Owner description: One of New Mexico's most visited sights, this state park is uncommercialized and filled with strange rock formations.

This little New Mexico State Park is an absolute find! It is clean, spacious, and well equipped. The park has many developed sites among the rock formations and 10 sites with water and electricity. The developed sites are more scenic, while the hook-up sites are more traditionally lined up. However they also have nice views and are not right on top of each other.
The park is away from any towns (Silver City 30 miles) and is well known for its dark skies. In fact there are occasional star parties in the park.
We had a delightful overnight at City of Rocks and will go again another time.

A beautiful array of natural "sculptures" in the middle of nowhere. Awes inspiring. Makes you wonder and imagine their origin, purpose, etc. A must see.

North of Deming about 45 minutes but boy was it worth the trip. Think I wore the camera out. Very quiet place. Acres or rocks reminiscent of stone henge. Places to camp both tent and trailer.

If you like dark skies and being away from the city lights and hustle and bustle, then this is the place. The scenery is breathtaking and surreal. You'd swear you were walking around on another planet. Just be warned that if you are in an RV, there is no dumping station in this campground, so conserve!

This state park is like nothing we have ever experienced before. Fifty feet tall boulders greet you as you drive in from utter flat terrain (coming from Deming). These monoliths protect you from sun and wind.....well, almost. We left for a morning hike up the mesa and as we came back, we could see our tent out of the stakes and upside down. Thankfully, one of the many boulders stopped it from going too far! The visitor center is informative and bathrooms are clean. The campsites are well-spaced and private. The first night the skies were crystal clear and the stars were bright. Unfortunately, our stay was cut short by a massive dust storm the second night and the scheduled ranger talk on the constellations was cancelled. They have an observatory in the center of the park with a telescope. We will be going back!
