights in September, before and after riding the Cumbres & Toltec Railway. This hotel is still just like hotels were in the 70's, with the modern additions of Wi-Fi and a remote control TV. I liked it!

The hotel has been extremely well-maintained and was very clean. Rooms were large. Beds were comfy.

We rather liked that there was no fridge or microwave in the room. (I'd rather not sleep with someone else's cooking odors.)

Coffee in the lobby would have been nice, but there are some cafe's very nearby.

We will definitely stay here again on our next trip!

My friend and I stayed at the Branding Iron Motel in the heart of Chama. We had 2 queen beds and a large flat screen TV. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It is 7/10 of a mile from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad station, and close to Heron & El Vado lakes. It had air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, in room coffee, and pet friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed 2 nights to enjoy the mountain train ride. For over $100. there was no breakfast or coffee in the lobby. Only two pillows and old style bedspread. The room was large and clean. We liked the High country for dinner and the Boxcar Cafe for breakfast, great food at both places.

For the location an excellent choice. Rooms are spacious, very clean and quiet. Good, no nonsense beds. We had one of our better night's sleeps there. We would definitely come back to this Motel. Although they don't serve breakfast their recommendation of Selina's Cafe nearby was great.

Room Tip: As I always recommend, upper floor, end of corridor. You normally can't go wrong

The rooms were quite large, quiet and well equiped. The facility is well maintained and clean even though it is an older property. It does not have a free breakfast which would be nice to have. The office staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

We stayed at the Branding Irom Motel have a wonderful long day on the Toltec train. The owners were very nice and friendly. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Thanks for the bottle opener we needed it. The bed was comfortable and she sheets smelled fresh and clean. The shower felt good pleanty of water coming out. We will diffiantly stay there again.

We stayed here 5 nights, having had good stays in 2002 and 2006. It hasn't changed and while scrupulously clean is beginning to show its age and the on-site restaurant we enjoyed in 2002 has long since closed. But the beds are comfortable and the rooms very large, though lacking a refrigerator and microwave. There is a communal ice machine. The a/c works well and is reasonably quiet. As previously the owners were friendly and helpful and they clearly take pride in the property and trouble to maintain the grounds carefully. It's excellent value for money in a town that doesn't seem to have great choice of quality accommodations. It's very convenient for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad which offers an unforgettable journey.
In the absence of the on-site restaurant we enjoyed the High Country Restaurant down the road in 2006 and it was every bit as good this time, but be prepared to wait for a table.

Room Tip: Avoid being located in the corner near the laundry and ice-machine.
