“Boutique and beautiful”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

My wife and I were fortunate enough to experience our first taste of the African bush at nThambo and what a pleasure it was. We quickly bonded with Enoch (the best tracker EVER), Francois (the "Ranga" ), who found 4 of "the big 5" on our first night safari and Harvey whose depth of knowledge on all aspects of the bush was encyclopaedic. The next day we saw a leopard to make it a complete 5. The camaraderie developed with the other guests made our visit even more pleasurable. If you want an individual, personalised experience, then this is the place for you. Everything works well, nothing is too hard and you come away feeling the wrench of leaving family. Thanks for the wonderful memories nThambo!

We spent four wonderful nights here, in what was, for us the true 'African' experience. Having a tree house and verandah looking out over the bush, and with a waterhole two hundred yards away was incredible. During our time there, we saw the 'big five' many times over, plus cheetahs. Elephants came several times to the waterhole. The food was first class, and the staff, guide and tracker could not have been more kind and expert.

Nthambo is a small lodge, which has accommodates a maximum of 10 people. The tent huts are spacious, and cleverly designed on stilts. The front of the tent can be left open so that you can lie on your bed looking down on a flat vista beneath you. What better way to wake up in the morning? The food was excellent, and had the feel that you were being entertained in someone's home, rather than in a lodge. Gawie and Enoch were extremely knowledgeable, and made every minute in the bush fascinating, be it driving, walking or night drives. My only criticism was that 10 guests on a land rover is a bit too much, especially if they have all been in the bush for varying amounts of time. Excellent value!

We spent 3 nights here and thorough enjoyed it with an incredible safari experience, with some lovely honeymoon touches. It was important to us that the safari experience was eco-friendly, rather than feeling like we were hunting the animals down - which was exactly what we got. Our guide, Issac, and driver/manger Harvey were incredibly knowledgable and truly loved their job, respecting the animals whilst giving us the best opportunity to see them in their natural habitat. With no fence around the camp it offers as close to nature as you can get, we even had an elephant wandering around underneath our room on the last night! The food was outstanding, I'm a veggie and had some of the most lovely home cooked food I've ever eaten whilst there - breakfast, lunch and dinner were all delicious & thoroughly nutritious. Truley a wonderful experience which really makes you appreciate being out in the bush with such beautiful creatures, on their terms rather than ours.

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic with similar views out over the bush & super hot showers!

The Nthambo Tree Camp at the Klaserie Private Game Reserve is exceptional; it is a 3-years-old small lodge with a total capacity of only 10 people; the rooms( made of logs) are elevated and are totally open to the forest so one can see many animals directly from the room; the staff at Nthambo includes two excellent and very dedicated individuals (Kevin the guide and Isaac the tracker.) Isaac has over 20 years of experience; in almost every case, he was the first tracker to find the animals and then Kevin would call the vehicles from other lodges to the sites. When the vehicles from other lodges arrived, they had many more people (we were never more than 5) on them and sometimes did not have a tracker. While it was nice to be part of such a small group, Nthambo deserves to be full year around.

We spent only one night (Unfortunately) at Nthambo last week. Anyone looking for a true bush experience this is the place for you. There is no fence around he camp so the animals came right up close and personal. We had elephants, Kudus and civets come to say hello while we were sitting in the Lounge area. The rooms are really stunning and nothing tells you that you are in the bush more than laying in bed and hearing the lions roaring outside. All the staff are friendly and go out of their way to make sure that you have everything that you need. The game drives are amazing as you never know what you may find around the next corner. An overall great experience we will definitely be back.
