The food was absolutely mouth watering! The staff were there for your every need and truly went out of their way to make our stay memorable! The game viewing was the best I've seen! We’ve just stayed at a similarly priced lodge in another game reserve prior to jaci’s and couldn’t help comparing the experiences we had. Jaci’s is not too bad but lacked details of 5 star qualities. For example, the lodges are placed far apart and very private in a good way but had no telephones, so it’s a bit of a pain if you want to contact a friend in another lodge or needed something from the kitchen in the middle of the night. No tea/coffee making facility in rooms, the lodges had no locks, they had a small safety box but it will only hold small items, definitely can not keep larger things like laptops. It gets quite cold in winter and the outdoor shower wasn’t very comfortable at night. There’s a pretty bath tab indoor but I felt too bad about wasting all the water. Some of the amenity bottles were mucky and looked unhygienic but I used them anyway and the contents were actually great! The other place we stayed always welcomed us back from game drives with hot towels and drinks but we didn’t get that here (a warmish hot chocolate once, I think). The drinks during game drives were also charged extra, although the other place was included. Coffee on game drive was also instant (the other place was freshly pressed coffee). A mouse in our room, though I didn’t mind it since it had a rather sweet face. The staffs were sweet and very friendly, but sometimes overfriendly, they should observe more carefully when you wished to be left alone. I had notified my diet preference (non strict veggie) prior to arrival and at check in but veggie options were not really available throughout the stay. (I did say I wasn’t strict..) food tasted great nonetheless, and Solomon the chef was very sweet and hard working. so jaci's wasn't too bad, it just that "the other place" was actually cheaper and had a better overall quality than Jaci's.

Room Tip: stay close to lobby/dining room for convenience but it can get noisy when staff are getting ready fo...

Dear Champ1gnon,

Thank you very much for your review on Jaci's Tree lodge. We really value constructive feedback as this helps us to achieve the highest levels at all times. We pride ourselves in being a uniquely Bush based Lodge and are operated similar to the lodges you find in the neighbouring African countries. We do not have telephones in the rooms as we do not have any telephone lines and as a company use mobile phones as our management phones & reservations - our cellphone signal at the lodges are working very well and we have repeaters for Vodacom in each lodge. There are emergency numbers as well as the Manager's numbers in the room folder should you need any assistance, we also have full wi-fi at the lodge that has now been installed in all the rooms just to make life a little easier. We have a central coffee and tee station with a vast selection of Filter coffee, Instant Coffee(Decaf & Plain), Hot Chocolate & flavoured teas available 24hrs - we do not have tea and coffee in the rooms for 2 big reasons - we would like the main lodge to be utilized as the gathering place where everyone can enjoy a cup of tea of coffee together and recollect the happenings of the day and use this as a social "lodge"activity. The other reason we have to blame on nature; Our Monkeys have a absolute passion for tea and coffee or any other snacks and will break into the rooms and make a hugemess - we have many stories to tell. However, we do offer the service to deliver coffee or tea to your room on request at any time should you require it. We do not have proper locks and keys for the rooms as we are in the middle of the bush and have no need to lock the doors - the doors have several latches and hook locks to close the door so that our Monkey friends do not intrude. The safety boxes in the rooms are the standard size safety boxes used by all hotels/lodges/resorts country wide. Should you require to lock away your laptop or any larger items you are most welcome to ask management/staff for safekeeping it in the office/reception. Apologies that you didn't get your welcome back drink in the evenings when you returned from game drive, there is always a lovely sherry, gluhwein, hot chocolate awaiting our guests in winter and a refreshing non-alcoholic coctail on return from Safari in the evenings in the summer, also apologies that you weren't greeted or met by a Manager on your return, this is a part of our daily quest and our managers are usually extremely good at this. It has been taken up with them. Also, it is a shame that you found our staff over friendly, they all absolutely love what they do and interacting with guests are the fun part of our job. THis is one of the biggest aspects that we get complimented on: the staff is always so friendly and wonderful. Thank you for the idea of filter coffee in the bush, this is certainly a wonderful idea that we will look into. And lastly, we always want to keep our guests with special dietary requirements happy and it seems like we failed you on this one. We try our best to make sure that we cater for everyones needs and try and always have veggie options available.

We really hope that you will return to Jaci's lodges in the future and understand that we are unique in many ways, and that we are trying hard to keep it as luxury, but rustic as possible, otherwise the whole "bush"feel gets lost easily.

Have a wonderful day.

