This is the smaller camp that's actually inside Sabi Sands. You'll never know if a leopard might saunter in for dinner. The fire pit makes for great post-safari drinks and laughs, along with tales of the bush. Having your own shower is a plus, but be careful should you want to take a hike outside the camp to get to the pool without a guide...there are lions out there!

Room Tip: All are great. We had a middle one.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Tydon Bush Camp in late August 2013 for four nights. We had been on Safari a couple of times before, so we knew how important choosing the right camp, with the right guides was. Tydon bush camp was exactly right for us: all the experience of a tented camp in the middle of the bush but with comfy beds and a perfect hot shower! Debbie was our main guide and her enthusiasm for the wildlife and being a host made our stay an amazing experience. We saw the big five over the four days and had some amazing close up experiences, without at any point feeling we were disturbing the wildlife (I have experienced that elsewhere before, and trust me, if your driver annoys an elephant you'll know!!). The whole setup from first enquiry to the lift back to the airport with Gavin was spot on. Thank you to all the team for making our stay special. Bottom line, don't make the mistake of staying in Kruger, stay here.

My husband and stayed at Tydon Bush Camp for 3 nights-4 days. Tydon Bush Camp is located inside of Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve (part of Kruger national park but you are allowed to drive off-road and get super close to the animals). This tented camp is truly the ultimate private bush experience. With only 3 tents (max of 6 guests), 1-2 guides, and 2 ladies in the kitchen its basically your own private Bush camp. We were there with one other guest and had a blast! The game drives are every morning and evening with plenty of time during the day to relax, read a book, take a nap (nice way to recover from jet lag), etc. Our guide was Debbie and she was awesome! She was super fun and super knowledgable! We saw tons of amazing animals (cheetah, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, etc). The only thing we didn't get to see were the lions- but we heard them growling one morning-so cool!!!
The camp itself is small, but exactly what we were looking for. The tents are fabulous (beds, dressers, nightstand/lamps, fan, air conditioning, tile shower, toilet, etc). It was by far the nicest tent we've ever stayed in! The food was excellent and extremely plentiful- breakfasts included- pancakes, omelets, ham, muffins, fruit salad, toast, etc- lunches included chicken wraps, sandwiches, and dinner was usually meat, salad, 2-3 sides, dessert, and drinks! We were stuffed after every meal:)
Tydon Bush Camp is a truly unique place with wonderful staff! Gavin and his wife, the owners, have thought of everything! From the first email contact I had with them to our drop-off at the airport- everything was perfect. I absolutely recommend staying at the Bush Camp- it was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and the best vacation we have ever had!

I have never submitted a review before (but I felt I had to in this case) since reading the reviews on TripAdvisor helped us make the decision to book our safari with Tydon. We are so glad we did -- all the “excellent” reviews are accurate and well deserved. We booked a 10 day safari and stayed at both the Safari camp and Bush camp. Both camps were great and I’m glad we got to stay at each one. Since we were there so long, we got to meet Gavin and most of the guides/staff and I don’t think they could have done anything more to make sure we were happy and comfortable.* In addition to being knowledgeable about the wildlife and area, they were all friendly and made us feel right at home.

We spent most of our time with Debbie at the smaller Bush camp located in the Sabi Sand private game reserve. Debbie was a lot of fun (and a great guide!) and she made our stay really special. Since the vehicle was open and able to go off road in Sabi Sand, she was able to get us really close to the animals and we had some pretty amazing game drives. The food was great and the tents were very comfortable. Dinner was served around a campfire each night and it was a nice way to end the day. We loved it and will definitely be going back again. It was the highlight of our 3 week trip to South Africa and we still can’t believe all the amazing things we got to see.

*One minor suggestion for your long term guests: Since the food is so good and served frequently, a treadmill placed in an air-conditioned tent would be appreciated!

Room Tip: All the tents at Bush Camp are pretty much the same.

