“Absolute LUXURY”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

This is one truly exceptional Game lodge. Total luxury from beginning to end. The accommodation was superb. Larger than the average house. Beautiful beds, furnishings, view of water hole, great bath tub overlooking water hole, and large private plunge pool. The food and the ambiance was sensational. The dining area overlooks waterhole, where we witnessed Elephants, Kudo, Impala, and a variety of other animals coming to drink. Absolutely awesome experience, from the moment we arrived till we left. Our guide Jacques, gave us a thrilling time.We even saw wild dogs chasing Giraffe, just on dusk. What an experience. We will never forget the wonderful time we had there. The staff could not do enough for you. We woke up to their smiling faces. Nothing was too much trouble. It is very convenient to Johannesburg, if you want to hire a car and drive, which we did, and saw more of south Africa than if we had flown. We loved the Dassies, which lived in the rocks around the lodge. We were up close and personal to these charming little creatures. Quite the comedians too! Just loved every minute of it, even the early morning wake up calls from Jacques ! 6 star !!!!

Room Tip: Rooms in front, are overlooking waterhole, so if you are lucky enough, ask for one of them

Very seldom to provide a 5 star rating, but I must say my Madikwe Hills experience was exactly what was required and more.

SERVICE:
From the Moment you walk in Hannes and his team make you feel as if you have arrived at a 5 star hotel.
The Dinning area is conveniently situated around a watering hole which attracts many an animal, from buck to elephants.
The baristas, waiters and chefs help you enjoy each gastronomic treat with the service they deserve.

ACCOMMODATION:
The rooms cater for your every requirement, from the Sherry when you walk in to outside showers and comfortable bed.

GAME DRIVES:
Both Dwayne and Samuel were excellent and their knowledge of the bush was exceptional. 3 post kill sightings is an absolute treat, not withstanding the excellent snacks and sundowners. Thank you guys, you made my viewing experience - great team.

I am proud to have a lodge of this caliber in South Africa and i recommend this to any person looking for luxury and quality game viewing.

I'm a positive reviewer. I love my country. So I'll seldom write a bad review, which may make the discerning traveler doubt the credibility of my reviews.

However, trust me when I tell you Madikwe Hills is a once in a lifetime experience.

My husband and I viited Madikwe Hills for our 10 year wedding anniversary and we were treated like royalty from start to finish. I've been priviledged to enjoy good service but theirs was exceptional.

Every single time we left our room, we'd come back and find it in perfect condition...every housewife's dream! Right down to the smallest detail, I couldn't fault this lodge.

The seven course meals were not good for my figure but very good for my soul! Sundowners in the bush at sunset, being so close to nature, our own swimming pool, the gorgeous decor, hot stone massages at the spa, the friendly professional staff....I could go on and on about Madikwe Hills.

Madikwe Hills is pricey but, if you want to enjoy the very best of Africa, both her wildlife and hospitality, it doesn't get better than Madikwe Hills.

What a great birthday for my wife. A truly South African stay, warm, great service, exeptional staff and a superb lodge. Greg and Lebo went to great lenghts to get us to the big 5, and the wild dogs. Hannes and the rest of the staff could get a sixth star for their great service. Wow!

Madikwe Hills consists of only ten ultra-luxurious glass-fronted suites each with their own veranda and private plunge pool, ingeniously placed among the boulders. It is a 5* lodge run by the same company as Leopard Hills where I stayed last year, it is very similar in design which is luxury, the rooms are open plan with the entrance room having comfy chairs for relaxing in then there is an open fire (which is really gas) but looks good and has the advantage that you can turn it off, this fire is built into a partial wall so is also in the bedroom area where there is a large bed and then the bathroom/shower (inside and out is at the far end in a separate room. The whole frontage is full length glass patio doors that open onto an elevated wooden deck where you also have your own plunge pool.
Meals are taken either on the dining deck where there is a large fire to keep you warm on cold evenings or in the dining room, we also had a ‘Bush Breakfast’ which is where they set up about 15 minutes from the lodge out in the wild (complete with a BBQ cooking a hot breakfast), the food was all very good and came with a great selection of wine..
Game viewing is done in open top land-cruisers equipped with blankets, poncho’s, hand muffs and hot water bottles for the cold early morning starts and they are allowed off road if they have an animal in sight, maximum of 3 vehicles are allowed at a sighting but we never saw more than 1 other while we were there.
I chose this area as they are quite famous for ‘Wild Dog’ sightings and that the one animal that had previously stayed elusive to me, they have all of the ‘Big 5’ as well as Cheetah, we had a fabulous viewing of a very relaxed Leopard who we stayed with for nearly an hour (40 minutes of this was on out own)..
We had Jacques as our ranger but I must make a special mention of Lebo, he is the loveliest tracker we have met on out travels and its great that he interacts so well with the guests, between them they make a great team!!

We saw four of the Big Five plus much more! Driver Dwayne and Scout Samuel took us on 4 game runs and worked hard at everything. The best part was chasing the wild dogs at dusk one night.

The attention to detail was unsurpassable. On cold morning game runs we had blankets, raincoats, hand muffs and hot water bottles waiting for us. On cold evening game runs one night we had a hot bath waiting for us and the other night we had asked for dinner in our room and the table was set and waiting . . .

Room Tip: We were in Room 4 and it was fantastically romantic.

This was the first stop on our honeymoon combining a 6 night Safari and the Seychelles. This was incredible and the highlight our our holiday. We stayed in the honeymoon sweet, great spacious and luxurious room. The attention to detail really made the difference.

The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and our ranger Greg and tracker Lebo were fantastic. We saw everything we could hope to see on our drives. I would recomment Madikwe Hills to anyone and we hope to visit again.
