There was only one problem with this place; that we ever had to leave!!
We had planned our wedding here and hoped it would be memorable however what we found far exceeded our expectations.
Met personally at recption by two members of staff, ice cold lemoade and cookies, we sat on soft plush sofas we were treated like royalty whilst we checked in. We were then taken to Uplands to be greeted by the staff on the front lawn singing and dancing and offering more refreshments .
There soon followed a High Tea, the first of many fabulous meals.I am vegetarian and had thought I might suffer in South Africa; i never imagined that I would not be able to eat all that I was offered as there was simply too many gorgeous options. We recommend the iced coffee and the banana cake, also the vegetabe kebabs; delicious...
The staff could not do enough for us, an example of the service was their taking my wedding dress into the town, at least a twenty minute drive to get it pressed, free of charge. When I booked a massage they decided to base the masseuse at Uplands for the whol day 'just in case' anyone else needed her or I felt like some more treatments, she was also there on the day of the wedding to lend a hand.
Unfortuneately thew weather was unpredictable and the staff allowed me to wait until the very last minute to see if the rain would stop and we could heve the wedding out in the bush afterall. It didn't stop but in the end the chapel was magical as were the gospel choir.
Uplands itself was a warm and comfortable three suited old style colonial house (see photos). By the time we left the staff felt like our family and I have to say that both my husband and I had a tear or two to shed!! As far as people go, I really don't think they get any more genuine than the staff at Kwandwe. We even asked two of them to be our witnesses.
There are two Game drives a day, the enthusiasm of the rangers was impressive, they obviously love their job and really go the extra mile, trying to meet requests for viewing specific animals. The highlight for us was sitting in our bath at midnight and hearing a lion roaring right outside.
The sundowners on the game drive were fabulous and when it did rain, well the chocomocorula is something not to be missed!!!
We went onto Ecca Lodge after the wedding which was also great but not a patch on the personal effect and service of Uplands. The experience really was was out of this world.
