Shamwari Game Reserve Lodges

Having only booked one night at Shamwari, we were completely accepting of the fact we might not see much, if anything. However, thanks to our amazing ranger Abel, we saw an incredible array of animals - lions, cheetah, rhino, giraffe, hippo, zebra and more. Abel was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and seemed to be able to spot animals from a mile away!
The accommodation was also spectacular, with a huge room including separate lounge, two toilets, a bath and shower. Food was also lovely and the staff were incredibly polite and efficient. The only downside to the entire stay was the couple (English, like us, which was embarrassing), who made a huge show of refusing their dinner as they said it was too late and that the service had been "appalling". This was completely untrue and it's a shame they spoiled the experience for themselves and made untrue comments about the staff. To set the record straight: although dinner may have been a little slow purely due to the numbers arriving for food at the same time, the service was never less than superb and the food was beautiful. Shame they missed out!

As for us, we had an incredible time and would thoroughly recommend it. Even for one night, it's an experience you'll never forget. It might seem expensive but when you bear in mind you get two game drives, loads of food and drink and luxury accommodation (plus supporting their conservation programme) it really is worth every penny.

We had the room at the main house above the restauarant. It is the nicest room with a balcony overlooking the garden. Very exquisite and huge room and bathroom. Excellent food. Every guest has its own dedicated ranger for the whole stay. Two games per day (3 hours each) and full board are included in the price. Two nice swimming pools in the garden. Long Le Manor is a good starting point for the game drives. We saw the big five (even Lepard, elephant, buffalo, lion, black rhino). In addition we saw loads of antilopes, a hippo, two chetahs, black faced monkeys and giraffes.
Although it is very expensive, we personally recommend it for a once in a lifetime experience.

This place was brilliant on arrival we were asked our dietry needs and this was taken on board if you did not like what they made they would do something else for you. Our ranger Vuyo could spot an animal about three miles away we went to places other rangers would not go ie a very big hill to see three lions he also spent time with us at breakfast and at the evening meal so he could get to know us he was very funny. The.rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful but you spend most of your time with your ranger so it is important to get to know each other we had some great game drives leopard with a kill lions with cubs with a kill black and white rhino.Thank you all for a great time

We had great expectations but these were all surpassed, all the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the tented lodges, which were very comfortable and private. Food was good and plentiful. However Mino our ranger took service to a different level. He managed to find us so many different animals, often tracking them down by pooh and footprints! He had a great understanding of the animals behaviours as well as a very good knowledge of flora , fauna and birds. He made us feel us feel as if we were such special clients. We can't wait to return!

This was our first trip to Shamwari and our first safari, and everything far surpassed our expectations. We stayed at Eagles Crag, which is in a superbly laid out setting within what nature designed, offers peace and tranquillity, but still with a family of monkeys right at the front door! Food was great, service was great and the people were great. The individual lodges are luxury itself, and there's absolutely nothing lacking.

But of course we were there for the game drives, and were simply blown away. From the very first drive when our ranger Jan used his skills to seek out a leopard, and having sat patiently for about 10 minutes it calmly walked out of the undergrowth towards us! As one of our party said 'magical, simply magical'. I could fill 10 reviews with the all the fantastic experiences we had on the game drives, and all the fabulous spread of animals, birds and flora we came across, and having someone like Jan at the helm meant that we were never left in ignorance about anything, and there was always a new surprise around the corner.

A truly memorable experience.

This was our 2nd trip to Long Lee Manor and just as good as the first. The service is outstanding and all the staff seem committed to making sure your time here is the best. We were fortunate to get Phillip as our ranger again this time. He is both very knowledgeable and entertaining. We had 4 game drives, seeing the lions 3 times (including the alpha male once), cheetahs, a buffalo stampede, a hippo grazing, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras, etc etc - everything except the leopard which we were fortunate to see on our last visit. One of our "gang" was very interested in birds and we thought Phillip was particularly knowledgeable here and should be requested (in advance) if you are a "birdie". The food was very plentiful and excellent.
