We stayed at Monwana at the end of May 2013. We've visited several safari accommodations in South Africa and Monwana is up there with the best. Mich and Charel looked after us superbly; food was excellent, plentiful and homely, especially in view of the location, which is deep into the veld. Accommodation offered top home comforts (including air con, mosquito nets, large shower and bath with great views, wifi and a strong mobile phone signal). The location was wonderful being next to a water hole and river bed. There was plenty of wildlife to watch in between game drives including some harmless entries into the camp itself!! Eating around the open fire was very special (particulary when you are spoiled with hot water bottles and knee blankets for the cooler nights!). It is a small and intimate 'camp'. Our time had a variety of international guests, which added to the experience. Hello to those in Alberta, New York and Seattle! You will not go wrong at Monwana.

As a Canadian, everything initially seemed foreign yet exceeded our expectations! The staff were fantastic and the food was delicious. Each game drive provided numerous sightings of all big 5 animals and lots of interesting information provided by a VERY knowledgable Guide and Tracker. It is encouraging to see how committed the Thornybush reserve is to conservation of the animals and their habitat. I never imagined I would sit as a lion pride or elephant herd walked within feet of our open jeep. Places like this will ensure future generations can have similar great experiences. I highly recommend adding this trip to your "bucket list"!.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar - let the lodge place you.

Just had the pleasure of staying at Monwana Lodge. The accomodations were wonderful and the staff even better! We had the fortune of having Mich, Charl and G-force for most of our stay. (Emma and Jacques were away for a much deserved break). Every time we went out on a drive we had incredible sightings. Marvin G, the lion, always gave us a show. Travelling through a huge herd of cape buffalo was exhiliarating. Watching a leopard with her young was captivating. Seeing the BIG 5 in this area seems to be the norm, not the exception.
Would I go to Monwana again?...in a heartbeat!!! Thank you for an amazing safari experience!!

Our stay at Monwana was absolutely outstanding!! The food, accommodation and facilities were fantastic - but it was really about the overall experience! The entire team at Monwana is so knowledgeable and really strive to meet the needs and expectations of the guests! We stayed for 4 nights, did 2 game drives each day, and saw something new and exciting each time. The rangers and trackers were extremely respectful of all of the animals and the environment, yet were able to get us so close for amazing sightings and a true opportunity to see and learn about the wildlife. Emma, Jacques, Mich, Charl, Giyani and Morris made our stay so memorable! We can't wait to go back!

We stayed in Monwana for 3 days and nights which have been the absolute highlight of our 3-week holiday in South Africa. The lodge is superb: excellent service by Emma and the other members of the crew and the game drives led by Jacques and Morris are spectacular every time again. The food is very good and the location of the lodge with views on a drinking place for animals and next to the river is great. When relaxing at the pool it is no exception that you are inspected by some kudu's or impala's coming into the camp during the day. Great experience. A huge thanks to all members of the Monwana team for a lovely stay, we will definitely come back.

I would highly recommend staying at thsi lodge if one visits Thornybush. The rooms are spacious and the service is absolutely amazing. The hostess Emma went out of her way to make our stay memorable. Our room like many others overlooked a water hole where we could sit back and relax while watching game such as Buffalo, Zebra, Impala, Kudu, Nyala come and go. It was pure bliss. The food is also excellent. We required Halaal food and Emma went out her way to cater great food for us. During our stay 3 day stay we managed to see the big 5. The black Rhino siting we had were one of the best I have ever had and the Lion siting was special as well as we were in touching distance of them in our open Landrover. Will definatly be returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a room which overlooks the water hole.
