We had advise for Impodimo and decided to have a short stay with a group of friends. We all enjoyed every moment of our time at Impodimo, expecially our rides with Sam(tracker) and Kornel (guide) who made our time incredible during our stay.
The facility is good , rooms are celean and people are friendly.
Definately advice to safari lovers .

3 high school girlfriends & I travelled up to Impodimo for a girls' weekend away: a rare occasion for the four of us to catch up without kids & work, plus I in Aus & haven't been to the Bush in years, so it was a real treat! The staff were amazing from the outset, welcoming us with cocktails & explaining the running of the camp before showing us go our rooms & setting off on our first game drive.

We stayed in the Share Holders suite which was simply incredible: 2 separate rooms joined by an inter-leading kitchen/lounge/dining room & best of all, a stunning deck & private swimming hole overlooking the water-hole around which the camp is situated. Although totally luxurious, is was all in muted colors with thatched roofs, plus no air conditioning, only fans & mozzie nets, & no TV, so it somehow still managed to seem part of the landscape. We had elephant drinking from our little swimming hole on the second day, which was unreal & at one stage there were about 12 elephant drinking from the large central water hole, including babies - amazing!!!

The game ranger Ruaan & tracker Sam were fantastic. Ruaan was extremely knowledgeable & we all learned things we hadn't known previously, in spite of growing up in South Africa. We saw an amazing amount of game, which I suppose some people expect from such a Bush experience, but it was obvious the staff made every effort to facilitate this, which isn't always possible. So even on "quiet" drives, they drew our interest to the smaller members of the Eco system like the spiders & dung beetles, which I though was great.

Dinners with other guests & the game rangers were either outdoors around a fire, or in the main dining room. In the absence of TV & very sporadic phone reception (an absolute pleasure for a change!) we relaxed in our private lounge after dinner & chatted or played board games, which, with a few drinks, was brilliant! In addition to a fantastic indoor bathroom, each room had a hot water outdoor shower carved cleverly into a tree trunk, both private, but also with a view of the water hole & open sky: just breath-taking & the perfect way to freshen up after a swim or long dusty game drive. This was definitely a highlight!

The only bit of constructive criticism I've got is regarding the food: admittedly I am pretty fussy (my husband is a chef) & although there was plenty of food with lots of variety, it was occasionally hit & miss. Perhaps keeping things simpler (a good old Braai/BBQ rather than attempting fine dining) would have made it more consistently good, but overall an absolutely sensational experience that left all of us feeling completely renewed & inspired after only 2 days away!

We decided to fly in from Joburg airport with Fed Air(first class pilots), who have the most amazing terminal building with lovely garden to wait in. A short flight had us landing on a dirt runway - very exciting, being met by ranger and taken short drive to Main lodge. Everything that has been said by the following review we can endorse. We also had Patrick and Holiday-just try looking at the stars with Patrick!!!-. We want to go back soon. I also would say that if you can stay longer it is worth skipping a game drive just to sit and watch the wildlife in the peace and quiet. We saw Elephants at the Pool and Lionesses at the lower watering hole and Giraffe and Kudo, Klipspringers, wildebeest etc near the Lodge. Food was great. If I have the smallest criticisms, it would be that alcoholic drinks were an extra which seemed strange after other lodges being all inclusive. And the fact that a lunch was not served- I am one of those people who cannot fill up on a huge breakfast -the excellent staff did serve a sandwich on request . But we loved it

My husband and I spent 3 days at Impodimo and had probably our best safari experience in South Africa yet. Madikwe is just so different from any other park or game reserve we've visited. Our game driver Patrick and tracker Holiday were very professional with many years of experience and tons of knowledge. They led us to lions with babies nursing and fresh kills, to both black and white rhino, to wild dogs, and to just about everything else you could imagine. No leopard or cheetah sightings, but the other sightings were all so special that we were not disappointed. The lodge itself is lovely. We watched elephants walk within about 30 feet of our porch every afternoon. They would then go down to the waterhole and even drink from the pool. This is one of the only unfenced lodges in Madikwe, so one of the only places where you have that special experience. The rooms were very nice, with all the amenities you could want, including a lovely outdoor shower. The food was good for all meals and snacks. I highly recommend Impodimo. Make a reservation when they have a special going, otherwise you will pay and arm and a leg. When they have a special you can get a good rate for everything that comes included (food, game drives, excellent service, etc.).

