“Fantastic place”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

An extremely nice Safari Lodge with only a few rooms and excellent service. Very experienced guides during the Game drives and all the "Big 5" to be seen.
A game water hole at a 100 m distance from the Lodge gives a possibility to see animals without leaving the Lodge. One evening we saw a Black Rhino. Amazing !

Dear Jonas
We are happy to receive your comment and to get highest ratings in all aspects, which confirms that you had a great time at Rhulani. This is very important for us and motivates our team to constantly offer best service to our guests.
You mention that the lodge has "only a few rooms". That's right! With the 7 individual, private chalets plus one family unit we want to keep the atmosphere of Rhulani at a level where our guest can enjoy silence and privacy. We are glad that you liked it!
If we understand well, you are living in Sweden, and it's winter-time there. We hope that your safari memories will warm you up during cold days and hopefully, once in the future, we will see you and your family back at Rhulani.
With best wishes
Yours Rolf & Marisa

Stayed at Rhulani Madikwe in December 2013. It was beyond our expectations. The lodge, the staff , the entire experience was amazing. The game drives were fantastic. We saw the most amazing game over and over again and our ranger Jaques was so knowledgeable and interesting. The 3 hour game drives just flew past. The entire team at a rhulani were so friendly and helpfully ensuring our stay was the best. And it was. We were so sad to leave.

Dear Mr or Mrs Heilig

with great pleasure we have received your impressions about your recent stay at Rhulani. We thank you very much for taking the time to comment on TripAdvisor, as we use this tool actively to know about the level of satisfaction of our guests, and to make improvements, where necessary.

Our rangers also told us that game drives have just been amazing in the last couple of weeks, and we believe that it must be because Madikwe is just a great reserve with such a big diversity of animals. But more than that: Jacques, Chris and Grant after so many years working for Rhulani, know the bush like the back of their pocket and go the extra-mile every day. So great that you had a wonderful time on the game drive vehicle!

We are also happy to know that you found helpful staff with friendly faces at Rhulani. We deeply believe that this is a result of our constant efforts to train our staff, let them participate in decisions, and give recognitions for excellent performance, so that our staff really likes to work in our team.

We hope that what you describe as a "one in a lifetime experience", will be possible for you to repeat in the future, and maybe one day we see you again at Rhulani, would be wonderful!

With best wishes

We traveled with our two adult children over New Year's and our expectations were definitely exceeded. From the moment we arrived the service and overall atmosphere was amazing. Special thanks to Grant for making the drives exceptional, your enthusiasm and attention were most appreciated. The game viewing was fantastic and we couldn't miss any of the early morning drives, knowing something unexpected and different would happen. The cheetah, recent lion kill, hyeena den and cubs and wild dog-elephant herd standoff were highlights.

The food was excellent and the staff were always ready to make things just right, including vegetarian dishes for our daughter. We stayed in the family two room bungalow (3 and 4) and the accommodation was top class and the private plunge pool bigger than we expected.

We are only sorry we didn't miss the plane out on the last day (we know you tried Grant) and get to stay longer. Can't wait to have a chance to return. Thanks!

Dear Liz and Alister

we were aware that your family chose Rhulani for a very special moment (New Year). For our team those days are also very special where we want to offer an unforgettable experience and a perfect service to our guests. We as owners (unfortunately...) do not live at Rhulani, and so we were curious to know how everything turned out for you, and thank you for your feedback. We feel so happy that in this busy period, where the camp is usually fully booked, you experienced the tranquility and a personalized service, which we think is characteristic for Rhulani, and are aspects we constantly work on to keep it at highest level.

Wonderful how you summarize your game drive experiences, and to read that you not only enjoyed to see different types of animals, but also the different situations in which you encountered them. The enthusiasm of our General Manager Grant, together with his "good nose" to find the right spots after so many years, was certainly very helpful.

After a good start into 2014, we hope that the year continues successful and healthy for you, and hopefully we will see you back at Rhulani in the future!

Yours Marisa and Rolf

This is the second time we have been to Rhulani. The food was incredible, the accommodation was comfortable and the wildlife sightings were brilliant.

Jacques was a great host and constantly displayed his in depth knowledge and passion for the African bush.

