“Good Stay W/Very Friendly Staff”
Reviewed 2 February 2010

Just got through staying at the Alpine on my way to Santa Fe for business. My girlfriend and I grabbed a little R&R in Red beforehand and are glad we took advantage of the opportunity. Had not stayed at the Alpine previously but were extremely satisfied with our stay and the service we received. Place is a very large property with fifty or so rooms right on the river and next to the chairlift. Our room was large and had a king bed and a fireplace. Staff was very accomodating and helped us with all sorts off questions regarding nightlife, restaurants, ski info, etc... They made us feel like we were right at home.

Being somewhat of a neat freak, I want to preface my remarks by saying I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this establishment and will stay with them once again on my next visit to Red River.

I did want to point out some things to management. Here is how I graded the cleanliness of my room: Toilet, lavatory, bathtub, tile floors, linens, towels - all A's. These were all extremely clean and looked as though they were all new.The only issue in the bathroom involved a somewhat loose toilet paper holder. Carpet, curtains, furniture - B's. Carpet was freshly vacuumed but it did have a few stains, the curtains had a little sun damage (and were missing a couple of hooks) and the furniture could have been polished a little more thoroughly. (Some of the furniture had some nicks. If you use Old English on a rag and touch these areas up the furniture would look a lot better). The area underneath the beds was extremely clean but when I pulled the dresser away from the wall I found a couple of candy wrappers and some dust accumulation. Also, the fan looked like it had been cleaned recently but one of the blades had been missed and it still had some dust on it. The picture frames were in good stead and had all been recently cleaned. Some other minor things included the maid service. They did a good job in the room with cleaning the bath, making the beds, getting all the trash out, etc... but they did not vacuum thoroughly (they might have rushed because we were present) and they did not wipe down our chairs on the balcony.

Overall, the room passed muster but thought management would like to hear about some of the things I discovered so they can pass them on to their housekeeping staff. Still a very nice property and hope their management takes my comments in the spirit they were intended. We will be staying with them again in the future. Oh, and by the way, the German music adds to the already great atmosphere of the property!

Stayed in 3 bedroom condo at Alpine Lodge. I am not a fan of 50 year old rooms on the whole, but I am really not a fan when they are not kept very clean. Do not expect "maid" service daily. It is more like towel service and maybe your bed will be made. The day before we left they stopped even making the beds. The location is great. The town is cute. Great place to go for beginner skiers and families. The only good food we had while in Red River was at Timbers whci is a short walk from Alpine Lodge.

We have changed up an existing policy to ensure our Housekeeping does a better job servicing based on your comments. We had not been doing a good enough job on these on a consistent basis for a variety of reasons but feel confident we now have measures in place to correct the matter. Also, we do keep staff available late and they would have been more than happy to service your cabin had you called our front desk. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Excellant location, large room, but beds hard bedspreads are so faded and old along with the blankets. Needs updating bad!!! We checked other places while there and we will stay at the Best Western next time they are cheeper newer nice rooms, closer to lift and provide deluxe breakfast free.

Thank you for your feedback. We do not single out and mention other lodges so we cannot address another property's pricing. We are the largest lodge in town (both in number of rooms and acreage) and our pricing is based on numerous factors such as location (on the river, on Main St. and adjacent to the new chairlift), property amenities (large park, two hot tubs, indoor and outdoor group meeting facilities, bbq grills, playgrounds, etc...) and room amenities (full kitchens, wood and gas burning fireplaces, king beds, multiple bedrooms, large living areas, etc...)
All fifty of our units have had some type of 'updating' in the last couple of years. This includes one or more of the following: new bathtubs, new fireplaces, new tile work, new bathroom fixtures, new paint, new kitchen appliances, new aspen ceilings, new flat screen TVs, new beds, new furniture and/or new lighting.
The bedspreads you mentioned were actually relatively new but were of a lighter color and design than we normally use. We have since ordered more of the darker design with brighter colors (and have been receiving favorable comments from our guests on this look). Our beds are on the firm side but most of our guests prefer them this way so that is what we have been ordering of late.

This hotel is in a great location for skiing. You can walk to the lodge and lifts in minutes. The rooms are spacious and nice. Two sinks were nice as well. No internet except for lobby. Requested later checkout than 10:00 a.m. but was denied. Have not ever stayed in a place with such an early checkout time with zero flexibility. Nice place however.

We do have the strict 10am check-out time so we can ensure the unit is ready for the next incoming guest. Although we have a 3pm check-in time we do try to get our arriving guests in as early as possible. A lot of these guests have been on the road all night so as a courtesy to them we do try to get them in as soon as the unit has been cleaned and inspected. So although we don't have a lot of wiggle room on the check-out time we do on the check-in time and over the years the majority of our guests have been appreciative of this policy.

This place is dated, but that's almost all ski resort areas. We got the cheapest room, so it was VERY small, but we were creative and used every inch of space. Quick walk to lifts, private hot tubs which we LOVED, great location to food, drinks, etc. The bed is a little hard for my taste and the bathroom was small, but for the price/location, it was a great deal. Front desk was very nice and offered great suggestions of places to eat, things to do, etc. Will stay here again next year!

Thank you for your feedback. We actually do have some brand new units which will be in use soon. (They will be the newest rooms in Red River having never been slept in). These will be very upscale but still with some definite European influence. We are also in the process of remodeling some of our larger cabins but are going for the rustic feel with these (Most of our guests prefer the 'mountain' look and not so much the new and modern). Most of our smaller units have been getting new tile work, new bathtubs, new bathroom fixtures and new flat screen TVs. (We hope to have all of these done by the end of the year). We have been getting some feedback on the new beds we have been buying as far as them being a little on the hard side. We have done surveys and the vast majority of our guests prefer firm beds. Glad you liked the private use hot tubs. We are the only lodge in Red River with two hot tubs so it does allow us to offer the 'private' time use.

First time to this little mountain town. We were impressed by the scenery and the people. Our room was spacious and nice. It had the basics, was decorated nicely and the fireplace was an added amenity (we paid a little extra but it was well worth it) Everything was very clean. We loved our view and the staff could not have been any more polite and courteous!
