Gomo Gomo Game Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 9 July 2010

We stay for six nights in July. Game spotting was excellent. Our guide Johan and tracker Jeffery were really friendly. When we arrived we had a twin room but as soon as we mentioned that we would like a double it was changed whilst we were out on a drive. Food was average and there is room for improvement. The best part of the lodge is the water hole where we could sit and watch Hippo, Elephant, Kudu, Impala and many more coming to the water.
Highly recommended

My partner and I went to Gomo Gomo this past March. I have been to numerous lodges and public parks (including most of the Kruger Camps). Gomo Gomo is a really terrific choice for a number of reasons:
- Good location: remote, but not necessary to go down too many bolder roads
- Great Food: not a big buffet, but individually made. Everything was fresh and unique. They also were very sensitive to dietary restrictions.
- Great Lodgings/Setting: The rooms are really very nice. We saw hippos and elephants at the waterhole right in front of the main lodge.
- Good game sightings: They will go off road when needed.

The team was really terrific. We had some car problems, and they figured out a way to fix it. It was really amazing.
Also, I think the lodge is very sensitive to diverse travelers. I was there with my partner and we felt very comfortable. While we were there, there was also a family with a child with a disability who was in a wheel chair. The lodge staff really went out of their way to make sure he was part of all the activities and experiences. They were incredibly sensitive and supportive. Perhaps they are already known for this, but if not, they should be.

We stayed at Gomo Gomo in February, for just one night.

What a great place !

For me, the main word that sums it up is unpretentious. The atmosphere is totally relaxed – the rangers are extremely friendly, and banter easily between themselves and with the guests, so you really get the feeling that you are part of one big, happy family.

The room are pleasant – not particularly traditionally African, I will admit, as they are very ‘chalet’ like – square brick built structures – but they are plenty large enough and comfortable, and the family rooms are ideal if you are 2 adults and 2 children travelling together, as they consist of a double bedroom, a shared bathroom, and a twin bedroom. All the chalets also have their own wooden deck.

The lodge is built on a dam, with its own resident hippo who happily will regularly throw himself out of the water for a bit of a show.

The food was extremely good – nothing too fancy, but well prepared, well presented and very tasty.

Game viewing was excellent – Gomo Gomo share their traversing rights with one other lodge, Africa on Foot – so you are not fighting for space at sightings. We sat with a large pride of lions for nearly an hour as a result ... who can complain at that ?

Pricewise, it is one of the least expensive lodges in this area … from 1st May until the end of July (yes … there is NO price increase over the World Cup period too !!!), the rate if you enquire via their website is just R1,480 per person per night; from 1st August until the end of 2010 their published rate is R1,620 per person per night. This includes morning and afternoon / evening game drives, bush walks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, teas and coffees. Children aged up to and including 2 years are FOC; children aged between 3 years and up to and including 12 years are 50% of normal adult rate. So really … quite a bargain !!

To summarise, anyone who goes here will come away feeling that they have had FUN on their safari, as well as having seen some wonderful wildlife.

The idea that you do not know what you have until it is gone truly applies here. Our first three night of five were spent with the Gomo Gomo family. We were truly cared for by the rangers and the staff. The management (a beautiful young couple) went out of their way to greet us upon arrival, in comparison this did not happen at our next lodge, Arathusa. Also after each game drive they were there, always with a smile, to see about our outing. We loved Johan our guide/tracker. On our first night drive while we were tracking a beautiful male leopard we gave chase through the bush. Now, one thing nobody warned me of, were the gigantic golden orb web spiders we would be also be encountering as we drove through said bush. Johan had the unfortunate task of pulling my arachnophobia into grip. Later I learned that these spiders only look like your worst nightmare and are incapable of biting. Our lodging was really wonderful and had an authentic African interior design, with all the comforts of home. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were fabulous…one king for snuggling and one queen for my head to rest on while dreaming of the lions and their circle of friends. High kudos for Gomo Gomo Game Lodge and their staff. Cheers!

My family (party of 4) stayed at Gomo Gomo for 3 days and nights (all included).
The bungalo was great - 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom (wonderfully done and equiped). A/C, ceiling fan, lovely front porch.
The rides were fantastic, saw lots of lions, buffalos, elephants, etc. Our guide, Jean, was fun and informative.
Meals were lovely, very elegantly sreved, a little on the skimpy side. All drinks are extra (for a fee), even the water - none served with the meal, you have to buy it seperately, which i found highly ungracious, even enraging.

We have had a great time in Gomo Gomo. The Game Drives were great; our ranger and tracker did their very best to show us all the animals and were very friendley. The coffeebreak/winebreak during the drive was very nice. Clean room, nice bed, huge bath! The food was very good, as you say: 'finger licking good!' Thanks so much for a very nice holiday with some beautiful memories, hope to come back sometime!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kruger at the Gomo Gomo Game Lodge. The Lodge benefits from exclusive access to a very large area of the Park, so whilst on game drives you are rarely going to come across any other vehicles. The rangers on the drives are friendly, informative and experts in tracking animals.

The Lodge itself isn't very large which adds to its exclusive feel. The staff are extremely friendly and the rooms are comfortable, though basic. The food served at the lodge was ok, but being vegetarian our experience was always goign to be a little inferior to non-vegetarians. The best feature about the Lodge is that it is located next to a watering hole, so you can enjoy viewing all the animals coming to the watering hole to drink.
