It was a good choice. The entrance to Kruger Park is about a 30 minutes drive but we saw elephants, giraffes and monkeys on the sand road when we just entered in the park. The accommodation was comfortable, very clean and front desk staff was pleasant all the time, although there was no wi-fi in the hotel and the small pool. We could hear lions roaring every night from the room, that was a freaky amazing experience. Our guide and tracker were the best and we experienced the most amazing up close encounters with the Big Five. We saw a baby elephant right after it was born. Definitely, we would return tomorrow if we could.

We had a brillant two game drives and managed to see the big five - a first for me! The experience of having a sundowner in the bush was wonderfull and our guide showed us a number of different antelope tracks. On our way back to camp, he even pointed out some of the stars i.e scorpio and the milky way. The dinner in the river bed was enhanced by the lanterns on the table and a true out of africa experience. The chef, Rasmus, can speak a number of languages - even a bit of Mandarin! My room was spacious and comfortable - opening up the outside door you felt as if you were in the middle of the bush as the sounds of the night could easily be heard. The staff were always friendly and attentive - even the students doing their practicals there were well trained. it was a truly unique experience to visit.

We , as a family had a wonderful safari experience at Kapama. We had our own driver and tracker , Clement and Ringo for 2 days. There was no one else in the 4x4 except us for 4 exceptional game drives. We saw a lion chase a bull before the other lions came to share the prized catch and it happened right next to our vehicle. On another game drive, we were surrounded by a group of elephants as close as touching distance. Apart from the Big 5, we were able to see a bush baby and a civet cat , all rare findings at night. Then , at one night, a lion was heading straight towards me before Ringo made some noise to chase it away. The sundowner was special as to celebrate what we manage to see on our safaris and the sunset on those particular days was spectacular. Dinner at the Boma was exceptionally delicious and some of the trackers and drivers entertained us with some live African music. I will give this place a 10 out of 10.

My wife and I stayed at the Kapama River Lodge for 2 nights during our SA trip. I am very glad we chose this property because it was luxury combined with the experience of a safari. The rooms were big, spacious and very well maintained by the housekeeping staff. The Rangers and Trackers were very well informed leading to 4 wonderful safaris. We managed to see the Big 4 (No Leopard Sadly) and a host of other animals.
The Kapama Reserve is very close to the Hoedspruit Airport and makes for a very small trip to the property which is a blessing. There was a mix up with our reservation and that led to a few complications with having different rangers and trackers for the 2 days and especially with food as we are vegetarians and had requested for special veg meals when we booked 2 months in advance. But all of that was managed well in the end and we had a great experience.

A wonderful package - Great Rooms, Good Food, and wonderful safaris. Very hospitable people, on the whole. Programs were well d and well timed. We got to see all of The Big Five. Thanks to Angie, she was a marvelous driver and guide during the safari. Very knowledgeable and explained a lot during each of the four safaris we went with her.

What a wonderful place ! Beautiful South Africa !
We were traveling in South Africa with my husband for our honeymoon in May.
The Kapama River Lodge was nearly the end of the trip, and it was amazing !
When we arrived, 4 people came to us to give us a warm welcom with fresh and warm towels to wash our hand and a delicious fruit juice. They took care of our luggage and then as we arrived just on time for the afternoon/night safari, we directly were introduiced to our ranger Freedom and the tracker Ringo and to the 2 other couples which were going to be our team for our stay at Kapama River Lodge.

At Kapama River Lodge :
You get the chance to go on safaris twice a day : morning (from 6AM to 9AM and afternoon/evening from 5PM to 7PM).
We said to Freedom we wished we could see the Big Five and of course as much wildlife as we could and he did his best with Ringo to show us the best of the reserve.
We got introduice to several prides of lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, giraffes, beautiful birds, warthogs, zebras, a leopard, a hippo, wildbeest and so on. The best (even if really sad was the lion eating a baby giraffe)
Sometimes we stoped in the middle of the savannah to get a tea of a drink and some snacks.

You always have your meals with your team including your ranger and tracker which is really interesting as we can ask many questions about the african wildlife.
The food is delicious, you eat a lot of specialities such as warthog, ostriches ..
There is also a nice bar to drink good cocktails.
The rooms are really clean, spacious and nicely decorated.
In the morning we got the chance to brush our teeth while looking at a pride of giraffes eating just in front of our windows.
Be careful of the vervet monkeys, they are really cute but try to steal your food ;-)
We also went to one of the free activies : the walk safari which is really interesting. You learn how to recognise foot prints, animals behaviors and it's a bit frightening to walk alone in their place and you have to respect it.
We also got one massage of 1H, it was so relaxing.

I could write much more about our stay at Kapama but I should stop .
All the staff were really nice. Thanks again for this life experience !!!

Johann, the manager; Ralph, the restaurant attendant; Freedom, the ranger; Ringo, the tracker;
Marsha, the massage therapist; and our wonderful, happy housekeeper all knew our names and each understood how to make a Kapama guest feel important and special. Upon five minutes of our arrival, Johann spent 30 minutes with the two of us explaining the daily routine which begins with a 5:00 a.m. wake-up call. He arranged a change in our flight arrangements. He checked on us regularly throughout our four day stay. Ralph oversaw the three meals a day, plus 5:30 coffee and 4:00 p.m. tea, delicious bountiful selections from chicken and trout to warthog and crocodile- something for every palate. I wish Freedom had been my zoology teacher, I learned so much about the wildlife of Africa. He and Ringo introduced us to several prides of lion, a herd of 20 elephants, a leopard, cheetah, jackal, buffalo, rhino, hippo, mongoose, owl and on and on. Marsha's massage, given in a room with the back wall entirely open to the giraffe and kudu and monkeys, was perfect. To my surprise, I was happy and excited to rise with the birds of the bush. This gorgeous and splendidly run lodge was part of a package from "Go Touch Down" tours. Bravo for their selection of Kapama.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the stairs will be better for a nap.
