This is our third visit to Tau and is our number one place to choose to go on holiday. Saving our pennies for the next visit. Everything about the lodge is amazing. I have not met one single person who works there who does not go out of their way to be helpful and it is totally sincere. The setting is stunning, the fact that you can view tons of game from your terrace is spectacular. The actual game drives are out of this world. Every ranger tailors the drive to suit the needs of the traveller and our ranger Kelly went way above and beyond what could be deemed normal to make sure we had the best opportunity to see a leopard. It's not just the big five that are exciting, we also managed to catch sight of a very shy porcupine, as well as rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe and many more. The hotel has the knack of providing exactly what you need from the lovely roaring wood burning fire in the reception area to Amarula coffee on the game drives in the morning and we very much enjoyed stretching our legs in the bush with a glorious sundowner G&T at dusk. The food was first class and our boys are notoriously fussy eaters, the hotel were only too happy to oblige with food to suit their taste too. Particular thanks though to our ranger Kelly who really did go out of her way to educate and entertain. She made learning about the animals an absolute joy. One aspect of Tau that I really think needs to be experienced to understand but which really makes it for us, is that you feel as if you are family when you stay here. You are never really aware of most of the other guests aside from when you go to dinner in the dining room. It's not a one hat fits all approach, where people are crammed into the game vehicles to maximise profitability, quite the reverse. It is an intimate experience which will provide you with memories to last a lifetime. It is so beautifully quiet in the Madikwe reserve too since individual drivers are not allowed, so at times when you stop to look at an animal in their natural habitat, you can be forgiven for feeling as if you have gone back in time. In summary all I can say is that I do not think you will ever be disappointed visiting Tau, it is a truly magical place.

We had a very good stay at Tau. The lodge has watering holes around the edge of the property which means that game drives are not 100% necessary as the animals come to you! We have visited many lodges across SA - and what made this lodge stand out was the spa. Tau's head therapist is superb and very knowledgable - so much so that we visited the spa every day during our trip (the prices are v.reasonable) I highly recommend visiting the lodge if you want to see good game/eat good food and enjoy some pampering!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 3

There's not much that can be said for Tau lodge, besides "What a great weekend away!"...

Our room looked over the waterhole, which teamed with wildlife the WHOLE weekend. From herds of 50+ elephant, waterbuck, zebra, giraffe, rhino - to a scuffle of 100+ buffalo in the middle of the night and lion calls in the darkness.
At one stage, I counted 7 different types of game at the water, in the afternoon.

Game rangers are all great - Doey was exceptional. Paying attention to little details, teaching the guests about birds, crickets, trees, in addition to a little off-road adventure to see the reunion of the cheetah coalition.

Perfectly poached eggs for breakfast, light salads for lunch and dinner under the stars - what a great experience.

Thank you to everyone who made our weekend so special!

Room Tip: As for rooms 3-9 - they are slightly further from the main dining area - but have great game experie...

We went to Tau game reserve for a couple if days last week. What an incredible place! The position is unbelievable ( you become quite used to having elephants, bucks rhinos , even predators right on your front porch on a daily basis). But what stood out for us most was the attitude if each and every staff member. Their warmth, and genuine concern for your comfort sets this lodge apart . Murray( our game ranger) was not only extremely knowledgable, but worked incredibly hard ( and succeeded)!! In allowing us to experience the bush as we have never experienced it. A special mention also to Michael ( the arsenal supporter) who went out if his way for us, and was particularly kind to my son. All in all an experience you do not want to miss

An absolute must ! We have just had our second stay at Tau Game Lodge and are totally wowed. The suite's all over look the waterhole each being totally private. We saw elephant, giraffe, crocodile, zebra and waterbuck from the comfort of our patio. The main dining area and bar also over look a bustling waterhole so you never far from the action. The game drives were generously long with expert ranging (we saw cheetah, black backed jackal, brown hyena and cubs, Red hartebeest, lion cubs, tons of elephants, waterbuck, kudu, zebra, serval, tortoise, cheetah, giraffe, vulture to name only some) Of course the G & T's watching the setting sun always finish the day off perfectly. We have come home with further knowledge of not only the animals but of the geography, fauna and flora. The food was excellent, well presented and great different variety each day. The salads I thought were extraordinary. The service is personal and always with a polite greeting and a smile. One of the little touches I most enjoyed was a heated face cloth on return from game drives, coming into the suite after a cool walk back from dinner to find the room heated, and better yet - to slip in under the crisp white linen to discover the bed was toasty warm thanks to an electric blanket !
I can't wait for my return, what a gem.

Room Tip: All rooms have an amazing view - I have stayed in both North and south side and found them to be muc...

We had a wonderful stay at Tau, the staff are very friendly and want to help. The food was great and had options to please everyone. The game was the best treat ever. Ernest was our ranger and we saw four of the big five, as well as loads of birds, cheetahs, jackels, wild dog, hyena cubs and adults. We will definitely be back for another visit, thanks all for making the visit so memorable.

We first visited Tau Lodge in the mid 1990's, when you had to have an armed escort from your room to the main lodge in case there were lions around! Now there are fences around the whole compound. We had some wonderful memories of the place and the animals. Returning in 2014 it is still a beautiful place, it has grown, there are a lot more chalets now, but so have the trees and gardens around the chalets, and it feels a very natural and beautiful environment. The accommodation and service was excellent. The food was especially good, I am on a gluten free diet and there was always plenty for me to eat without worrying. The chef baked gluten free muffins for me to eat each morning before the game drives and made a gorgeous chocolate cake for my birthday, he was always on hand to answer any questions I had about what foods I could eat. The rooms were lovely too, clean, stylish and well maintained, all looking out onto the water hole and from where we saw elephants drinking and six giraffes looking rather panicked in a wild thunder and lightning storm!!!The game drives were spectacular, our driver Earnest worked hard to find all the animals we wanted to see, all the' big five', as well as a pack of wild dogs just going off for a hunt, a group of four cheetah brothers, and many more, we lost count!! His knowledge of the animals and their behaviour meant we got very close to them and learnt a lot about them. Thank you to everyone at Tau Lodge who made our stay so fantastic again, we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: They are all excellent! We had a deluxe chalet which gave us more room, including a seating area, b...
