We booked late for Cloudcroft and we had a really hard time finding a vacancy, so went with the only thing we could find on Tripadvisor. We messaged and tried to call the owner on the tripadvisor confirmation to get check in information with no results. We got to cloudcroft and found the place, but no one was there, so we went to a business to wait to see if we could contact the folks. We finally got the housekeeper, and she informed us that they didn't show a reservation for this room and it had not been cleaned. She was very kind and concerned and let us use a room that was ready and not booked. We were aghast at the room. Thanks to the kind housekeeper, it was very clean--but that was it's only saving grace. The heating was so scary that we refused to use in fear of dying in the night and were very cold. The outside is so unkempt and uncared for that it was embarrassing to stay there. The bed would have been comfortable except that it seemed to be out of kilter and when you lied down, you were in fear of falling out of bed. The owner's excuse for the confusion was that he didn't check, because this was a site that he did not usually book through. That didn't keep him from taking our money, however. We were so unhappy that we left a day early and ended up in Alamagordo. The room pictured is the room we booked, but not the room we ended up with.
