“FABULOUS from Arrival to departure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2014

I expected to go to this reserve to view wild animals in their natural habitat, but I was not prepared for the incredible diversity and beauty of what awaited us.
Upon minutes of arrival we were treated to the spectacular view from the lodge's deck where the lake beyond was home to hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffalo.
Our daily outings were filled with excitement as we came within feet of Lyons, Leopards, Elephants, Rhinos and much more.
Because there were two of us birders in the group, our amazing tracker Halli, made it a point to start our days looking for birds . He also escorted us on foot on a few outings where we were able to immerse ourselves in the natural surrounding and observe close to 100 species of birds in one week!
The staff is top notch, and Leo and Claudia, the lodge managers were attentive to our every need.
Our suite was both luxurious and very comfortable, and many afternoons were spent observing wild animals from our private pool and deck. What a trip!
Thank you Chitwa Chitwa!

The reserve adjoins Kruger National Park, and animals can move freely between the park and the reserve. In contrast to Kruger, vehicles in the private reserves can go off road, and the animals are more habituated to them. Your vehicle will literally go within three feet of lions, who will simply ignore you. What you get to see is a a matter of luck. But we saw all of the Big 5 on our first drive, and a lot else besides. You would be unlucky not to see a wide variety of animals in a three day stay. Our guide, Surprise Mathebula, was excellent. He radiated an easy charm and an infectious enthusiasm, showed appropriate concern for our safety, and worked assiduously to make sure we saw a wide variety of wildlife. The lodge is unbelievably opulent. We had a suite with dining and living areas, a private deck overlooking a lake with hippos, and a private pool. Various types of deer would wander right up to the edge of the deck. The food was among the best we ate anywhere on our trip, and the service was both professional and personal. The lodge provides an opportunity to make donations to a foundation that supports the very poor community in which many of the staff live.

We arrived at Chitwa on boxing day and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were treated like royalty. Claudia and Leon are fantastic managers and it shows through all of the staff, they are all amazing. It was my daughters birthday that day and they gave her a cake, what a lovely touch
We were in Chitwa house and what can I say? it was absolutely stunning. We had Halli and Moses as our guide and tracker and both of these guys are so knowledgable about the wildlife we learnt so much, as the saying goes "every day is a school day"

Our chef was July and our butler was Kensanne, both were fantastic and Dhino in the bar was fantastic as well. My husband and son are both coeliac and July excelled when it came to making them gluten free food. I can't praise this place enough, Were now home and its cold and wet but our memories of Chitwa will never fade,

Thanks to the 'welcoming committee', headed by the omni-present Leon and Claudia, we felt at home from the very first moment. We got an exceptional, professional introduction from Claudia (full marks for this session). The suite was breathtaking ... very spacious, beautiful design and lots or comfort.
The kitchen staff makes sure to make your stay even more memorable : excellent food and services from morning till evening - coffee breaks with delicious muffins during the game drives, a complete breakfast upon return to the lodge, excellent dishes during lunch, lots of cakes and sweets during high tea and unforgettable moments during sundowner and dinner ...
Just one remark, lunch should be avanced by at least one hour to make sure that people can enjoy high tea.
Harley, our ranger, did a fantastic job : he is very client-oriented and adrenaline is pumping when something special is about to happen in the bush. We were a bit less positive about the tracker and management showed some problems to accept our critique.
In Chitwa Chitwa you feel pampered from the moment you arrive until the moment you have to leave. We got an upgrade to the Chitwa House, a special dinner in-house to celebrate a special occasion and a special reception party.
We left with lots of beautiful memories ... If you would decide to go to Chitwa Chitwa, prepare to be amazed !

Thank you Chitwa for starting our honeymoon off with such a high standard! Our 2 night stay was hardly long enough but it got us used to a luxury that was hard to find anywhere else! Our little honeymoon 'extras' were imaginative and very much appreciated and staying in Room 1 was like living in our own little hotel, so much space and wonderfully unique furniture.

In terms of animal sightings, by the time we had arrived at the lodge on our airport transfer, we had already seen three of the 'big 5'. the rest, and so much more, were taken care of in the remaining drives we had. we had wonderful experiences that we have bored our friends with telling safari stories..... they are just jealous!

We sang Chitwa's praises at every other stop on our honeymoon and will continue to do so to friends and family.... hopefully some day we will be back.

Thank you Leon, Claudia and the rest of the Chitwa team for being the perfect embodiment of what hospitality should be.

After 26 years of visiting game lodges, we have found the ultimate in Chitwa Chitwa. From the luxurious accommodation to the service which was outstanding and to the game viewing which exceeded all expectations, we could not fault anything! The staff went out of their way to make it the most memorable experience of our lives. We even drove away from sitings of leopard to stumble on to wild-dog! By far the the best lodge we have ever stayed at.

This was by far our best game lodge and wildlife experience. Our ranger Surprise and tracker Ralph were excellent, very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and together we found everything that we wanted to see, some multiple times. We are keen birders and they were very patient showing us as many bird species as possible. The lodge is beautiful, the interior design just awesome(all the rooms are decorated differently). Claudia and Leon(general managers)are 2 amazing people and made us feel welcome from the first minute.Team Chitwa, thank you,you met all our expectations and surely, you will see us again.
