Put it on your bucket list! I don't even know where to start since the experience was so amazing, incredible and over the top in every way. A giraffe met our plane on arrival and we saw impala and elephants on our way to the lodge. JP, our field ranger, was intent on showing us as many animals as he could during our six game drives. His genuine love of animals and enthusiasm for every aspect of the bush was infectious, and as a result we saw all of the Big 5, although the one leopard we saw was quite a distance away and could only be seen well through binoculars. The staff is committed to ensuring you have the best experience you can. The website gives you a guideline for tipping but everyone we spoke to wanted to tip more! Between the game drives we were treated to wonderful meals, great drinks, a massage, and the use of our own plunge pool from where we could watch elephants and wildebeest in the distance. My husband and I took a bush walk one day and had a very close encounter with a rhino - a bit too close, but sooooo exciting! We enjoyed every single minute of our stay and can't recommend Madikwe Safari Lodge highly enough.

Room Tip: We liked the fact that our room was close to the main lodge so you could run back and get something...

We spent 3 days and nights at this most wonderful lodge. Everything about it was excellent. The food, the service, the rooms, the outdoor private shower with each room, I could go on and on. The most wonderful part is the location. Right on a lake where there is an abundance of wildlife. Herds of elephant rumble not 30 yards from the rooms! The rangers are outstanding and the opportunities to see Africa's wildlife abound. The night safaris are amazing. This is a must place to stay and to visit the game reserve.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room!

If you have ever had the desire to experience Africa and see what that part of the world has to offer, this place must be on your list. A combination of great accommodations, terrific food and, best of all, a chance to see the most amazing wildlife you could imagine. From beginning to end this lodge has it all. The staff could not be nicer and the rangers are all experienced and knowledgeable. Our guide, J.P., went out of his way to find the animals we wanted to see and get us the best possible view of them. You are never guaranteed to see all you set out to find, but we came close; seeing the Big 5 (although the leopard was a stretch) plus the added bonus of painted wild dogs. More elephants than you can possibly imagine, lions in abundance, with some closer than I ever dreamed, and beautiful scenes of family units such as giraffes, elephants and jackals. In total, this is an experience not to be missed.
The facilities at the lodge are first rate, making your stay very comfortable and stress free. If possible, take a walk in the bush with one of the guides for a completely different perspective. You'll then know what it feels like to be totally vulnerable.

Room Tip: It seemed as though all of the rooms were essentially similar except for their distance from the mai...

We spent 2 nights at Madikwe and found it to be everything we had dreamed of. The staff were great, accommodating and couldnt do enough for us. The lodge was spacious and we didnt want for anything. JP, our field ranger, was passionate about the bush and lots of fun. He even went out of his way to take the kids to the Eco Centre and spent some educational time, whilst showing them Sid, the snake and the spider. Food was excellent, with lots of choice for kids. I would definitely return in the near future. The only complaint was that we should have stayed longer. 2 nights is not enough. Our 9 year old loved the experience. A special thanks to Pieter for the lovely surprise of a bar and niblbles in the bush on our last game drive.

Room Tip: All rooms are superbly placed.

Typical of Africa and safari locations, this place is fabulous. I had my own "house" with a great bedroom and fireplace, living room, bathroom facility that included a dressing/makeup area, separtate toilet, double sink, separate walk in shower and separate tub. the bathroom amenties were wonderful., but i suggest that they be in plastic and not glass bottles. It was one of the cleanest tubs I have ever seen. when i walked out of all the double doors in each room, I was on my own private decking that included a plunge pool, chaise lounges. table and chairs and another incredible outside fully equipped shower. My view was of the Kalahari desert and the reserve and all the animals could come up towards the deck. Turndown service was immaculate. y massage was done in my room. There is no television and that is correct, you are on safari. the phone service to the rest of the lodge leaves something to be deisred as does the wifi connection.the food is ok i have had better at other locations like this but the wine selection is excellent. lighting in my little house is not good. the gift shop is horrible and there is no where else anywhere near this location to be able to purchase remembrances or even select items. this area is known for its wild dogs and there arent even any photos or painting or any other type of souveniers representing the wild dogs. tipping isnot made clear and i suggest for equity, they include tipping in the price. the guides are good but their lectures should be done before any of the safari trips begin and not on the day that you are leaving speaking of which you lose almost a day arriving and almost a day leaving. you cant check in until late afternoon becasue they have to clean facilities from people who have left that morning although you have arrived at the airport that will take you to the location early in the morning. you must check out by 11am to make room for the next group although your connecting flights for the most part are not until the evening so you get stuck at the johansberg airport for too many hours. your treks through the preserve are great for photo taking but if you are looking for a real full blown safari seeing hundreds of species at the same time, go to kenya and tanzania. This lodge shouldhave more facilities such as a spa, even a readidng room in the main lodge part. once you are ot on safari there is nothing to do but to eat and sleep and arrange to get an in room massage time permitting.

Room Tip: all the little houses are the same but request one that is closest to the main lodge/lobby otherwise...
