Went years ago when I was in high school, now that I have 3 boys it was a blast! They loved playing in the sand and water! We rented a paddle boat and a paddle board for a total of $15 for an hour. We were worn out after the hour and went back to playing in the sand and water. The beach area is nice and there are picnic tables, grills, and covered areas for you to hang out in as well as keep your stuff. Bring your own food and drinks as they don't sell any onsite, however no alcohol is allowed in the park.
For a $5 entry fee per carload, and $15 in rentals it is a great, cheap, fun time, that you can stay all day (til 9pm) at lounging by the water, paddling around or building sand castles with the kids. Bring snorkels and goggles, as it is salt water.
Well worth the 15 minute drive from Roswell, and well worth driving into from anywhere in west Texas or SE New Mexico. Very kid friendly, and the water isn't deep at all in the huge swimming area that is corded off. GO!!:-)
