“Experience of a lifetime”
Reviewed 4 November 2009

The location, service and staff were all above expectations. The weather happened to be perfect for safari and from the welcome to the time we left, we could not have been made to feel more welcome. We ate great and our guide made sure we saw every animal we wanted. The owners happened to be on site and that was a nice treat and ust a great experience. We will be back with our kids and will recommend to friends.

We spent 4 days in Kambaku which were the highlight of our trip to SA.
We saw so many animals so close... great. Thank's Quinton and Eric.
Rooms were extraordinary nice and the food was delicious.
Everybody was so friendly, that you felt at home right away.
If you want to go on safari, this ist the place to go.

This is a truly special place, where they excel not only on the big things, but also all of the small things.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights and we feel that amount of time was perfect. It allowed us to have 8 game drives and a few bush walks. Each game drive was different, but all were amazing. Having 8 game drives allowed us to really enjoy our time there and not get overly concerned about what we were going to see on any particular drive.

Our ranger, Howard ,and our tracker, Eric, were first class. Howard was exceedingly intelligent and was able to tailor game drives in anyway we wanted. He competently answered all of our questions and always kept reference books with him should we desire to learn or read even more about what we were experiencing. Eric was a very charming man who's tracking skills were amazing. He once found a chameleon on a bush in the middle of the night while we were driving at a pretty good clip.

During our drives we did see all of the big 5 and we saw 4 of the big 5 multiple times. In addition we saw countless other animals and birds. This included giraffe, hippos, zebras, wild African cat, water buck, Kudu, white-tailed mongoose, vultures, hyena, monkeys and many more. In some other reviews there were concerns about traversing rights. I was actually very impressed with how large of an area that we could traverse. You cover the same area of some of the other camps and you can really see everything you would ever want in the area. I honestly can not understand what they are complaining about.

The owners of the lodge, Tanya and John, are also very charming and hospitable hosts. It is clear that they want guests to have a first class experience. They go out of their way to ensure that each guest has a unique stay.

The food at the lodge is wonderful. By one count, we decided we are fed at least 7 times in the day. Predawn coffee and rusk, morning game drive snack, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, afternoon game drive snack (with sundowner), dinner. All of this food is excellent and if you rather not eat -- that is fine with them too.

They have a nice selection of drinks and all are very reasonably priced. A bottle of wine at dinner is $10-15 USD and it is very good wine. The service staff are very kind and gave a level of service that was never intrusive, but always available. Bennett and Louie were great.

The chalets are very lovely. We stayed in chalet one, right next to the watering hole. The bed was comfortable and the level of electricity was perfect -- we had a couple of outlets, two lights and a ceiling fan. Most of the light at night came from lanterns. This created a very tranquil and romantic environment.

If you do want to/need to check your email, they have fee wifi near the office.

In short, I would recommend without any hesitation to my friends and family. If you stay here you will not regret it!

We stayed 3 nights. Group consisted of 2 adults and 2 children, aged 9 & 5. During our stay we had Quintin and Eric as our guides and proved themselves outstanding in what they were doing. John the owner was also very accommodating as SA Express lost our luggage and John wanted to supply us with camera's, jackets etc untill our luggage arrived. Food was excellent. Staff- Excellent. Everyone enjoyed seeing animals at close range. Can not recommend enough. Thanks Kambaku.

Myself and my husband spent 3 nights here on safari. It was by far the highlight of our honeymoon. Quentin our driver and Eric the tracker were both excellent at showing us the best Kruger had to offer. They worked so hard to ensure we saw the big five - only animal we did not see was the leopard. But we were very lucky to see a pack of wild dogs (which had not been seen in over a year). The food was outstanding under the supervision of Yolandie - everything homemade - so much thought went into deciding every meal. Robyn was very helpful with the booking of our trip to Kruger. Best quality food in South Africa - yummy. All the staff were incredibly friendly and genuine. Highly recommended. Anne & Gareth Bourke

This totally surpassed all my expectations. We went for 2 days (4 drives) as part of a trip over for the Lions Rugby Tour. It was one of the standout highlights of the trip.
We saw 4 of the big 5 (damn leopards) and lots of other game. We had great sightings of hippo, lions (males, female and cubs), rhino, buffalo and wild dogs in particular. Our photos are incredible! I was a safari virgin, and was blown away by the experience and the closeness to truly wild animals.
Quinton and Eric proved a very knowledgedable and interesting team as ranger and guide.
Kambaku itself is a beautiful setup. Lovely, clean spacious rooms that are really nicely kitted out. The food and staff are exceptional - group dining in the evenings under the stars!
I would unhesitatingly recommend this and I would go back in a heartbeat, for longer.
