An excellent time was had.
The game drives were excellent due to the excellent guide who was fully knowledgeable about the park and the animals.

The accommodation was to a very high standard and the staff where easy and pleasant to speak too.

Room Tip: All room are to a very high standard

We stayed for 6 nights at Bayethe Lodge in the middle of May and in the words of our children (a 22 and 20 year old!) we had the best experience of our lives. We were initially worried that 6 nights might have been too long for a Safari, but we needn't have worried, in fact it wasn't long enough, we could have stayed forever! Everything about our trip was excellent, we really couldn't fault anything. Our tent was amazing, a fantastic way to start and end your day, showering under the stars at night was wonderful. We want to give a special mention to Mino, our wonderful Ranger who made our trip so memorable. We saw so many animals in the time we spent with him (Lions and lion cubs, cheetahs, Black and White Rhino, Leopard, lots of Elephants, Buffalo) and he made each game drive different. We will never forget picnic lunches with herds of elephants in the background, sundowner drinks overlooking the Bushmans River and even a birthday cake!, such special memories. If you are trying to decide if its worth paying the extra money to visit Shamwari, our advice is you will not regret it, its worth every penny.

Room Tip: We had two luxury tents which were wonderful, i think they are in the process of updating some of th...

We stayed for 6 days at Eagles Crag in June 2014 and had the most wonderful time. The food and accommodation was excellent. The Game drives were superb. Whilst we saw a great variety of game it was the proximity to truely wild animals that was most stunning. We were not about counting numbers (although we did see a great deal) but on quality and for that there could be no better, simply because we could not have got closer if they had tried. Also the care taken to ensure we were in the best position to see and photograph the animals was also worthy of note. Our guide Frans was excellent. His knowledge of not just the major animals but also of the lesser animals, birds and flora made for a complete experience. I cannot recommend Shamwari in general and Eagles Crag in particular enough.
Tip - It is very cold in the mornings and in the evening at the end of the drive (we had frost on our deck on two mornings) so do pack some really warm clothing. Blankets were provided on the vehicles and were very welcome but you needed warm clothing as well to be comfortable.

We stayed in Bayethe Tented Lodge and from our arrival to when we left, the reserve, the accommodation, and the people truly made this an unforgettable experience for us. My husband and I could not have asked to be treated any better. We were also privileged in sharing our game drives with a wonderful group of people from all over the globe (to note that we are South Africans). Together we had wonderful game drives, our "very alert" ranger spotted the animals as we raised various requests and our lunches and dinners were shared with our "safari team mates". All in all we had so much fun, felt well treated and have recommended Shawari and in particular the tented lodge to all our friends.

Room Tip: We loved Bayethe Tented Lodge merely due to creating the "suggestion" of staying in a tent...

Stayed in Long Lee Manor for 3 nights in March 2014 on our 4th trip to SA. We have stayed in other Private Game Reserves in the past and are huge fans of the game drive experience - the size of Shamwari and the dedication and expertise of our ranger (Abel) made this truly memorable for us.

Where to start-

The people - always friendly and 100% committed to ensure that their guests had the most enjoyable stay possible. Ranger Abel is nothing short of a legend in our view - he started work on the main gate at the age of 14 and is now a fantastically knowledgable and popular guide.

The animals - fantastic variety with all of the Big 5 within the reserve although the cheetahs were elusive (it wasn't for want of trying...). Don't be surprised if your most memorable moment comes completely out of the blue (examples being a group of a dozen giraffe nervously crossing a stream, a large herd of water buffalo coming out of misty bush into direct sunlight or a moody bull elephant rejecting the obvious offer/attentions of one of his ladies....

Accommodation - great - v modern and v spacious.

Food - top quality (& plenty of it) - the BBQ experience is great - a tip would be to avoid wearing anything that you want to wear later on your holiday - the smoke smell does linger!

Would we come back - absolutely and we would hope to see Abel again as long as he hasn't eaten too many bananas (private joke - he is very fond of them!).

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of our holiday along the garden route.
We stayed in Longlee Manor.

We were welcomed By Mondae with cold homemade lemonade, exactly what we needed after a 4 hour drive.

The room was bigger than our 2 bed flat in London. So clean and perfectly furnished.
All staff were very helpful and kind.
All meals were of an exceptionally high standard and extremely tasty.
The safari/game drives were breathtaking. Words cannot explain how amazing our stay was.
I would 100℅ recommend Shamwari and will definitely visit again!
