I remember the first time I spied lovely Mescalero lake, and the associated Inn. It was like I was plucked out of the ordinary, and transported to a lush verdant mountain wonderland. The proprietors always remembered me, and those that didn't always wore a smile either way, which was a nice touch. The gaming was always fun, as was the delicious food. So much to do, you can't help but visit. Can't wait to get back.

Well its a beautiful place on paper and in person. Our Suite was roomy and nice had 2 private balconies on 5th floor. Very Roomy.
Several aggravating things. Not enough info concerning Ruidoso area. No Menu's for the restaurants in Hotel. This place is listed as a Resort $12.00 per day charge fee. This gets you 2 bottles of water and Valet parking. (but you have to tip) Concierge area is no help. Be warned if you arrive at your check in time standard response is "I'm Sorry your room is not ready" and we waited for 1 1/2 hours and had to go back in line to see if room was ready. It is a mad house from 3:00 to 5:00pm very short staffed in the Valet dept and apparently in Domestic as well. The Buffet is priced way higher on weekend and its the same food as through the week. Not really gourmet or resort quality. The staff is slow and probably understaffed, the line grows while you see empty places to sit and absolutely no urgency at all. I was taken aback by this. Some of the food was good like the Fry Bread. Did not eat at any other place cause didn't know where Apache Tee was till 2 days into our stay. Did eat one night off the concession cart and took to the room cause the buffet line was to long. They do have a restaurant down stairs looked at menu and too high for us and I assume was gourmet. Not a whole lot to do there if you don't gamble or play golf. I think overall the hole problem is staffing. There were 2 standout employees Carl at Valet and Candyce in the Buffet.

Room Tip: get a lakeside view with balcony. A/C unit was noisy when it came on. room door are heavy and when p...

We recently stayed at the Inn of the Mountain Gods during a trip to Southern New Mexico. We found the rooms very nice and comfortable (except that the shower was very unpredictable and started out warm, never hot, then would go ice cold once you were all lathered up and, eventually, if you were lucky, back to warm). The location of the Inn out on the Mescalero Apache Reservation is very beautiful and I recommend taking a walk out over the dam to the adjoining reservoir. I would have given this place a 5 star rating but for 2 things, the cold shower and, down in the casino, there was a "stick-man" at the craps table that worked there that was - very rude, to his co-workers and players alike. He was eye-ing and ogling any attractive lady that walked and treated some of the lady workers there with utter disrespect in my view. He came across as a bully, one poor gal working at the table would make neat stacks of chips and he would take the stick and knock them all down, so she would have to do it all over again. Seemed he was hitting on her or, perhaps punishing her for denying his advances... I don't know what was going on, but, it made me uncomfortable being there, so I left the table. He had this air about him that he was the one in charge of the entire place and everyone there was subject to his whims. Maybe, since I am used to very nice, professionally ran casino's in Nevada and California that there is a huge cultural difference in coming to a small place like this out in Southern New Mexico. Who knows. I would say if you can ask in advance for a room with hot water in the shower/tub and avoid the craps table if that dude is working there, then you would have a great stay!

Room Tip: If you pay a premium, you can get a nice lake view room with a balconey, but, if not, the so called...

If you like waiting in line forever to paid along with unfriendly staff, this is your place to visit. The dinner buffet is what you may feed to your unwanted guest if you ready this like someone. My wife and I could find anything that we enjoyed. The dessert were also very bad . It's very sad that you go to a restaurant and nothing is suitable for a human being. The worst buffet on my list of many!!! Very Sad!!!!!

If you are familiar with this area then you know Inn of the Mountain Gods is part of a Resort and a Casino. They are on Lake Mescalaro where there is fishing, paddleboating, canoeing, as well as swimming. They also have a riding stable and a nice golf course as well as several restaurants ranging from family friendly to coat and tie. There is a game room with pool tables and video games as well as a business center. They have a very nice indoor pool and spa and they also offer professional massage services. The resort itself is beautiful and laid out very nicely. There are a few shops and a Starbucks inside as well as a nice Casino. I would compare it to a nice Sheraton or Hyatt. The reason I didn't give it all 5 stars, well, two reasons... one, it is a little pricey, and two the smoke from the casino drifts out into the common areas and is unpleasant if you are a non smoker. The rooms are large and nice and well equipped. The decor is earthy and there are Native American accents. We are regulars here and have never been disappointed. (well, unless you count the donations made in the casino, LOL) During summer months they often show movies outside on a huge inflatable screen or have other Native American events or dances. It is a nice place to go in the woods for a relaxing weekend or to try your luck at the tables or the machines. We do generally walk away with more than we came with. I will try to review a few of the restaurants within the next few days.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony that overlooks the lake, it is very peaceful and serene and a great...

We went here for our anniversary and enjoyed it VERY much! The resort itself is very beautiful and loys of great views. We stayed in a balcony room overlooking the lake. Awesome view! casino was nice and lots to choose from. Food and drinks were a little pricey but overall pretty good. Ate buffet at the gathering of he nations and didn't care to much for it. Used the fitness room and is was great. Lots of equipment and free weights. Enjoyed it. Unfortunately pool was being renovated at the time. Order room service for breakfast and it was definitely worth the price. Tasted delicious and PLENTY of food on each plate. Ruidoso is a great place to visit and lots to do. Would recommend staying here at least once.

Beautiful setting & classy hotel.

Living in San Patricio now I doubt there will be any reason to stay here. But I sure like to come here.

The place is full of classy Indian art work & the views are world class.
