For a nice peaceful outing in the desert with an occasional sound of a distant train, this is the place. For only $14 per night you get a large RV site with water and electricity ( 20, 30 & 50 amp). The views are nice and the hikes are easy. Restrooms are clean and the rangers are friendly. It's also between two fun towns with plenty to do .... Las Cruces and Hatch, NM. Don't forget the near by vineyard.

We went there to do some funkaying with Southwest Expeditions; they are the nicest people! It was a really fun day, low budget and there are some beautiful views.

Beautiful Panoramic view of the dam from RV campsite. Nice nature walk paths Tubing and canoeing down the Rio Grande from the dam makes the place fresh and cool during those hot summer days. Fishing is allowed in designated areas. Campsites are clean and camp hosts are extremely nice. Park law enforcement keep you and belongings safe. Picnic sites by the dam are also kept well maintained and clean. Highly recommended for a quick getaway.

My husband and I went to Leasburg Dam state park on a Monday afternoon. The visitor center was ok. The lady ranger was really nice. There are two parts of the park that are about a mile apart by car. The visitor center and RV/camping area are close together. The campground had scrub bush and very short trees. There were covers over the picnic tables. I saw electric and water site but no full hookups. The other part of the park is further down Fort Selden road. The entrance is just before the Rio Grande River and could easily be missed. There was lots of water in the Rio Grande River at the end of June. There was a long dam across the river and water was running over. By the dam there was a pretty park with picnic tables and benches. The park was well manicured and young swimmers were in the river. The river appeared to be shallow. We saw ducks, rabbits and quail. There was also a fairly large aqua-duck with a cute foot bridge. Nice park.

We spent two nights here recently in the tent area. Our biggest complaint was we picked a spot close to the canal and were plagued with biting insects most of the time, though it was unusually wet (thunderstorms) for this time of year.

Otherwise, this is a really nice park with great staff. There are ample easy hiking trails, some down to the Rio Grande. Bathrooms with free hot showers, a play area for kids, a trading library, very well maintained. I would definitely stay here again. It is close to I-25 but very quiet.
