“Excellent experience all round”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2013

Sausage Tree is a thoroughly well-run and professional lodge in the Balule. The entire experience my wife and I had was top class all the way from the pickup to the send-off and everything in between.

With two game drives a day - and the sightings are plentiful - we were lucky enough to spend well over two hours over our stay with Limpy the lionness and her two cubs, as well as sight elephant, rhino, buffalo and plenty of giraffe. Morning/evening tea by the river is something special as well.

Their reserve is open to Kruger so animals can travel freely through. They can also arrange a day trip into Kruger from the lodge and other trips e.g. Panorama route. They even arranged a helicopter ride for us (at your own cost) which was spectacular.

Richard, our host, gave us a very personal welcome and was thoughtfully involved throughout our stay, making sure all our needs were taken care of. Liam, our guide, is one enthusiastic young man and a great story teller. Themba, our tracker, was amazing at spotting everything from elephants to tortoises and even owls at night! Orlando, the chef - you have to taste the food to know what I mean but it was top notch - not out of place at a top restaurant anywhere in the world.

The rate we paid included accommodation, all meals (except drinks from the bar, which are not expensive in any case) and two game drives a day (morning and evening). Very worth the price. There were a number of repeat visitors, so that tells you alot.

My wife and I chose to stay at Sausage Tree on recommendations from friends - after staying there we're happy to recommend them to anyone who travels to Kruger!

My friend and I visited ST for 3 nights and were sad to leave wishing we had booked for longer. Everything was wonderful and we couldn't have asked for a better safari experience. The owner and staff are amazing! Liam and Themba were especially wonderful- knowledgeable (beyond words), passionate, adventurous, friendly, and so so sweet! They got us close to the animals so we were able to take great pictures.
All the meals were great and the tents we slept in simple yet cute. We loved the hammock on the porch for afternoon naps, huge bathroom, and outdoor shower. We highly recommend Sausage Tree!!

Our family of three spent four amazing nights at Sausage Tree and loved every minute of it. James, Sonja and their staff are most welcoming--we felt as though we were staying with friends. Our child has a severe allergy to nuts, and the staff were extremely accommodating to his needs. James is a very knowledgeable guide and we learned so much from him. The wildlife viewing was fantastic. We were lucky enough to see some very curious lion cubs up close. The tents are gorgeous and very comfortable, and the food is 5-star! Orlando is a gifted chef. We look forward to coming back in the very near future. We have traveled extensively and this was probably our best family vacation.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Sausage Tree camp: The atmosphere was very personal and cosy, everything was nice and clean with great food, people were very friendly (and the safari guide very competent) and all this at a reasonable price. Highly recommended!

I thoroughly enjoyed my 3-night stay in November 2013 with some friends. Everything at Sausage Tree Camp was truly first rate. It's a great taste of the adventure of tent camping in the African bush, with added comforts and outstanding service and hospitality.

Dining (including some traditional SA favorites) was top notch and definitely a highlight. Chef Orlando is simply outstanding.

These guys know the bush. We spotted some exciting game and also learned a lot about the important subtleties of the veld that are often unappreciated.

If it's your first time in the Kruger Park area, plan an extra day to explore the Panorama Route. This
is some of the most beautiful country you will find anywhere.

Sausage Tree Camp is great for couples, families, groups, or lone adventurers. Highly recommended.

Where do I even begin??? My friend and I were in South Africa and decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine... Going on safari. I cannot say enough about Sausage Tree and the staff. Sonja and James welcomed us like long lost family and Liam made our time there amazing... So full of information and a love for what he does. The safari tents were far beyond my expectations and the outdoor shower was amazing. We did two safaris each day and saw the big five!!! We encountered many different groups of other people during our stay there (though we were never more than 8 guests total which made it so personal!) and i can honestly say everyone was having as great of a time as we were. The food is amazing.. Best i have eaten in a long long time. Five star restaurant quality... The cook orlando is a talented man catering to my vegetarian needs as much as the meat eaters around me. At the end of our four night stay we were so sad to go... We felt like we were leaving family and friends. I am so thankful for the incredible safari experience provided at sausage tree and would make this place a must do for anyone going to south africa!!!
