Barbara took us in, treated us like gold. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Inviting and beautiful.

The food she prepared was even gluten free because she asked if we had food allergies.

We will stay with her time and time again. A must do experience . Like being taken care of by mom:) Elaine Nitse, Betty Jo Norris and Norma Clark

Stayed the night at this wonderful B&B. Thanks to the lovely, friendly people in Raton, we got to see the dress rehearsal for " Steel Magnolias", at the Historic 1914 Shuler Theater. Quite good! Barbara served coffee and a lovely cherry tart, before the show. Her breakfast the next morning was excellent. Waffles with peaches, from her own tree, eggs and bacon, and lots of really good coffee. Spent two hours at the great museum in town, Took Bill Fegan's tour of the Shuler Theater, wonderful. Another great antique shop, besides Barbara's, is" The Heirloom Shop" on South 1st Street, Frank the owner, was the one who told us about "Steel Magnolias" and helped find a way to see it, through his daughter Brenda, who is in it. She is also a co-owner of their shop. Stayed in the Blue Willow room, great bed and linens, very comfy and quiet. Barbara's recommendation of The Historic Icehouse, was spot on, excellent burgers and fries!

Room Tip: Only a sink in the room, tub and toilet down the hall.

We were in Raton for training at the Whittington NRA Center. We try to stay at B&Bs wherever we travel because we are both breakfast eaters and we have so enjoyed almost all the places we have stayed before. Although we usually avoid "Victorian" B&Bs because they often are so overdecorated that there is no room for our luggage, clothes, etc., there was no other choice, as Barbara's was the only one in the area. As it turns out, although the house is fillled with (gorgeous) antiques and is nicely decorated, provisions had been made for travelers' convenience and comfort (not just a showcase for the decor). Barbara was completely accommodating, and provided some of the best breakfasts we have had - so bountiful that my 6'2" husband (who generally chooses meals in restaurants that promise to have the most food) has declared he needs to go on a diet!

Room Tip: The Victorian room is probably the best bet, as it has the most private bath accommodations.

We had a delightful overnight stay at Heart's Desire. Barbara welcomed us with brownies and tea...a perfect snack after arriving by train with a short walk to her inn. Loving history, we enjoyed our chat about the history of the bed and breakfast and the mining and railroad history of the town of Raton. The inn is a beautifully restored Victorian home. Our room was quite large and comfortable, with a shower and sink in the room and the bath just around the corner. Breakfast was delicious---bacon, waffles topped with peaches from the tree in the garden and orange juice in a frosted goblet. We look forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: The Victorian Room has a shower and sink in the room, which was convenient.

I stayed here on a Sunday while on a road trip. I chose the inn because I did not want to stay in a hotel, and I love bed and breakfast establishments. Barbara was very welcoming when I arrived in the early afternoon, and after settling in (incidentally, she graciously let me store some food in her fridge) we had a nice chat while she fed me petit fours and tea (HUGE selection of tea, BTW). The inn also doubles as a vintage/antique store, so just be aware that the entire house is filled with knickknacks, some more valuable and breakable than others. Having said that, I did not mind the clutter although some may feel a touch of claustrophobia.

I stayed in the Victorian Room, which has a sink in the room and a shower housed in what was probably a former closet. I would have preferred the space be given over to a private toilet, but since I was the only person in the inn that night, I didn't have to share the toilet in the hall bathroom (which was just outside the room). The facilities were clean, but the room itself could have used a good dusting; I suspect the problem is that there are so many things -- did I mention that the room had more than a dozen vintage hats lining the walls? -- that a thorough dusting probably doesn't take place that often.

Barbara had to be at her school early, so she left a delicious breakfast in the kitchen for me to heat up, and I helped myself to juice and tea. She does have a "back-up" innkeeper who could have been on hand to serve the breakfast, but I didn't think she needed to go through the trouble for just one person. Over all, a cool house with a kind and personable innkeeper, both reasons enough for a return visit.

If you imagine a B&B to have Victorian furniture and floral decorations, you've just imagined the Hearts Desire. The inn was cozy and clean. We enjoyed soaking in the claw-foot tub upstairs, but found the bed in the Victorian Suite to be a little uncomfortable. (I'm 5'10" and my feet were hanging off.) Barbara was quite welcoming and served a great breakfast of peach waffles, with whipped cream and cinnamon on top!

We have stayed at Heart's Desire twice, and have had a wonderful experience each time. The house is lovely and comfy, and Barbara Riley is a delightful person and cooks a wonderful breakfast to boot!
On our last trip, we had trouble with our rental car on a weekend when no service was available. At our wit's end, we called Barbara, who was happy to travel across town and pick up us and our belongings in a driving rainstorm. In addition, she used her local contacts to help get us back on the road at a time when all of the repair shops were closed. Thank you so much, Barbara! We can't wait until our next opportunity to visit Heart's Desire B&B!
