We spent 2 wonderful nights at the Whispering Pines. The room was very clean, the bed real comfortable, the shower was hot with great pressure . We couldn't have been happier. Some of the previous reviews were not fair, as far as we we're concerned. If your looking for a Four Seasons, then no you aren't going to get that. But if you like a rustic, fun, camping type experience with out the tent, come here. We will surely be back.

Next week we will begin our third visit to Ruidoso in as many years..also our third stay at Whispering Pine. We have ALWAYS been treated cordially (as though we were family), with respect and kindness, and with very reasonable rates. Our cabin has always been clean and comfortable, the beds quite "sleepable", and the cabin warm and cozy. We also appreciate the supplied coffee, condiments, and "living supplies"! My only complaint is that it's not a little closer to Florida!

We stayed in one of the larger cabins. I was afraid after reading some of the reviews, but once we got there it was ok. Marilyn was very friendly and helpful. We actually had a problem with one of the bathrooms and they were quick to help us with our problem. The look of the cabin seemed clean until you starting looking in the cabinets. Most of the dishes had some type of dried food on them and even the glasses had dried lipstick on them from the previous guest. They leave it up to the guest to leave the kitchen clean so it probably gets ignored while they are cleaning the rest of the cabin. I didn't end up using much of anything in the kitchen because of this. Also if you are looking for a fully stocked kitchen this is not it. There were very few bowls and other utensils and all the pans were too old to cook in. The appliances are very old and they show with the grease that has piled on them. There were plenty of towels for all of us. The beds are also on the older side. They squeek every time you move an inch. We did enjoy our stay here. We were a large group and were able to accomodate everyone nicely. The location was nice too. So like I said in the title if you are expecting a 4 star hotel it is not. A cabin is rustic and you have to adjust to the accomodations.

This is the type of feeddback we like to get from guests, although before check out would be prefered so we can address the issues and correct them immediately. We are a AAA approved, moderately priced cabin operation. This means that although there is no daily maid service we are diligent in cleanliness and service. It also means that our guests are on an honor system to leave dishes and pans clean. ( I would ad here that as we travel personally we do not use any glasses or dishes without pre washing them, you just never know ) Most of our cabins have brand new appliances including dishwashers, but still these things crop up. A cabin offers a host of advantages not the least of which is economy. A family of twelve can stay with us for the same price as four people in a hotel. They can gather, cook, grill, enjoy a fire, party, play games, watch deer and bears and soak in the wonders of the forest from their spaceous decks. Cabins are trully a home away from home. The trade off is to keep this price realistic ($256/night for 12 avg. equals $22/night per person) certain things are to be expected. Although we deep clean twice a year it only takes one bad guest to put poorly cleaned dishes away to make the cabin appear unclean. We cannot afford to deep clean after every checkout without raising the price to $500/night for 12 or $42 / person ( we have done the math ). We do have honeymoon cabins and small family cabins that are very easy to maintain to a four star standard, but they are not as economical as the big ones. Older appliances acculmulate stains that are not cleanable and all of our sheets and towels are inspected every cleaning, although they may be aged they are sanitary and quite suitable. Some folks just expect more than any large cabin is capable of providing and thats OK, live and learn. In addition, Christmas time is insane in our industry here in the Mountains with 100% occupancy for two weeks straight and quick turn arounds the result can be oversights for which we appologize. We, as most all of the Lodgers in Ruidoso do everything we can to make a vacatiion here spectacular, but sometimes thats just not enough. We do continue to strive for something close to perfection and thank the guest for the feedback.

Thank You

Our cabin came with lots of drafts, dirty dishes, poor heating and no security. We tried four times to contact the office but never found anyone present until check out time. My Mohter and sister both got very sick after the first night and had to stay with a family member to avoid another miserable night.
When check out time came the wonan(Marilyn) did not want to hear any compalints. She denied that she was not in the office during our stay then said we should have called the number on the front door (no such thing), the cabin did not have a phone and our wireless network did not work in the middle of the woods.
The woman got very defensive when we told her how unahppy we were with everything about our stay. She stood up from her chair to yell one foot from our face. She continually insulted my families intellegence and made my sister cry. She then threatened to call the police when we told her she was a scam artist. Our cabin was not more than 300sq ft , has poorly insulated windows, and one small heater in the center. We paid over three hundred dollars for our stay . We arrive home with sore throats, ear infections, severe congestion, hurt feelings and three hundred dollars stolen from us. I do not recommend this buisness to any one for any reason. Ruidoso is a great community and The Whispering Pine Cabins' employee Marylin puts it to shame. Please send your buisness elsewhere.