Will definitely be back....

Dear Rob
we are very pleased to receive such a wonderful comment and excellent rating from you, as one of our estimated returning guests. In your evaluation you mention probably the three most important aspects, which contribute to a high satisfaction level: Food, Room and Game Drives. We promise that we are carefully maintaining the quality of those key points, and are permanently analyzing how to further improve them. We look forward to seeing you soon back at Rhulani, and many thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us and other readers.
Best wishes for the New Year

We travelled to Rhulani in Mid September and spent 4 amazing nights. We flew in on the fedair charter and where greeted by Grant who was our guide for the upcoming days. On the way to the lodge Grant took us to a waterhole where we got a taste of whats to come with a close encounter with elephants. The Lodge is beautifully presented and the staff are very friendly and offer excellent service. They definitely made us feel at home. The game drives where absolutely amazing and we where fortunate enough to see almost every animal you could possibly think of besides the leopard(we will be back for that). We also enjoyed grants 'wild and wacky drive' on the last day where he taught us some interesting facts about the plants and animals, as well as giving us a basic guide on tracking and distinguishing one animals tracks from another. Thank you Grant and Monique for making this such a special holiday and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Dear Chris
thank you very much for your visit to Rhulani. We are happy to know that you made a wonderful safari experience during game drives (the first one already from the airstrip to the lodge) and received a perfect attention from our staff while staying at the lodge. There is indeed a lot to see in the bush beside the animals, and we are glad to hear that the additional experiences you made during Grant´s "wild and wacky" drive will also stay in your best memories.
We are very sorry that during your 4 nights stay, you did not get to see the leopard. This is indeed a great challenge, but we totally agree with you, it is a good reason to come back!
Many thanks for your kind words, and we wish you all the best for the New Year.

The worst part of any good experience, is knowing it has to stop.

We therefore tried to postpone that as long as possible, and really enjoyed talking to you guys, after all the other guests departed.

I could talk about "ALL" the animals we saw, and the interesting encounters we had, feeding the lions, the conservancy project, etc, but at the end of the day, it was the total experience that stood out, where we realised, we were not just guests, but you enjoyed having us and driving us.

Jacques, when you battled to drive because of all the laughter, and because of the pouring rain, yet you even stopped in the rain for us not too miss the Black Rhino. Your driving skills at night in a down pour with hail, and still we could even enjoy and laugh about it.

Nothing was too much, and on each return, there was either a clean face cloth or an umbrella.

We definately had to eat less after the weekend, to fit into the clothes again, after all the spoils and good food.

Grant, thanks to you and the entire team, we'll remember it for a long time.

Dear Jacques
it is a great pleasure to read your comment and to know that you had an exciting time at Rhulani, with all sorts of special situations on game drives with Jacques, from a wild animal sighting but also from a weather perspective. You describe those moments in a way that it gives us the feeling we were also there, enjoying special moments in the bush, and even laughing about the unpredictable.
Out of your words, we trust that our on-site team at Rhulani fully contributed to an enjoyable stay, and there was no specific objection or reason why you deducted one point from the maximum rating. Otherwise, we would be very thankful to hear back from you (maybe by e-mail).
We are writing these lines on the 24 December and do not want to miss the opportunity to wish you and your family Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
With best regards
Rolf & Marisa

I have been lucky enough in my life to travel the world. I must say that Rhulani Lodge is definitely one of the best places I have been to so far (beats maldives). The staff were awesome and so friendly, food fantastic and rooms were spectacular. We were also lucky to see four cheetah, lions, rhino and a pack of wild dogs making a kill. Well done Rhulani staff for making our weekend so special and memorable.

Room Tip: choose room 5 great view of watering hole to see all the animals

Dear Megan
Thank you for your stay at Rhulani and for your wonderful comment. We are very pleased that we were able to thrill you on a weekend not too far from your home.
The Wild Dog Kill you witnessed on one of your game drives was also for us an event that we probably will not see again so soon. Our manager Grant has told us also enthusiastically about it, and he filmed and posted it on our YouTube channel "Rhulani Safari Lodge" - just amazing, we could not believe it!
We hope that you visit us again soon, and send you our best regards and wishes for the New Year.
