I came to Chama specifically for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, and stayed here for two nights in September, and I will definitely be back. I arrived around 9 but my key had been left in an envelope for me outside of the office.
I stayed in Room #1. The room was clean and charmingly decorated. The coffee pot with coffee, hot chocolate, and various other items was a nice touch. With my windows propped open I could hear the noises of the engines hissing in the yards all night, and was woken up up the whistle early the next morning (which I was totally fine with).
It was rather chilly around this time of the year, so I totally didn't notice that there was no air conditioning. (I did make use of the heater though) The windows could all be opened and there was a fan, so I wouldn't have minded this at all had I been there in the summer.
The morning I checked out I had pulled my car around the front to load it, and it was covered by some sort of leaves dropped by the tree it had been parked under. The lady who was working at the desk was out watering the plants, and very kindly offered to hose off my car for me.
Was it great? Yes. Do I recommend it? YES!!!!
