I just returned from a weekend at the Elephant Butte Inn and was so wonderfully surprised by this quaint, friendly family-owned spot. The view of the lake is awesome, so serene and quiet. The hike to the lake is easy and gives you a great feel for the desert. I saw rabbits, quail and lots of other birds on the way.

The rooms are large, clean, comfortable. I especially appreciated having a mini fridge and microwave in my room. I ate delicious meals in the restaurant there - the steak and salad combo were outstanding!! And the staff - you really couldn't ask for more! They were so helpful, accomodating, friendly and made me feel right at home. I enjoyed a massage at their new "Ivory Spa" and it was heaven! I haven't had a ton of massages before, but this was one of the best I've had.

Elephant Butte may be off the beaten path, but it's worth a trip!

Stayed one night Feb. 26. King size bed, room 213 upper floor, corner room, lakeside. Updated furnishings and decor. Very clean. Bathroom is small, sink outside. Bathroom was clean. Bed was great, lots of pillows. Heater/cooler is a wall unit and can be noisy, but we had it off and it was total silence in the hotel (I'm a very light sleeper). It was a sunday night and I didnt see any other people. There is a restaurant onsite which has standard pub fare. Its slim pickings and I thought the one stop offerings here were perfect. This is a pet friendly property and Im pretty sure there was wireless in the room but we didnt need it. You can also walk to the water, about 25mins on a nice, sandy trail. Free continental breakfast (breads, muffins, cereals). Full service restaurant and bar. Staff very nice and helpful (even trainees). Ample parking. Spa onsite but didnt use. I would recommend and stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel after reading other reviews and were really looking forward to our lakeview and all of the beauty to be seen. The lake was sooo far away it was like a bad commercial. The service of the front desk was good, but the dining service left alot to be desired. We even found ourselves wondering if the restaurant was even open for breakfast. The decor left alot to be desired. It probably has not been updated since the early 90's. It did seam clean though. There are not alot of options for that part of the country, I'll try somewhere else before I would consider returning.

Clean rooms. Fast check in. Great customer service. Room 222 had a great view of the lake. Very nice for the money. Restaurant not crowded and we had excllent service. Very reasonable prices and lots of food for the money. Wait staff very friendly. The lounge act was not for us but the over 65 crowd seemed to love it. We will stay again.

The Elephant Butte Inn (used to be Quality Inn) was a very surprisingly nice hotel. Set on the edge of Elephant Butte Lake State Park it has beautiful views of the lake and the hills at sunset (make sure you get the "lakeview" rooms...rather then the parking lot rooms), very clean and comfortable rooms. The staff was very friendly and the food in the tavern was first rate. A great value all around, I would recommend it to anyone going through the area or needing a weekend "away".

Got reasonable rates with AAA discount (don't forget to ask!). Stayed in a room on the 2nd floor with a view of the parking lot! Room was large, very clean with great toiletries!

Pool is OK, if a little small. The usual annoyance of children running round and round the edge put us off! Had a very good meal in the restaurant. Good food, well prepared and lots of it! There is also a bar with live music. Clientele was a little odd and raucous so we didn't stay long.

Breakfast was a reasonable buffet of the usual fayre (waffles etc). Overall a good place to stay if you have to be in that part of New Mexico (!)
