What a true African experience! I don't even know where to start..... Upon arrival the Chapungu staff welcomed us as we drove into the lodge. The tents were neat and beautiful not to even talk about the outside bath. The food was cooked to perfection! The Chapungu staff spoiled us and made our stay extremely special! Gerhard and Sedrick went the extra mile on each and every game drive. We saw the BIG 5 up close and personal. What an amazing amazing experience!!! I was so fortunate to have celebrated my birthday there! The chef Sam, made a birthday cake for me and we celebrated it in true African style! Champungu we will see you again soon! Thank you for a wonderful experience, hospitality and your generosity.

We arrived at Chapungu pretty tried from our journey and were immediately made to feel welcome and at home. The "tents" are very substantial and it doesn't feel like you're in a tent when you're inside, although you do have the excitement of various bugs smashing into the side of the canvas through the night, which made us jump at first (and laugh!).
We chose a fantastic time to go on safari - at the very beginning of December when it seems like there aren't that many people doing the same thing - so we had the camp almost entirely to ourselves with just one other couple for 2 nights and just us on the final night, when we were treated to a candle lit dinner by the fire. As it was our Honeymoon this was absolutely perfect. It really felt like we were spoiled rotten and were able to ask as many questions as we wanted about the things we were interested in.
The safari surpassed all our expectations and having done another safari afterwards and spoken to lots of people who have been on safari before, it's safe to say we saw pretty much everything anyone ever would, largely down to our amazing guide Gerrard and fantastic spotter Aubrey (the man has nerves of steel). There were so many highlights it's hard to list them but we saw each of the Big 5 several times including leopards both at day and night, we were surrounded by elephants who came so close their ears flapped us and we fell in love with the baby warthogs. We weren't quite so enamoured with the massive crazy flying dung beetles (they really hurt when they fly into you at speed) but we sort of got used to them.
The food was very traditional and tasty and there was so much we hardly made a dent in it each day. We particularly enjoyed trying all the traditional puddings on offer and loved the presentation of the food by the chefs at each meal - it was lovely to be able to interact with them.
The camp really is an experience not to be missed. Every single member of staff from the house keepers to the kitchen porters and security staff made a big effort to get involved and to make sure we had the best time ever...and we did!

Highly recommend Chapungu game reserve. We had the most fantastic end to our honeymoon here. All the staff are just brilliant! Sips and Oscar on Safari, Christine and Kaitlin at reception and all the waiting staff and chefs, I wish I could remember all their names to thank them all. We stayed for three nights and seen everything we wanted too and more including a Pangolin! They somehow found out it was my 30th birthday and made a massive birthday cake on our last night which was big enough for all the guests and staff on the night and the next morning at breakfast too. The chef and waitresses sang happy birthday African style so really made my birthday. The security guard at night was great too, really friendly and made sure we got to our room safe! The food was amazing, can’t fault it at all. My husband is a chef so would know more than me about food and he also thought it was amazing the best food we had on our whole South African trip. I would definitely love to go back and highly recommend it to stay for safari. Niamh & Jamie, Ireland

A wonderful safari experience. Staff were excellent, food superb. Accommodation top notch. Totally unlike any tent I have ever experienced! Didn't feel like any kind of 'camp' but more like a five star hotel. Rangers went all out to give us the best experience and game viewing offering us the Big Five in two days. Fantastic leopard and lion sightings. Wouldn't hesitate to return even though I was apprehensive of the 'tents' until I saw and experienced them. Have always enjoyed Thornybush lodges and this was another feather in their cap.

Chapungua camp is run like the best 5 star brick and mortar hotel. From the quiet and peaceful surroundings, with the occasional roaring of lions to the soft linens on the beds to the decanter of sherry on the night stand. The staff is family. Genuine concern from the front desk manager to the chef to the rangers and guides for your comfort and South African experience. Don't miss this great place to stay and enjoy!

If you are looking for an amazing safari experience, then this is the place! We arrived, and were greeted at the doors, and led into a sanctuary. The outdoor pool with waterfall and bar are relaxing and breathtaking. All the staff were amazing, and so helpful. We were shown to a beautiful tented lodge that was cleaned 2x per day with turn down service.
As it was my husbands and I's Honeymoon we received Champagne and a wonderful surprise from the hotel! The food and drinks at the lodge were superb and we even had light refreshments on our game drive's.
The game in Thorneybush was plentiful! We saw all the Big 5 plus a Cheetah (which is rare for Kruger Park). Our tracker and Ranger were so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - They made our safari experience!

I cannot say enough good things about this lodge! If you are looking for a luxury lodge, at a good price, with plenty of game drives and wild life. Stay here!!!

We spent 3 absolutely wonderful days here and went out on six safari trips, each one equally as great. Micah and Aubrey were fantastic guides and were able to get us to see all the animals that we wanted to see - and at such close range, that was amazing. Micah has a very dry sense of humour which Bot my husband and I found very amusing. He was also extremely knowledgeable and great at keeping us entertained with his stories.
The lodge was great - rooms very private, even with a bath on the terrace!
The staff were helpful and everything was prepared to a high standard.
Fab holiday.

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderful - lodge 1 has its own 'watering hole'.
