Jamala Madikwe was a dream come true. The food, the wine, the service, the rooms, the people were ALL outstanding. The safari tour guides were not just so knowledgable… they were warm and charismatic. We were sad to say good bye. If you can make it happen… trust me your expectations will be surpassed. If you go in winter like we did, it is worth it to pack wool socks, long johns, and proper gear for keeping your face and head/ears warm. They give you hot water bottles and blankets which help but its freezing in an open air vehicle. I wish we'd been less worried about bug spray (saw no mosquitoes) & brought our winter gear. If there are animals out, your guides WILL FIND. We saw everything! The most difficult part was coming back to "real life" after living like a celebrity for 3 days.

Dear gshickler
I am so happy to receive a great review from you, thank you.
We do try and offer the best food and service in Madikwe, and recently won Best Safari Cuisine in Africa 2014. The guides are so enthusiastic and passionate about Africa.

We are heading into cooler weather now and June/ July can be very cold especially on game drive early morning. The bugs are not to bad and mosquitos only bite me nobody else luckily no malaria so no need for anti-malaria medication.

I am so glad you felt like a celebrity with us, that's how we want every guest to feel. We hope to have you visit us again.

This is my second Safari, and my first in South Africa. Staying in this hotel is just an amazing experience. The hotel has few beautiful villas and is breathtaking.
All the villas have a little swimming pool and total privacy. From the room you can see the animals coming to eat and drink water in front of your room !!! is incredible !!! the rooms are beautiful, with big space, two showers ( one outside and one inside ), a living room, a little dinning room ( if you want to eat in the room ) , the bed is big and great !!! and the rooms also have a tub that they have ready with hot water in the afternoon when you come back from the safari !! ; the decoration of the villas and the main lobby is very beautiful. They take care of every detail !!!! The owner is so nice and knowledgeable. He takes care of every detail. The people that works there are so friendly. Even though I did not use the spa, is the best I have seen .They even have a little gym where you can jog looking at the wild animals coming to eat in front of you. The ranger that takes out is so nice and knows everything about the animals.
This is a place not only for a safari, but to relax; perfect for a honey moon. Don't miss it if you can.
The food is superb !!! they have a chef that comes out every night to tell you about the choices !!! is better than a 5 star restaurant. The wine is also superb.

Room Tip: Any room as they all look to the place where animals come to eat and drink. They are all privet and quiet.

Dear Maria Virginia V
We are always blown away when we get great reviews, and yours is no different.
The rooms were designed to offer great views over the Jamala waterhole whilst always remaining private and comfortable. We always try and make each guest stay special, running a bubble bath for you is just a small gesture. The team and I take great care in the food we prepare and I am so pleased you enjoyed it.

We do get a lot of honeymoon couples and its safe to say Jamala is a true romantic African getaway. We hope to see you return to this beautiful lodge.

A superb experience. Communication in setting up the reservation was excellent. They arranged the flight for us from Johannesburg. They met us at the landing strip and brought us to the lodge for a very warm welcome, escorted us to our lodge which was extraordinary in its comforts. I just could not expect such comfortable surroundings in the wild bush.
Hospitality was excellent. The meals were excellent and ideal for those with dietary problems.
We stayed 3 nights, had our own driver/ranger who made sure that we saw all the lovely animals that inhabit this area. We indeed saw the big "5". They made sure that we had enough trips out to the bush to se it all. A magnificent experience . If you go on Safari, this is the place to do it, and one more bonus, it is in a mosquito free zone, so no anti-malarial medication is necessary.

Room Tip: 5 villas, all equal.

Hi pbenj
We are so happy to get this great review from you. Rodney the owner handles most of the reservations and booking details himself, so we know guests are well looked after even before they arrive. We love that you found the lodge so comfortable, and yes considering its location it is very special.

I am also happy you enjoyed the drives and no malaria is such a plus for us.

I am so pleased you enjoyed the food, we just won: Best Safari Cuisine in Africa 2014 and published the Cook Book. We hope that you will return to Africa and stay with us again.

We recently stayed at Jamala and can not recommend this lodge enough. Everything was absolutely perfect, the rooms spacious, the staff attentive and the food absolutely amazing. On our four night stay we managed to see a great variety of animals including wild dogs on a kill and some cheetahs, amongst many others.
I would recommend spending 3 nights here if time and budget allows as this gives you some time to go on the game drives and some time to experience the amazing facilities the lodge has on offer. A truly memorable stay!

Our experience at Jamala was unforgettable. The personal detail, amazing suites, stunning views and warm and attentive staff, delicious meals and snacks. The best choc chip biscuits and high tea salads ever had. This post cant do justice to our great experience and game viewing. All I can say is if you going to Madikwe there is no better place to experience the passion and love of the bush. The Jamala team love what they do and it shows! Thanks Rod, Nico, Bongi and team for sharing your dreams with us.

Room Tip: Stay for min 3 nights as 1 or two just is not enough! We stayed for 4 and left feeling amazing

Hello ClemD2014
Thank you very much for this wonderful review. Madikwe Game Reserve has incredible game viewing and off course the views over the Jamala Madikwe waterhole cant be beat. We are seeing more animals returning to the waterhole as the rain subsides and winter is going to be incredible for game viewing at the Jamala waterhole. We hope you will return to us in this slice of African paradise. All the best the Jamala-ian's.
