We stayed at Long Lee Manor in suites that had unrestricted views of the game reserve. Had an enormous full bathroom, lounge and 2 toilets. From the moment we arrived till we left, the service and attention was 5star. The food was excellent and our Ranger Jessica was simply the best. The rooms were done twice a day with a turn down service. It was expensive but we felt we got our money's worth.

My wife, myself and three kids (9,10,12) spent three nights in Sirili Lodge. We flew from Cape Town into Port Elizabeth and drove for about one hour to the lodge. The whole experience was fantastic; initially i was disappointed not to get into Riverdene Lodge which is for families. However Sirili was perfect for us....5 double rooms for families. We had no-one else staying for the first 24 hours and then had a lovely family join us at the lodge. The kids were the same ages and we all got on very well.
The staff couldn't have been better. Led by the lovely Yolanda, with Thobela attending to anything we needed (including singing and dancing with the kids and teaching them African games),nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely but be prepared for 2 x 3 course meals every day as well as a large breakfast! Tasting Impala, kudu and ostrich was great, but they also serve pasta, steak, and burgers etc for the less adventurous They have a decent wine list too.
The game drives were informative, with Armand an excellent guide. We saw the big 5 though admittedly we had to see the leopard in the Born Free sanctuary! The leopards are very illusive. Lions were close to the lodge and we heard them roar regularly and saw them often. One night they were just outside the lodge's perimeter fence, which terrified the kids despite there being no danger at all. There were plenty of elephants and giraffe as well as every type of antelope etc. and it was great seeing the cheetahs regularly. We went on 5 drives which is about enough. The Born Free sanctuary is well worth seeing and is 2 minutes drive from the lodge.
The view from Sarili in breathtaking, overlooking a river and a decent sized plain where lions, deer, elephants and monkeys roamed.....though not at the same time!
We were sad to leave as this was a magical place....all my kids saying it's the best trip they've ever been on. Can't recommend it highly enough. Tip well when you leave, the staff are amazing.

Room Tip: Room 2 is very big (the biggest) with a lovely view. The two rooms on the top terrace also have the...

- Shamwari Game Reserve - I have been to quite a few game reserves/parks in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa and Shamwari is by far the best over all experience for game. I think this is due to a few things but the main ones being excellent and comfortable vehicles, the best Rangers I have ever encountered and the small touches like the hot water bottles and the champagne at sunset from the viewing platform.

Long Lee Manor - All the rooms seemed to have amazing views, were huge with massive ceilings and still being elegant as well as understated. I would stay here again as well as recommend to one and all. My only small complaint would be that the lunch experience on day 2 seemed a bit disjointed, with food taking a very long time to come out. The food itself was still amazing it just took a little while.

Ranger - Phillip - Phillip was by far the best ranger I have ever had the privilege to meet. His knowledge seemed endless, his manner so warm and friendly and his ability to keep us all laughing and engaged was amazing!

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to have sweeping views of the valley however the lower rooms were closer to the...

The central part of our first trip to South Africa - and it was amazing!

We stayed at Eagles Crag and the staff there couldnt have looked after us any better!

This was a great experience from the moment we arrived late - thanks British Airways - and thought we'd missed our first game drive. No! They whistled up a spare ranger and Land Rover and he rushed us out to meet up with our main group (quite an exhilarating ride which soon got rid of the travel and airports!) - there were 2 other couples so a nice group of only 6.

Our ranger Beth is a most charming and knowlegable guide and we had a great two days with him. I liked the sundowners on the way back to base (!) but not so much the 5 am alarm calls!

On the last morning I used the excuse of having to drive later on so I stayed in bed and it turned out that my partner was the only early riser on that trip and she had a whale of a time with a personal trip from Beth!

In the evenings food was plentiful especially the camp fire BBQ and breakfast after the early starts and we didn't need the lunch!

Great individual suites - each a separate unit in the grounds with its own deck with plunge pool and outside shower too!

We saw every kind of wild animal we could ever have wanted to see and can only say - Lets go back!!

Spent 2 nights at Long Lee Manor, Shamwari Game Reserve. I had the most wonderful time. I travelled to Shamwari solo but I felt totally at ease as soon as I got there.

I would like to say a special thanks to Patrick, my ranger. Patrick was amazing and ensured that I saw as many animals as possible. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. A special thanks to Charlene, who was amazingly kind and thoughtful.

I also took advantage of the Spa and would definitely recommend it.

I had the most amazing time and would definitely return to Shamwari.
