This certainly is the most special place in the world. We travel to South Africa 3 times year, and we always try to spend about 6 nights each time, here at nThambo. It's a real safari experience, with enough, but not too much luxury. - Thats what makes it so special. The accommodation is tented tree houses, beautifully decorated, with a comfortable king sized bed. The communal and dining areas overlook the vast expanse of bushveld, and any animals on it - giraffe, warthog, impala to name a few. The food as always, is excellent - homely South African dishes including braai (or barbeque), cooked in front of you by the ranger. The staff as always were extremely friendly - Enoch and Isaac ,our trackers were as Entertaining and dependable as ever. Since our last visit in January, some of the staff have changed, but I'd like to say how exceptional these new additions are. Lily our manageress/hostess was brilliant. She had only been there about 4 weeks, but had taken charge. She was extremely friendly, always talking to guests, ensuring everything was ok and making sure the camp ran smoothly. Matt, our ranger, was second to none. He was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and always interacted well with the guests. He never had a minute to himself whilst we were there, not only taking us on 2 x 3 hour game drives, but also a 1.5 hour bush walk every day!
There are no fences around the lodge, so any animals can walk straight through! We spent one night listening to the sound of lions roaring, as they walked slowly behind our tent. We were lucky enough to find them on game drive the next day, about 200m away. As always the game drives and viewing were exceptional, seeing the big 5 and more on several occasions. Its so great to come back so often, and find out what has been going on in the lives of our favourite animals - especially the local lion pride, the Ross pride (keep up to date at www.nthambo.com and www.sundestinations.co.za - see our daily blogs for more information on this exceptional lodge). Matt, Enoch and Isaac went to extreme lengths to ensure we had 'up close and personal' sightings at all times - so close you could almost reach out and touch the animals (although not advisable!). Our favourite sighting this visit was of a very relaxed male leopard - at night. He walked around the game vehicle, posing for some great photos, before disappearing to join his mum and brother in the darkness.

So if you are planning a trip to South Africa and Kruger, then nThambo is a must, you definitely will not be disappointed? Once there its so hard to leave - we arrived back home to rainy South Wales, an immediately booked our next trip, back out to nThambo in September 2014. So organise your annual leave, book your flights and come to this small piece of paradise and see for yourselves.

I had the opportunity to come to South Africa as part of a work trip so I booked some time off to see Kruger. After searching on here for awhile I came across Wild Wings Safari who offered nThambo as one of their options. At first I was a little worried but once I got there, all of that was put to rest.

The camp is amazing. The tree houses are very nice, comfortable, and quaint. This is NOT a luxury resort but a true out in the wild experience. With no fences around, wildlife came in and out of the camp on a regular basis. My wife and I had the pleasure of watching an elephant feed below our balcony. Just amazing.

The drives were fantastic as well. Matt was a great driver and Enoch was an amazing tracker. He took us into places we would never have otherwise gone and saw some amazing wildlife.

I will be back to this place again and would recommend it to anyone.

This is a very special lodge - everything you desire from an authentic bush experience without the bells and whistles of some other lodges. The food is simple but delicious, the accommdation very comfortable. The game viewing is extraordinary (5 leopards in one weekend!) and Chad shares facinating stories about the bush. Staff, in particular Kelly and Kevin, were very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended!

We were in NThambo for two nights (first week of March 2014). It was our first wildlife safari experience. We were pleasantly surprised. Very nicely decorated tree house type individual houses. The room was very well furnished with all the necessities (portable fan, bathroom, hot shower). The room is very cute with an amazing view of the bush. I could not sleep the first night as the cabin door (curtain) could not be zipped up. Kevin was kind enough to get it fixed the next day.
The food and staff was wonderful. Amazing game drives. It rained a lot and hence we could see a lot of animals. But Kevin and Issac did not give up. Could not go out on the morning ranger lead walks either because of the rain. We met some amazing people there.
I miss this place so much. I wish to go back someday.
Thanks guys ...

The highlight of our trip to South Africa was definitely the three days we spent at nThambo Tree Camp. The accommodations were exactly as represented on their website - beautiful rooms, the most delicious food, great wildlife (both game and birds) and especially the wonderful, knowledgable, generous staff. Kelly, Chad, Kevin and Isaac made our stay memorable and all too comfortable. We would highly recommend nThambo to anyone who wants a unique safari experience!
