We don't often get the chance to escape our business in Albuquerque, but just an hour or so to the north are the Jemez Mountains and we love that area. High Country, they call it, at 7,500 feet and above. Alpine Country is what I call it, with air so light and clean you can breathe deep, deep, deep and feel the life come into your lungs and heart with each breath. On this Labor Day weekend we chose to discover Elk Mountain Lodge and reserved the Tall Pines Cabin, which is set apart from the other accommodations and allowed us to bring our dogs (good doggies, they don't jump around on the furniture or otherwise tear the place up). We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place to rest and re-charge, and taking in the beauty of the High Country at this site was just perfect. Garth and Robin are wonderful inn keepers and made us feel welcome right from the start. The breakfast they prepare each morning (included) is superb - best darn breakfast burritos and hot cereal we've had! They are deeply knowledgeable about the mountains and more than willing to guide your travels around the area. We really want to thank them for making our stay a splendid one.
