“Private Luxury”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

By far the largest and most luxurious lodging of our 3+ weeks in Africa and a wonderful way to end our trip. Service was reserved, but exemplary--in keeping with the air of understated elegance. Privacy was assured for all 3 freestanding suites (4th is used only if you book sole-use of the facility). Spacious LR, BR, and ensuite Bath/Shower all open onto deck with pool overlooking the river. Dining locations varied each of our 4 nights and cuisine was imaginative, delicious and abundant. The main lodge was stunning.

Because the unfenced reserve is small and open to Kruger, you never know what wildlife will roam through. Each drive (2/day) had at least one highlight (leopards, ellies, a rare cheetah kill, lions, gorgeous birds, etc) but there was less variety in species and the queue system with neighboring reserves felt a little "public" compared to our other venues. Our guide was knowledgeable enough but relied more on 2-way radio than tracking to locate sightings. There was less off-roading-- heavy rains the month before may have been a factor. The only disappointment was the use of a too-worn, uncomfortable "back up" vehicle during our stay...not up to the 5 star level of everything else!

Room Tip: All are spectacular.

My family and I will be talking about this holiday for years to come! Everything about it was perfect. Mack (our guide) and Colbert (our ranger) were extremely knowledgable, witty, engaging, and gracious. They worked hard to give us different experiences on the safari and were unafraid to wade into the brush to get us closer to certain animals, including giraffes and lions. Of course, they also had our safety and respect the animals as their top priorities. Our butler Martha was ever ready to meet our needs and went above and beyond in providing sincere hospitality and outstanding care for us. She noticed every detail, and by the second day knew our preferences and quirks. The lodges are beautifully designed and maintained and I have never felt so relaxed as I did there. Nicola, the manager, was always friendly and eager to arrange any extra service we desired, such as an in-room massage. Oh, and the food--we are still dreaming about all the food I ate and how amazing it tasted. Again, I just can't say enough about the team at Leadwood Lodge. They made us feel like family. Those reviewers who complained about getting twice-daily housekeeping service instead of thrice, I can only wonder if they'd ever be satisfied for Martha, always made sure everything in our room was in top-top shape. Our refrigerator was always full, our beds turned down, our bath and shower ready for relaxation, and our laundry washed and returned the same day. Leadwood Lodge is the best place on earth and worth every dollar (or rand).

Room Tip: All the rooms have fantastic views!

Another great lodge in the Sabie Sands, although we were only here for a night it was obvious that it is a well run camp. The service was outstanding and nothing was too much for any of the staff. The room we were allocated had it's own dunking pool and separate sitting room/entrance area, the bedroom and ensuite bathroom was very spacious. Game drives were a pleasure to be on and our ranger was seasoned professional with a tracker who knew his stuff, they certainly delivered on the game drives and saw the big five and much more. The many bird species were also thriving.
Food was very well presented and very tasty, never a chance of getting even remotely hungry.
The camp which is in very good condition has been built on the bank on a narrow part of the river where there are an abundance of beautiful trees around the camp. The view from our room we found a little constrained as we prefer a feeling of space, but that's just personal.
A wonderful experience.

We felt like family from the start!

Our stay could not have been more spectacular. Every need was taken care of thanks the team at Leadwood Lodge, lead by manager Nicla.

A special thanks to our butler Martha and her team-Faculty and housekeeper Grace.

Our bellies were filled with scrumptious and nutritious food, lovingly prepared by our chefs Sina and Amos.

Our senses were fired by our tracker Colbert and ranger Mac. Each and every safari outing was fruitful and exciting, the sunset drinks in the wild were a lovely touch to our experience. We so enjoyed the sense of humour, knowledge and skill that Mac and Colbert shared with us. They are a great team!

We could not have wished for a better experience and feel all warm and fuzzy inside when we look back on the time we spent at Leadwood.

We look forward to returning one day soon!!

This is a fairly pointless review, since I'm sure I will only be saying what many before have done - this lodge is second to none, and the staff went out of their way to ensure our trip was excellent.

Martha, our butler looked after us extremely well and the surprise she organised for our honeymoon was amazing (wont go into detail in case it spoils it for others). Andrew our driver was not only the most incredible game spotter I have ever come across with sight like nothing I have ever seen before, he was also extremely knowledgable and also great value when it came to the African dance off one evening!! Patricia was also hugely welcoming to us and added to our great stay.

The food is unreal, I didn't have to eat for 2 days after I left...with wake up flapjacks, then mid-drive snack, breakfast, lunch, afternoon cake, mid-drive snack again, dinner...I think I put on about 10kg...and the food was great quality.

I could probably go on for a while but I won't and just say that in terms of quality game viewing, I saw all the big 5 plus cheetah and feeding lions within the first drive! And was then greeted home by baboons drinking from my pool....

Room Tip: There is only 3 so they are all pretty good!

My wife, son (age 23) and I have just returned from the andBeyond Leadwood Lodge in Sabi Sands. I don't know what the staff could have done to make our stay more perfect! It starts with the greeting committee each time you return to the lodge from the game drives, the attention to detail in the beautiful rooms, the smiling and courteous staff, and the plentiful food and drink. Special mention to a few: Mac, our Ranger, could not have been more engaging, knowledgable, funny and entertaining. He loves his job and his "office", and it shows. Colbert, our tracker, was great. Martha, the "butler", was warm, and made us feel like family. The chefs Sonnyboy and Seena, Chris, and the rest of the staff, well managed by Ncola, were just great!
As for the game drives, we saw amazing sights, leaving nothing to the imagination. Just a great place for a safari.

We have just returned from this amazing lodge, it was our second visit and we have already planned a third. We have been to many lodges and this one is in our top 5. It's a very special place and the staff are amazing, the food delicious, the sightings awesome and the rooms are huge with your own plunge pool.
No young children here which makes it even better, no under 15 I think it is and this adds to the charm, too many times noisy children have broken the peaceful bush silence.
We will return here many times and Mac is an amazing ranger who is very knowledgable and his tracker Corbet is fantastic.
Camp manager also very friendly
It's a beautiful lodge in a beautiful spot
There are only 4 rooms but they only book out the 4 if you take the whole lodge to yourself otherwise they only book out 3 rooms which is awesome as only 6 people in camp.

Room Tip: They all stunning