We've just got back from what was our second visit to Impodimo and it was wonderful. On arrival we were greeted with a warm smile and a cool drink before having everything explained to us about how the lodge runs. After that we were taken to our rooms with a brief stop along the way to see the elephants visiting the pool (if you're lucky, they'll even come while you're having a swim!). Once at the room we were greeted by three local klipspringers on our verandah - a great reminder that this is an unfenced lodge. At tea we were introduced to Tyrone, our ranger who took great care of us for the next five days - along with Sam, our tracker. He made sure that we got to experience a huge variety of animal and bird encounters and took extra time to watch the behaviour of the animals rather than just stop for a photo shoot. Game drives were early morning and evening in open land-rovers with time to relax during the day or the possibility of a bush walk or a massage to fill in the time. Back at the lodge, the food was excellent - we were there for five days and there were no repeats on the menu. There was a wide variety of dishes, including several game meats but always with an alternative for the less adventurous, along with a choice of vegetarian dishes. Expect to put on weight!! The room was very comfortable and spacious with a huge bed, a big bath and inside or outside shower (which only the animals could see in to). Service from all staff members was excellent.

I just returned from my trip and this lodge is unbelievable. The staff is fantastic and Matt (The Manager) is very accommodating. My guest didn't feel so great:( one of the days and he made sure that she was well taken care of. Also, all of the ATM's were out of money on my way to the lodge from Sun City. I called Matt, who was able to give me some Rand and add it to my bill. That's awesome and he didn't have to do that for me. Ruin (The Safari Guide) did an outstanding job, as well! He went out of his way to make sure we saw as many animals as possible. I would definitely return to the lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for the room that faces the watering hole. I think I was in #1.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
On a rugged dolomite ridge overlooking a vast African wilderness, you will find a hidden treasure called Impodimo. Taken from the Tswana words Mpho Dimo, Impodimo means a gift from God, and is truly a slice of heaven on earth. Rise in the morning to an African dawn and enjoy an early morning game drive with your dedicated professional ranger. Relax as your ranger guides you through the bush on a custom made open Land Rover, searching out the Big 5 or the smaller secrets of nature. Set out on a foot safari with your armed ranger and learn the secrets of tracking African game or just enjoy the trees, birds and stunning scenery. Return from the excitement of the bush to a sumptuous breakfast or brunch and then relax at the pool or the sala overlooking the waterhole where game may come to quench their thirst. In the afternoon, when the heat of the African sun has diminished and the shadows are longer, head out again on a sundowner safari, where you will stop to watch the sun set on this bushveld paradise and enjoy your favourite sundowner drink. Once the sun has set and darkness descends, set off again for a night safari where the more nocturnal creatures now rule the bush. Return to the lodge where you will be treated to the finest Pan-African cuisine with your hosts in the open air boma, and share your days adventures, while you enjoy a night cap around the fire. Impodimo Game Lodge is set along a rocky ridge commanding stunning vistas of the reserve. It is also located at the source of a natural spring, which provides the lodge with elevated views as well as riverine serenity. The lodge offers dawn and dusk safaris. The safaris are carefully timed to ensure optimal seasonal comfort. Whilst Impodimo has 10 suites, its capacity is 16 guests. Each of the suites have been carefully positioned to ensure absolute privacy. Spacious in design, each includes a closed system fireplace, climate control air conditioner, mini bar fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and full en-suite bathroom and outside shower. Your private deck allows uninterrupted views of the Madikwe Game Reserve. ... more   less