For us our stay at Madikwe included everything that made it a complete experience. We arrived to friendly greetings from the staff team, in a main lodge area impressively designed to appeal and convey the feel of being within beautiful African bush. We were shown to our comfortable and well planned accomodation in secluded wooden houses in the bush. Thereafter we were treated to game drives with a superb guide,Thomas, whose enthusiasm was constant and contagious. His knowledge is impressive and includes fauna, flora, astronomy and history of the area. Inbetween viewing birds, animals and trees we sat quietly in the dark, gazing up at the clear stars in the night sky. Interspersed with this were times to enjoy marvellously creative and tasty food, set out in different dining areas. Our favourite was brunch on our final morning. The staff set up a dining area under a fig tree on the banks of the river, and the wonderful chef and her team cooked food on a fire made on the ground. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Altogether they created occasions that enabled us to leave with the feel of having had a truly special and unique African bushveld experience. Lennart and Evelyn Eriksson, KwaZulu Natal

As a person who visits South African game lodges at least 3 times a year and has stayed at 5 star accommodation across Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, I can comfortably say that the quality of this lodge is impeccable. I took customers to Jaci's tree lodge earlier this year as part of a business trip. The staff were really friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was outstanding, some of the best cuisine I have ever tasted and to boot, one of my customers that I brought along was lactose and gluten intolerant and vegetarian, and she was absolutely astounded at the variety and quality of the food. The rooms are rustic in look, but clean, functional, enjoyable and very comfortable. The scenery is beautiful and even though it might not be the best game-viewing area of madikwe, the rangers are of an exceptional standard and will no doubt find you what ever you want and at great angles for the photographically inclined. One ranger in particular must be mentioned, Mr. Paul Slyer, a fantastic guide and a most knowledgable ranger- the best I've ever had in ANY game reserve in Africa. He not only finds the wildlife but teaches you to enjoy the whole process of tracking and admiring the find. I can with complete confidence say; WORTH EVERY CENT and then some. A truly unforgettable experience.

We were lucky. South african friends told us that if we wanted a special safaria holiday "go to Madikwe", and if we wanted a very special trip "go to Jaci's Tree Lodge". We followed their advice and what a magnificent time we had for my husband's special birthday. Two three and a half hour off-road game drives per day, unbeatable South African food and service, and accommodation in a beautifully designed, spacious treehouse bordering the Marico River. Visit the website for a comprehensive view but all the key things were brilliant. Our ranger, Thomas, was so knowledgable - not just of the big game animals but also of the small animals and birds. He was very adept at driving through the bush to find interesting animals yet very sympathetic when, having got us to within five metres of magnificent male lions, we were scared and wanted to move on. We had great discussions while sippping our chosen sundowner (would you like white wine, gin tonic ?...) out in the bush, and then the daily surprise of where in the extensive complex of pole-supported tree buildings our evening meal would be served by the super-friendly staff. On the last of our three nights the staff even secretly ran a hot bubblebath for two for our arrival back from the game drive ! What lovely people. What a lovely place. And what a truly memorable adventure.

Room Tip: All eight tree houses seemed similarly well located.

Amazing, a word used by our enthusiastic game ranger (Charis) to describe every siting, sunset and moment and also the word we chose to describe the time we spent at Jaci's Tree Lodge. AMAZING! On arrival every staff member greeted us with a friendly smile, making us feel welcome and comfortable. Every game drive was filled with excitement, enthusiasm, learning, laughter and an abundance of animal sightings. Our walk in the bush was something we will never forget! At first unsure of what our path may hold, our very capable game ranger/conservationist (Craig) put us at ease and taught us something new around every bush/tree. Every meal was delicious; prepared and served with smiles and joy (hats off to all the cooks and waiters). Rounding off every great meal was great company, the host and hostess (Managers Jaco and Diana) made us feel right at home, sharing their personal experiences and lending a hand where needed. All the facilities were clean, relaxing and warm (especially for the cold nights), our rooms where luxurious yet cosy, spacious yet well-kept and for the cold nights the staff made sure we sleep warm making the wake-up call by the lions even more extraordinary. Thank you to every staff member of Jaci's tree lodge who made this break away one to remember! You will most certainly see us again.

Location and people are great. Our guide Francois was a wealth of knowledge. To get there u need to spend 1.5 hrs on dirt roads that are pretty rough; not sure why they don't pay to tar them. Also, for the price es paid, paying extra for water and non-alcoholic drinks is a bit sloppy. The room service was also a bit sloppy. Again, great stay, with great food (they make sure u are fastened up) but for the cost one would expect extraordinary :-)

Thank you so much for your constructive feedback. I applogize for the bad 30km dirt road that you had to drive to get into the Molatedi gate. This road is unfortunately a municipal road and not a part of our beutiful game reserve. After the rain we have had it is truly not the best road with a sedan as stated on our website. The alternative route definately has more tarred roads but will add a extra 1.5hrs to your trip - they are starting to grade the roads in this next coming week, we hope it will be more convenient on your next visit. Regarding our drinks policy, we have a very good market related rate for a full board rate wich offer all accommodation and activities and meals. A lot of other lodges do offer the fully inclusive option where all beverages are included as well, but their rates are double what we charge. We offer the included fruit juices at breakfast and ice water in jugs on the tables (which is 100%) drinkable, also all coffees and tee during your trip is included. Pur bar price lists are very affordable in comparison to your upmarked restaurants, hotels and lodges in South Africa as we do not only cater for a international market. Apologies that you found the room service sloppy, we always strive to do our utmost best. I do recall that you had no clean towels in your room on your last night, we replaced them immediately while you had your dinner and i recall apologizing that evening on the housekeeping behalf. We would like to thank you for praising the staff, and we appreciate the time you took to write this review, enjoy the rest of you trip around the world! We look forward in having you back in the near future
