Enjoyed the artwork of local students from various schools throughout New Mexico...the storyteller museum was excellent. Great photographs of artists from past years on display as well as weavings, sand painting artwork and pottery. Angela's cafe has delicious soup and sandwiches....thank you friendly Gallupians!

Located in the Amtrak train station, up the stairs across from the cafe, the museum occupies a small area. Only open Mon.-Fri., too bad for tourists in Gallup for the weekend. They need longer hours, more publicity and more space, because what is there is very special and desperately needed. They champion the artistic skills and development of this and the future generation of Native American artists and craftsmen. Often the walls are filled with paintings and drawings from children in K-12 schools, and they are covered with blue ribbons and other recognition of how much potential these children have. There are examples of sculptures, weaving and other art forms that merit display in famous urban galleries. But they are here, upstairs in the Amtrak station, awaiting appreciative visitors, awaiting more funding, awaiting a better venue, and awaiting the means to insure these young artisans have the resources and the opportunity to dedicate their lives and to enrich the world with their artistic expressions.
