“a real ' in the bush' experience”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Spent three nights in this unbelievable camp. If you want luxury, this isn't the camp for you. However if you want a a safari expeience that gives superb comfortable accomodation with full on-suite facitilies and completely individually private location, then this is the place to visit.

Isaac , the driver/tracker, was highly respected for his 25 years of accumulated knowledge of the animals and he ensured that ,we would see ,and know about, as many animals as he could possibly find eg buffalo, rhino, rare wild cat, lions, hyenna and the elephant, impalla, zebra..

When tipping at the end of your stay, my advice would be to give to the individual staff personally rather than including in the final account. By giving personally, the joy and gratitude is heart-warming.

I would have liked a change of towels during our three day stay as it was difficult to dry them completely inside the accomodation. However the remoteness, the uninterrupted views, the sounds of the animals during the night and day will stay with us forever. A magical place.

From the moment that Isaac the tracker met me at the park gate and drove me to the camp I knew I was in for a great time.
We arrived in camp to see a bull elephant standing and surveying the landscape. What an opening sighting!
My accommodation was just lovely, very comfortable and clean with plentiful hot water and superb views.
The food was home cooked, nutritious and plentiful. One night our supper was 'disrupted' by a herd of elephant who came to drink at the water hole, what an experience.
The game drives were exceptional. Gawie the guide and Isaac are a superb combination and besides finding all the usual suspects I was so lucky that we caught a rare sighting of a Honey Badger too(not the cute cuddly beast that its name might lead you to believe). Our drives often got very close to the animals but the professionals were always very aware of respecting the animals 'space' and not causing any distress. In fact the pride of lions that we found on several occassions were so relaxed that they just ignored us and carried on grooming and sunning themselves.
If you want to stay somewhere a bit unusual that is very comfortable but rustic at the same time and enjoy some superb game sightings backed up by the exceptional knowledge of the tracker and ranger then do not hesitate to stay here.
I enjoyed it so much I am just trying to work out how quickly I can return.
Thanks to all at nThambo for looking after me so well. Keep up the great work.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views of the water hole so you cannot go wrong.

i chose nthambo after reading tripadvisor reviews myself so feel like i owe it to leave one as well. nthambo is an INCREDIBLE place...even better than the pictures and great reviews lead you believe. you must see it in person. the open-air huts have such tasteful decor and the stunning views of the bush greet you in the morning, while the noises of the animals put you to bed at night. the staff went above and beyond my expectations as well. i was a solo traveler and the camp was pretty empty during my stay, so they made sure i was able to interact with others by pairing me up with the africa on foot crew for drives and meals. this communal vibe is why i chose nthambo, so i am glad they really support interaction between the guests. i met loads of great people and the conversation and stories around the campfire got quite entertaining! the food was great as well - simple yet authentic...lots of flavor and variety through my stay. A big shout out to Rein, Isaac Gawie and Yolandi for their amazing customer service.

Now onto the animals: i saw 4 of the big 5, wild dogs (my favorite!), and just about every creature you can imagine. we saw lions after a kill, lions roaring at night, elephants rhinos and monkeys on the premises. seriously, it felt like everywhere you looked, there was something new. i was shocked at how much we saw and how close we got to the animals.

i HIGHLY recommend nthambo and will definitely be returning again, hopefully with friends. this is a great option for a solo traveler or a couple and exceeded my expectations. keep up the excellent work!

From the moment Isaac, the tracker, collected us from The airport, the adventure began. We never imagined we would get so close to the animals, but with the help and expertise of Isaac, Harvey and Kevin we saw amazing animals and sights. The camp was not only beautiful but expertly run and a home from home. Yolandi and Happiness served us superb food and made us feel so at home in their paradise. I would go back in a heartbeat, not only for the wonderful wildlife, but for the excellent time spent with such dedicated people, who begin to feel like true friends. If you are reading this don't hesitate, book now!!

Our experience here left us truly spoilt! Not only are the rooms & setting fantastic, the service and safari were second to none. All the staff were friendly & helpful but also understood at times on holiday you want some privacy. The food was also very good & as much or little as you wanted.
Harvey (Gawie) the ranger was both very knowledgeable & enthusiastic with the ecology and animals. We were lucky enough to track a female leopard on our first game drive, and the wildlife just got better and better, culminating in two lions mating on our final morning drive. Isaac the tracker was also fantastic, working closely with Harvey to give us the best experience.
We didn't want to leave & this knocked the other lodge we stayed at into touch!!

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights in late December 2012 with our son and daughter-in-law. What a great place! Everything was superb - the hostesses, the cottage, the safaries, the staff, the food, the friendship. We saw a lot of wild animals and the lions were really tremendous to watch eating a Buffalo! Everybody was so friendly and what a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide and tracker! We experienced and learned a lot and would love to come back:-)

There are times when you go on holiday and find somewhere nice that words cannot describe the true affect that the resort has on your time away.
This was one of those holidays, from the moment we were met to the moment we sadly said our goodbyes, we felt that we were treated as family.
The hospitality shown by the hosts, the food ( both in size of portion and quality), the expertise of knowledge shown on game drives and the relaxed atmosphere all rolled smoothly into the greatest four days of our lives.
OK, we saw the big 5, saw the lion brothers Good and Bad, hunt and kill in front of our Jeep, yes the weather was mixed, hot sun, wet rain...isn't it always like that anywhere in the world!
We felt like we were just visiting friends from day one until day four!
If you are after a chilled camp with exciting game drives this is the place for you.
Big up Gawie and Yolandi for all their excellent work they've done. Massive respect to tracker Isaac, and the girls including the shy Happiness.
