“A perfect Christmas Day destination..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2011

While the regular service was going on in side this chapel, we wondered around the grounds. It was Christmas Day, snow was on the ground, and all was still. I am glad we visited today. Most of the businesses were closed (obviously), but if everything was open, I feel like this could easily seem like a tourist trap. It was a great place to stroll, think, and reflect on this day.

The Church is beautiful and peaceful; Mass was simple yet profound and the surroundings absolutely incredible.

“Not Inviting At All”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2011

In a world of Spanish Missions and beautiful churches, this one left a lot to be desired. Firstly, the parking was all blocked off - except employee and handicapped. Not that there was a lack of parking down the street, but it was just telling that the staff considered themselves before they consider others. That attitude is pervasive across the entire experience.

I have been to cathedrals all over Europe.. missons in the southwest.. and I have rarely seen the number of signs telling you what you can't do...

All-in-all, I really wanted to like this place.. but I just.. didn't.

“Charming, picturesque historic church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2011

This lovely, small 200 year old Hispanic church was built over a hole in the ground where a crucifix was found in the early 1800s. The dirt from the hole where this happened is supposed to have healing power and there is evidence around the church of people who have been healed. We attended a mass there recently in both English and Spanish. If you are in the area, do not miss this church and the lovely area around it.

“A Mystical World”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2011

We attended the 11am weekday mass, really a rosary I think. The service was in both Spanish and English. Then we proceeded to the side room to view and obtain the blessed, healing soil. As non Catholics we felt at ease and had a deep experience. Gift shop has good books and info about the El Santuario.