We were picked up in Joburg which I found was a 5+ hour drive but was included in our stay. This was our first stop on a 2 week safari and set a great tone for our adventure. We saw 3 of the big 5 on our way in to the camp and by being on a private reserve were able to go "off road" to track the animals which made sightings a lot easier and we were able to get closer than we might have if we had stayed at Kruger. We stayed at the Bush camp and on the first night we had the whole camp, staff and game drive by ourselves! But even when all the tents were full there were only 6 guests. We could not have gotten more personalized attention. The food was amazing and more than we could possibly eat. Debbie and Tyron were amazing and seemed to know everything about everything. Debbie was an amazing guide and made sure we got to see everything up close even when she had to "chase down a leopard" for us :) She was even very pleasant when I took her from her shower to help with a spider. We had an unexpected cold/rain front come through and everyone made sure we had ponchos and extra close/blankets to stay warm. When we returned back to camp there was plenty of warm food and a turned down bed waiting for us. Gavin (the owner) was our back to Joburg after our wonderful 4 day stay at his camp and while he normally will take you back to Joburg via the Panoramic Route (amazing views), when he found out my boyfriend was a geologist he added a few extra stops to our route just for him. That is the kind of personal attention you will find my everyone at the Tydon Bush Camp. Special thanks to Gavin, Debbie and Tyron. We will definitely visit again if we ever find ourselves with the opportunity.

My wife and I spent 2 nights are Tydon Bush Camp and loved every minute. Although we did not stay at the Safari Camp (just outside the gate of the reserve), being right in the game park was defintely worth it.

From the get-go we were incredibly well looked after by Jared and the team. Our first night, we were the only 2 there which was great. 2 other guests arrived the following day - as there are only 3 tents it means you're not going to be overwhelmed with people, meaning you get incredible service at all times.

Being a small camp means each of the tents is equally good, and they have everything you need in them. They are not like an ultra luxury lodge, but that is good. It was also extremely quiet (but remember, they are tents!) allowing us to fall asleep listening to elephant, hyena and lions in the distance in the night. On both nights we had wildlife come into the camp - a genet on the first night, a hyena on the 2nd. We felt fortunate to see this and safe at all times.

2 long game drives each day - one at dawn and the other in the afternoon/evening were really well done. Jared shared vast knowledge on the flora and fauna, and clearly had a huge passion.
The highlights of the game drives for me? Spending nearly an hour right next to 2 male lions, watching a leopard on a hunt, seeing several hundred buffalo walk past us, and of course the sundowners!

Between drives you have down time in the middle of the day, meaning you can really relax and take it easy. Meals were excellent, particularly sitting outside by the camp fire in the evenings.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to experience a proper safari and I only wish I could have stayed a day or 2 longer. I will almost certainly look to stay again the next time I am in that part of the world.

Tydon offers two camps in the Sabi Sands area. One is right outside the gates of Sabi Private reserve (the Safari Lodge), and this camp (the Bush lodge) which is located right in the heart of Sabi Sands itself!

We were fortunate enough that the main camp was overbooked, so we were upgraded for a night to stay within the park, which meant we had the potential to see animals from the comfort of our camp, which included a leopard that had wandered into the camp one night and a few black mambas! Certainly an incredible experience!

Our days consisted of two game drives: one in the morning and one in the late afternoon/evening. The guides are incredible - a mix of knowledgeable, thoughtful, and hilarious. We felt right at home for our five days with Tydon. We managed to see every animal you could imagine that South Africa provides including lions, leopards, water buffalos, elephants, hippos, rhinos, baboons, giraffes, crocodiles...the list could go on and on. We even saw a leopard kill and take an impala into a tree.

Gavin (the owner), his wife Vangie, and guides Jarred, Liam, and Debbie were INCREDIBLE. They felt like family and hung out with us around the campfire every night. I couldn't recommend Tydon safari more, and would LOVE to go back soon.
