We have just left lion sands after a 5 night stay. It was a totally amazing experience from the room, to the staff and the animal sightings. Our tracker and ranger Rector & Ferdie totally made our holiday! We saw the big 5 in our first two drives and after that we saw so many animals we were delighted. Jubilani, our butler, was fantastic and very patient with us as we tried to learn some of the local language. No two drives or meals were the same. From sundowners watching local dancing by the staff to BBQs in the bush the food and whole experience was amazing. We were very very sorry to leave and cannot recommend it enough. We will be back!

My girlfriend and i have just returned from a great safari with Ferdie (guide) at Lion sands.
Upon arrival we were introduced to Ferdie, he was very welcoming and very approachable. Little did we know that he was also, in my opinion, the best guide anyone could ever ask for. His vast knowledge of the environment, not only the big 5, but everything including plant life and weather, was absolutely mind blowing. He is also a very good photographer and has sent me all the photos that he had taken, which was a nice touch. He has been doing this a very long time, yet his enthusiasm was incredible. He was like a kid in a sweetshop, pointing out all the interesting things and really making us feel part of the environment.... I could go on forever about how great he was, but best of all he is a great guy.
If you are reading this and thinking about doing a safari, then look no further, Ferdie is your man.
GO TEAM FERDIE !!!!

We hoped that staying at Lion Sands would make our honeymoon special.

We had high expectations from the varying reviews and social media we had read before our trip and were delighted that every single one of these expectations were exceeded!

Our whole experience from start to end was amazing. From the point of check-in, the personal touches were evident and continued for the duration of our stay.

Our Ranger (Ale) and Tracker (Noel) were superb with an amazing depth of knowledge. Both were very personable and an absolute credit to Lion Sands. Every drive was packed with a myriad of amazing animals (large and very small!!), making each trip out unique. We were so very lucky to see leopard, white rhino, lions, elephants and giraffe all with their young on so many occasions.

Back at the lodge all the staff were fantastically friendly, efficient and clearly (and quite rightly) very proud of where they worked. The rooms were very luxurious with huge comfortable bed, rain shower, and freestanding double ended bath overlooking the Sabie river. The food was amazing with a good mix of menus to suit all tastes.

We would certainly recommend Lion Sands to anybody wanted to experience the magic of safari whilst staying in beautiful surroundings in 5* accommodation.

If heaven is anything similar to what we had just experienced.
We stayed at Narina, suite number 9. What a magical place!
The rooms are luxurious, the staff are amazing, and the experience simply unbeatable.
Grant (the lodge manager) was at hand to ensure customer satisfaction was at its highest.
Our guide, Johan (Jo) had such a vast knowledge of the bush with a passion that is rare. Our tracker, Chris had the eyes of a hawk finding us the big 5 with ease. It was so good that I was sure something spectacular would be witnessed and behold i was right as we watched a female lion and her cubs do what the do best- maintaining their place at very top of the food chain. Yes, we got to see a kill unfold. unbelievable, like being in the middle of Nat Geo.

Wow!!!! So looking forward to coming back soon.

The Lion Sands River Lodge was very luxurious - large room, great views from the very large room, outdoor shower as well as a beautiful indoor bathroom, good food, good service. The game drives were grea - saw the big five in our first day. As well as many other animals. The land rovers are new, the roads interesting even without game, the ranger and tracker excellent. After a massage under a canopy by the river bed, I sat up to see a herd of elephants walking by. The barbecue dinner on the sands by candle light was special.

My only hesitation in thoroughly recommending it is that it is quite large and we had some large and noisy groups of Americans which changes the atmosphere at dinner. Also, there is an expectation that you will move straight from the afternoon safari to the bar to dinner, where a freshen up and dress would be nice. But these are just the smallest hesitations. It was really very good.

We saw the Big Five on our first safari run, thanks to the eagle eyes of Ferdie and Rector, our guide and tracker. They had their hands full when a grumpy, huge elephant decided we were in his way, but they got us out safe and sound. Getting up at 5:00 am would never usually interest us, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see all that Kruger had on offer. We always had a half-way stop for a "Rector" special treat and Ferdie provided the optimum spot for a full moon memory. Lion Sands provided an excellent dinner on a dried-up river bed, complete with white linen and magic candlelight. There was nothing to criticize except that our 3 days were too short. We could sit on our patio and watch elephants and rhinos cross a few feet away.

We recently stayed at Lion Sands River Lodge in Sabi Sands as part of a tour and this place by far exceeded any other place we stayed at. The food was fantastic, the accommodation first rate and the safaris were amazing. We had a wonderful guide, Landon and tracker Eddy who got us to places and experiences that we will never forget...and yes we saw the "big five". Morning coffee breaks while on safari and the "refreshment" breaks in the late afternoon were awesome.
Three days was not long enough.
Every part of the stay was first rate.

Room Tip: Al rooms were individual cottages and all were good.
