We had an amazing time in Madikwe Safari Lodge. We stayed at Kopano lodge. The staff was so friendly with a very personal touch. You really felt at home. The food was lovely, especially breakfast was great. Lots of fresh fruit, an hot a la carte menu and other things to choose from. On our last evening we were the only ones in whole Lelapa lodge and the staff prepared a wonderful candle light dinner on the deck of our lodge. What a great surprise!

The room with plunge pool was very nice, large, clean with great views over the bush. There were always 1 or 2 spiders in the room, which you probably can't change when you are in the bush.

Our ranger, Andre, was really great. He was so knowledgeable and was not only able to find the big animals but also was able to amaze us with stories and knowledge about the small animals in the bush. We were lucky and had three game drives alone with him, on where we took a 1, hours walking safari which was an amazing experience.

One suggestion for the management: Maybe you want to think about a FAQ section on the website. I was looking for information on weather and things to bring and couldn't find anything.

I cannot sing enough praises about this lodge and our experience there. We did a 5 night safari and despite being told it was too long, I'm glad we stayed longer. Everyone from Rebecca, Maureen, Mathews, and the other staff were wonderful! At one point, the manager (Peter) failed to address us and two other guests and our dissatisfaction with this treatment was handled very nicely.

Billy was our guide and he was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Every effort was made to find the specific animals we requested to see and despite the fact that our vehicle was full almost the entire time, Billy tried to ensure that everyone's wish list was met. I was really moved by how much the rangers at this lodge respect and care about the wildlife. One time, we came across an injured lion and even though the some of the guests asked to get closer, the Billy explained that it was not in the best interest of the lion. I also loved the fact that there weren't too many vehicles crowding the animals at one time - it made for a much nicer experience.

One morning, we heard a lion roaring and another day we saw elephants and giraffes from our lodge. The lodges were nice too though for a five-star experience, I would have liked not having the company of bugs in my room... I think that better insulation of the doors and windows could remedy this issue as there were gaps under the doors and in the windows that allowed for these visitors to enter. At one point, we placed towels and magazines to cover the gaps under the door and it helped. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend this lodge and the staff and experience was everything we hoped for and so much more!

Just returned from a 4 day trip in April staying at the family Lelapa lodge. Had the most wonderful experience and can't recommend the Madikwe Safari lodge highly enough.
Our wonderful travel company, Audley Travel, arranged the trip and assured us that this lodge and reserve would be perfect for a family with children and they weren't wrong! From start to finish it was a fantastic experience and we can't wait to go back.

The lodge was amazing, so luxurious, with lovely little touches around the room. Our children loved the African fables that were left for them of an evening to read and also the Easter eggs on their pillows! The suites were plenty big enough for a family of 4 and we all enjoyed spotting elephants and giraffes from the wooden viewing deck outside. There was also a great choice of activities to keep the children entertained in between the safari drives.

All the staff were great, really friendly and accommodating, especially Constance in the restaurant and Billy, our truly gifted Ranger. He made the safari experience what it was and was truly dedicated to ensuring that we all had the most amazing wildlife adventure. It's also definitely worthwhile getting a relaxing indulgent massage to ease away the bumps of the safari vehicle while you're there.

As mentioned before the food really was superb. Everything was delicious and there was enough choice for adults and children alike. We especially enjoyed the evening around the 'boma' where we dined under the stars with our ranger and fellow guests.

Thank you to all the staff at Madikwe Safari Lodge for the most wonderful family trip ever!

My wife and I spent 4 days and 3 amazing nights at Madikwe and have to say it exceeded even our wildest hopes and dreams. The amazement began as JP, the most energetic and knowledgeable guide in the whole of SA we're convinced, took us to a lion kill within 10 minutes of landing! By the end of the first two game drives we had already seen 4 of the Big Five, and later added wild dogs and numerous other species. On our 5th game drive we finally spotted the elusive Leopard. What an experience and adventure.

As for the Lodge, it too is amazing!! The common areas are all open, but beautifully decorated in natural materials and local charm. The suites are large, private and include a great wrap around patio with a "cooling pool" from which we spotted elephants, giraffes, and other animals while relaxing with a drink. So peaceful and natural. And, for those who may be concerned, there were almost no insects to speak of, though we did keep ourselves sprayed.

The food at the Lodge was wonderful as well. So surprising that a place so remote could offer gourmet dining. We sampled everything, including Kudu, Ostrich, and Ox Tail, along with more conventional fine dining. We had two Boma's, which we learned means "enclosure", but to us it meant dining by lantern-light with new friends. Fantastic!

We also want to acknowledge the role of Lion World Travel in packaging this perfect trip. Everything, including all accommodations, transfers, air travel, food vouchers, helicopter trips, etc. were delivered without incident or problem. Even the weather was perfect (OK, maybe they can't get credit for that). They also have a great reputation at all the hotels and lodges that make up the trip, which is nice to know and experience.

We would unconditionally recommend Madikwe Safari Lodge and Lion World Travel!!

Room Tip: Get a suite close to the common areas, to save time and for safety. After dark you must be escorted...

I can't rate the Madikwe Safari lodge highly enough. My wife and I stayed for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon in August 2013.
Everything was perfect. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The food was out of this world and the service impeccable. The accommodation was completely luxurious.
The game drives were out of this world and our ranger JP was a fantastic guy. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his job and a fun guy. We only missed out on seeing Leopards. Maybe next time! ;-)

Room Tip: If travelling in August be sure to pack for cold mornings/nights and mild/warm days.

Our experience at Madikwe Safari Lodge was amazing. We stayed at The Kopano Lodge where Rebecca and the rest of the staff made us feel simultaneously so at home and so spoiled. All of the food was delicious, from the coffee and snacks in the morning to the dinners each night. We were hardly ever hungry but somehow managed to eat everything on our plates every time because it was so good! Also, from the back decks of our lodges we could see herds of elephants and giraffes walking across the bush!

Our safari ranger was JP. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife on the reserve. We saw four out of the big five. No elusive leopard--but we tried really hard! (I think JP was the most upset that we didn't see one). JP always had interesting stories and information about everything we saw from the big animals to birds and plants. One of the best parts was when we would stop on the night drive to just listen to the sounds. Overall it was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone!
