Wow, what an incredible experience. We stayed here for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon and it lived up to every expectation we had. The rooms are exquisite (we stayed in both the tents and the chalets and I definitely recommend spending the extra cash for the chalets as they are fantastic). The staff can't do enough for you and the game drives are awesome. We saw 4 out of the big 5 and had an incredible experience witnessing the interaction between a family of lions and some rhino's. AWESOME! I also recommend the day spa - the treatments a regreat but the location is right on a watering hole and you can watch the animals come to drink as you are having a massage. Simply stunning. A perfect venue. I couldn't have asked for a better start to our honeymoon.

Oh how wonderful was this!! We stayed 3 nights in one of the chalets (save up for this vs tents). The room was amazing - huge and stunning!!!! Own pool for those lazy moments between game drives. Our ranger (Calvin) made this an experience that we will always remember. We were lucky to see the big 5 all with little ones. The drives were so relaxing and energizing. Highly recommend this venue. Service great and personal. Only small(very small) criticism is the food - it was really good but we expected a more refined menu for such high end venue!! All I can say is book and njoy!!

After four days at Elephant Plains in Sabi Sand, which we absolutely adored, we were worried that a stay anywhere else could only be a let-down. How wrong can you be?
From the pictures on the website, it was clear that the design of Kapama Karula was unlike any other “camp” you might see and I was worried that it might lack atmosphere. But the stunning, blonde wood décor has been cleverly created with an African twist and is inviting from the moment you arrive.

The theme is carried throughout the camp, and the new suites – no less than 115 square meters in size – are designed with the same style and panache as the public areas. The suites each have individual decks and swimming pools overlooking the river below, which are completely private.

No detail has been overlooked, with use of the finest quality sanitary ware and fittings, and the same attention to detail is evident in the dining room, where the tableware is stunning.

If the camp itself was impressive, the game drives – the most important element of the trip – were equally amazing. We spent hours tracking and watching a leopard and her two cubs as they played and explored within one kilometre of the camp. We travelled to the other side of the large reserve to see lions hunting and were lucky enough to witness a kill – a very sanitised one, thank goodness, in which the poor victim was dispatched quickly and almost bloodlessly. We even saw a "pink" elephant - a young elephant born lacking the normal pigment in its skin, a bit like an albino.

Our guide, Mike, and tracker, Vuzi, made each and every drive during our three-day stay different and fascinating.

The spa is a 15-minute drive away, but well worth the trip (one of the ranges will take you there). It is simply gorgeous and the treatment I had was first-class.

There is plenty of food on offer, from early morning tea/coffee and nibbles to a good breakfast and lunch, high tea and, finally, dinner. Generally it is of good quality but there were a couple of meals that we found disappointing, most notably the barbecue evening round the boma.

Still, we came away with wonderful memories of our stay at Karula, which will remain with use for a very long time to come.

(Forgot to mention - there's wifi throughout the camp)

Our three days at Kapama Karula was a magical experience for all of us. As a family party of six with an age range of 16 - 62 (!), we all had different expectations and we all left Kapama Karula with wonderful memories and great reluctance - I only wish we could have stayed longer!. Our tents were superbly comfortable, the food was delicious and all the staff could not have been more charming and helpful. We would particularly recommend the ranger Paul and his tracker Alfred, who between them, managed to make sure we saw everything and Paul went out of his way to make our safari experience truly memorable. For a luxurious but authentic African safari, you could not do any better than choose Kapama Karula.

Celebrating my husband's 80th birthday, we fulfilled the #1 on his "bucket list". We could not believe our eyes when we were taken to our Chalet, what absolute luxury. Our ranger Doug and tracker Colin fulfilled every "Animal Planet" expectation we had. The food, what can we say, it was beyond excellent. Florence was a gem, as well as all the other staff. The only regret we have is that we did not do this a few years ago, so we could do it again.

We stayed for three nights in a chalet at Kapama Karula and could not believe the size of the room we walked into. The bed,the bathroom, indoor & outdoor showers, private deck, lap-pool, gas fireplace, the decor and attention to detail were breathtaking. My partner works for an airline and is very well travelled and proclaimed it to be the best room she has stayed in anywhere in the world. We had originally booked our stay in the luxury tents but after squeezing our budget a little further we upgraded to the chalet. This proved to be a great decision and one we would recommend to anyone booking a stay at Kapama. We could have easily spent the entire time in the chalet but with two game drives daily and simply stunning food on offer the value for money here is exceptional. Thanks to Mike & Voosi for going out of your way to make the game viewing so rewarding and educational. A trip to the main lodge for the spa facilities is also highly recommended. BLISS ! We will return.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River is one of Kapama's most secluded and prestigious safari camps named Karula. Karula means "place of peace" in the native tongue, and soon after your arrival you will know exactly why this name is just so perfect for this magnificent luxury safari camp. Peace is but one of the many emotions that will encompass your soul as you look at the serene waterway meandering gently past your doorstep and the age old saying "water is life" will begin to have a whole new meaning for you. The open plan lounge and bar area, with floor to ceiling glass doors illustrates the perfect balance with elegant light colors. This modern building with its whitewashed wooden structure, skylights and open air bar, creates a cozy feel to the lounge and makes it a day time favorite to enjoy a drink or just sit back and enjoy the sights Karula has to offer. The contemporary yet African feel to the camp will satisfy and exceed the expectations of even the most discerning connoisseurs. The outside wooden deck overlooking the Klaserie river gives you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and magnificent vistas the camp has to offer. Karula Library & Media Room boasts some of the best audio visual equipment but doubles as a library where you can read a good book in a breathtaking environment, or just take in nature's views through the massive sliding windows. Keep in touch with family and loved ones at one of the two dedicated guest internet stations with WiFi on tap and free of charge. A private, romantic fireplace dinner can also be arranged with the camp personnel, and in a modern romantic setting like this, the answer can only be "Yes". Kapama Karula has twelve superior suites, each exquisitely decorated and with generous private space. Two of the superior suites are purpose-built for families. Each suite also has a private outside deck and a large swimming pool, which is heated in the chillier months for year-round swimming. The luxury Karula spa offers a range of health and beauty treatments in four deluxe treatment rooms. For a body workout, the fitness centre is equipped with state-of-the-art cardio and weight-lifting equipment, or you can run or walk on the treadmill or cycle on the Wattbike. After working up a sweat, visit the steam room, or relax in the pool. You can also browse through the curio shop for those special gifts to take home. Then head out on an exciting game drive. ... more   less
