What a treat Savanna Lodge was! Beautiful, spacious rooms, incredible food, and very talented guides were the highlights of our stay. On safari you can see Rhinos, Elephants, Cheetah, Leopards, and Lion prides, among others. We saw the entire "Big Five" on our first day. Really a treat. Wifi really was weak dont count on having good internet access at all.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Savanna. The staff was extremely friendly, the food was fabulous with plenty of variety, the game drives were never dull and the suites were first class. I would highly recommend this lodge for families. We traveled with our 2 daughters (ages 16 & 18) and they had the BEST time and are ready to go back. We saw the "big 5" on several game drives and our guide(Paddy) and tracker(Julius) were fabulous and always had us up close to all the action. We didn't even need to use our long lens on the camera.

What was really impressive was the attention to every little detail. The blanket and hot water bottle for the morning game drive, the hot bath after the evening game drive, the well stocked mini bar, the variety of food (something for everyone), the family atmosphere, the exercise room, and the luxury of the suites.

We did visit other lodges in Sabi Sands during this vacation, but Savanna was the best! Our only complaint is that we had to leave but we will be back!

From the moment we arrived late at night with the perfect greeting, to a few tears from all involved as we drove away at the end of our stay, Savanna provided the perfect end to our African safari experience and exceeded all expectations.

I was a little worried on the 2hr drive from the airport that we never really seemed to get away from civilisation and even more concerned when we went through the 3 meter fences that run along one side of Sabi-Sands reserve separating the local villages from the reserve. After coming from the complete wilderness of Botswana, we were starting to think that this was going to be the Jurassic Park version of safari which wasn't what we were after. By the end of the 4 days, we couldn't have been any happier with the staff, accommodation, food and especially the wild life. The proximity to civilisation drifted away and if anything, the occasional sighting of the local village in the distance just served to remind us how lucky we were to be enjoying the experience at Savanna.

Natasha greeted us late in the evening after a big day of travel from our stay in Botswana. Instead of throwing us into dinner which was just about to start for all other guests, they calmly welcomed us, walked us to our amazing room where they had set up a lovely dinner for the two of us on our veranda and let us know that we could call the chef when we were ready for dinner. Mind reader. Romeo, our butler for the length of our stay, provided great service even battling through a foot injury (we hope it's all better now Romeo !!).

We were paired with Neil (our Ranger) and Cedric (our tracker) for the four days. Both were lovely guys who do an amazing job. The wild life sightings over the course of our stay were unmatched in terms of frequency and quality of viewing, especially if its the big cats you want to see. There was usually only one or two vehicles at the most around a sighting with the various lodges in the area managing the transitions well so it never felt crowded. There were too many amazing sightings to list but a few of the highlights were six separate leopards in one day including a mother with two six week old cubs, four male lions feasting on a buffalo, mating leopards, brother and sister cheetah going for a run and a mother and juvenile rhino calmly grazing beside the vehicle. Neil did a great job positioning the car for the best photo angles and if you get a chance, ask to have a look at his own photo collection....amazing and award winning !!

The food was spectacular with plenty to chose from and a different setting for dinner each of the four nights we were there (as well as entertainment on some nights). Try not to read all the reviews which give away these little surprises, we weren't expecting any of them which made them all the more enjoyable. Neil and some of the staff were happy to stay up for a drink with us after dinner (thanks for humoring the Australians!!) which was great because most other guests were a little older than us and ready for bed at a more reasonable hour. Ask Neil to try a "Springbok" if you feel like kicking on a bit in the evenings....

We didn't go on the tour of the village or the orphanage but were told by those who did that it was a worthwhile experience. It's great that Savanna supports the local community and we did buy some of the little gifts which help fund the orphanage. We were lucky to be grouped with a few other lovely guests for our drives and meals (Geoff & Cherie from Seattle and Ronnie & Steve from LA as well as Claudia, our leopard loving friend on our last day).

The memories and praise could go on and on but it's best you just experience it for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed, the only disappointment for us was having to leave.

One suggestion, if you're lucky enough to be able to visit multiple locations on your safari, we'd suggest you make this the last stop. The wild life sightings are so frequent and yet special that they would set expectation levels way too high for other areas (we went to Botswana first). We loved all our stops in Botswana and the wild life was great, but if we'd been to Savanna first we would have been expecting lions around every corner......not realistic in most locations, Sabi-Sands and Savanna are special.

Thanks to the team at Savanna, we hope to be back again one day.

Everything about our experience at Savanna surpassed our expectations. The staff was absolutely lovely and they went out of their way to make sure our honeymoon was amazing (from the surprise private dinner on our deck to the petal bath with champagne). The food was delicious and there was a lot of variety of dishes at every meal (the chefs do an incredible job at catering to a variety of preferences). Our room was unbelievably amazing and it was such a treat to come home to a warm bath after every nightly game drive. The trackers and guides were also top notch (thank you Julius and Cedric) and we saw the Big Five on multiple game drives, among many other amazing things. We especially enjoyed the stops for coffee and drinks mid-drive and the cocktail party in the middle of the savanna for whole Lodge. There is certainly something special about Savanna – the people, the setting, the location, the food, the social atmosphere, the beauty. It was such a special end to our honeymoon and we look forward to returning to Savanna.

I've been home over a week and posted reviews of our other visits but this one I've struggled with. This place gets off the charts ratings. There are some wonderful people at this Reserve and I believe we must have caught them off their game. My first disappointment was how far it was from the airport--I'll take the blame for not getting an accurate estimate. But when we arrived late--the lights were on but nobody was home!?! We stood around for 10 minutes until a man who identified himself as the F&B Director appeared and nervously attempted a welcome with no apology or explanation. Have a glass of champagne and don't worry. Then came our romantic anniversary dinner outside of our "tent". Perfect setting, less than perfect service from our waiter. Safari #1 was promising--lots to see in sightings but few animals. 1 leopard here 1 elephant there--3 sleeping lions. Safari #2 was a repeat of locations and 45 minutes sitting next to the intestines of a dead porcupine who we saw dispatched in # 1. Charming group dinner and choir of orphans but there was something almost too staged and slick. Lovely people--the occasion just got off on a wrong foot and never recovered. And trying for another safari the next morning wouldn't work because of the drive time to our next stop. Didn't see the big 5 as advertised nor did we get the reality of the hype provided on their website vs. the costs. Like I said, perhaps we just had that one visit in a million where things just go wrong.
