Hotel where stars stayed in 30's and 40's. It's a 1930's era hotel and full of memorabilia. Charming and quirky and very clean. Due to the era it was built the bathrooms are very small but if you're used to 1930's hotels you know that going in. I truly enjoyed it,

We stayed here for one night whilst travelling through Gallup on Route 66.

Pros:
-Free parking and wifi.
-Breathtaking and historic hotel.

Cons:
-The lady on duty the day we checked in was not very serviceminded. We arrived a bit early, but asked if it was possible to check-in. She told us we couldn't, and when we asked if she had any suggestions on what to do whilst waiting she couldn't come up with anything.. Well OK. When we came back to check-in there wasn't anyone behind the front desk, and we had to wait for ten minutes before she appeared. She didn't point us in the directions of our rooms, neither did she tell us about the elevator.. So we dragged our heavy bags up the stairs.

-The restaurant. We ordered three different dishes for lunch, and neither of us finished it.

-Bathroom door couldn't be locked.

The standard is what you expect at such a grand and historic hotel.

Having read lots of negative reviews we were very pleasantly surprised (and pleased)by the helpful and pleasant staff.

The Hotel is just crammed with memorabilea and is fascinating. The rooms are named after movie stars who have stayed in the hotel, ours was the "Kirk Douglas" room.

The rooms are largely un- restored so they are quaint and quirky (don't expect everything to work 100%)

Over the top in many ways we enjoyed our stay and thought we received good value for money.

The breakfast was not very good

Room Tip: Back from the road frontage is best

This is where the movie stars of the 30s and 40s stayed when filming was being down for the classic Westerns on location in the area. From John Wayne to Mae West and everyone in between — yes, they slept here. And you can too.

The hotel is very well maintained, the rooms lovely (and named after the stars, whether they ever slept in that particular room or not . . .), the restaurant serviceable and the gift shop high end.

It's a great location on Route 66 and is filled with memorabilia from the Golden Age of Hollywood and the romance of the West. Definitely take it in if the West rocks your boat! We had a great time!

After a long drive on route 66 we pulled in to stay the night.
The grand lobby was full of color and reminiscent of its time.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. Interesting restaurant and bar. Really enjoyed walking around, seeing the pics and legends on the walls throughout the hotel. Its old and we are lucking that they have tried to save a unique part of american history. So take a moment to soak up the nostalgia of whats left on Route 66. A must visit, even if you dont stay.

I really wanted to like this hotel more than I did. After all, it is the Grand Dame of the Route 66 hotels. The moment you walk into the lobby, it harks back to golden days of movies. We booked two queen rooms and the receptionist moved some things around and gave us two adjoining rooms. We were satisfied enough with our room. Western furniture--a queen bed, table, chairs, tiny bathroom. However when I looked into the room next door that my sister got, I got a shock. She had 2 queen sized beds in opposite sides of her huge room, a fridge, a microwave, coffee maker and stove and hob with full crockery! We also shared a balcony which we were able to use through the door with screen door. That was a bonus except that the bannister was covered in pigeon droppings. We had breakfast in the restaurant(not included). Service was miserable and it was quite pricey.

If you remember John Wayne and Tom Mix, this hotel might be for you, I don't think the hotel has changed much since they stayed here. You can tell that there must have been a lot going on in the old days, kinda like in The Shining. The lobby is gorgeous and reminiscent of a grand history at one time. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was ok. We ate in the restaurant and had drinks in the bar with undistinguished food and drinks, missing the flair of the old times. We like the nostalgia, and the staff were very helpful with our luggage. We would stay here again.