The first thing I would admit is that all businesses encounter problems from time to time. When one does the volume that we do with our 25 cabins and 60% annual occupancy the limited number of complaints that we do get is excellent. This particular complaint 9cabins from hell) however, is completely unfounded and was made by one of those customers that you cannot make happy. We responded to this individual through our local Chamber of Commerce where we provided proof that each of their claims were false. The real issue was that they booked two cabins ONLINE and found them to be about 1/2 a mile apart. Apparently too far for them to walk. Because we were booked solid that weekend we had no where else to place them. In the Chamber complaint they said Marilyn put them in those two cabins intentionally, which is obviously false as they booked ONLINE. This review was done with malace and is anything but factual and indeed has developed a whole new lifes worth of issues since they complained originally. Our experience tells us that they were looking for a "customer is always right cash back result". Our policy is to do everything we can to make a problem right and we do so with immediacy and concern. However, we do not tolerate abuse of staff and the use of foul language from guests when addressing any issue. That is what we got from this group the moment they came to check out, which was just before they were told to leave. They did not complain during their stay and their claim that we could not be contacted is an outright falsehood. When they checked in we told them that we would be out for that evening for a Christmas party so if they wanted to rent a movie or get additional information they should do so while they were there. That was the only time the office was closed early during the entire weekend. One last thing, the rest of their party was having such a good time that they did a late checkout with us. Thank you for allowing us to respond. This is a great forum, but it is obviously being abused here. I would add that the following review (bottom of the barrel) was also posted by this same group to do inflict double damage to us.

Sincerely

Chuck and Marilyn Duncan

Allow me to sum up my experience with simple phrasing.

Rude employees who not only insult the guests, but pass the blame on to them for the bad experience they got.

FREEZING cold cabins! The whole place was like a refrigerator. The bathroom was as cold as the outside. Two of my fellow guests got sick.

FILTH! Everything in this place was disgusting; from the grill outside right down to the dishes in the "kitchen," which was the size of a small closet by the way.

We would have been better off in tents.

As per the previous response to "cabins from hell" this response is to clarify that this is a duplicate posting designed to impart further and unfair damage to our Lodge. Every complaint made here is false and we have proven to the local Chamber of Commerce that this is an attempt to get a refund based on untrue claims. We host over 9000 guests per year and have a very small amount of complaints, most of which, we are able to effectively handle quickly and fairly. This posting was one where there was no resolution possible as it was based completely on fabrication and questionable motives.

Thank you

As a child, the highlight of my summers was visiting Ruidoso and staying at the Whispering Pines. I had so many fond memories of wandering the woods around our cabin and walking down to the river. It's not the same today.

Our cabin was clean, stocked with firewood, and had a very nice, large washer and dryer. The living room was beautifully furnished. However, the ceiling in the bedroom on the back of the house was so low that my barely 5'10" spouse kept bumping his head on it. The bathroom connected to it had only a tub, no shower. The bed on the sunporch was good for a small child, but would have been uncomfortable for an adult. We had some issues with the space heater when we arrived, unaware that it had two pilot lights instead of one. It was a couple of hours before we heard back from the owners when we called to report the problem.
Work had been done to restore the cabin, but it definately had the home handman look - boards that didn't quite cover all the floor, patches between the tiles, and faucets with the internal plumbing sticking out of the wall.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Whispering Pines and once again, it was a pure pleasure. The kitchen was well stocked, along with plenty of wood for the fireplace. The whole cabin was very clean. My standards are high, being that I have a one year old crawling around. I couldn't have been any more pleased. The cabin was extremely cozy and very well decorated. There is no doubt that I will be staying there again.
