“Relaxing Stay!”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

Casa Europa is the place to stay in Taos, if you want an: A+ in comfort, A+ in hospitality, A+ in decor, A+ in atmosphere, A+ in location, A+ in room size, A+ in delicious breakfast, A+ in cleanliness!!! I have no complaints and I have owned one service business or another for over 35 years, and am super critical and hard to please! The owners are friendly, posses a sense of humor and are familiar with the area! I'd highly recommend staying here. Did I mention the comfort of a real mattress and not a hard 'commercial mattress' you'd find at a standard hotel?? We did miss the slamming doors and guests trampling in at all hours like a hotel.......NOT! ;-)

My wife and I were greeted by Joe who immediately took the time to make us feel at home. He gave us great restaurant recommendations as well. We stayed in the Taos Mountain room which was upstairs....very quiet, comfortable, impeccably clean with a nice separate balcony overlooking a lovely garden. Joe and Lisa's breakfasts (and Lisa's daily afternoon dessert!) were very good. The common lounge areas are beautiful as is the house with it's thick adobe walls and beautiful New Mexican decor. We enjoyed staying here the most out of the all of the places we stayed during our 12 day trip to New Mexico.

We had chosen this B&B for our 4 night stay in Taos and were not disappointed. On arrival we were met by our lovely host Joe who showed us round the inn. What a super place; the public lounges, one upstairs & one down were large, comfortable and relaxing. There were books, games, magazines etc for visitors to enjoy and bowls of choccy treats dotted around the property.

We stopped in the Taos Mountain room which was clean, spacious and had its own private balcony overlooking the back courtyard. It was blissfully quiet and we all slept like logs. Daughter had her own single bed down at the far end of the room by the fireplace.

Breakfasts were delicious and freshly prepared by Lisa who obviously enjoys cooking. Joe kept me well supplied with boiling water to make English Breakfast tea! We particularly enjoyed chatting with them at breakfast & had some fun times translating our English phrases and sayings! They were both so friendly and easy to talk to.
The Inn is out in the countryside a couple of miles from town - we liked this aspect of the property but you do need a car if staying here.

Since returning home we’ve made the “Casa Europa” peanut butter cookies – a scrumptious reminder of our time in Taos.

This was our first visit to Taos and our first stay in a B & B. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was blown away by the Casa Europa and our hosts, Joe and Lisa. Their home is amazing with comfortable sitting rooms, spiral staircases, a beautiful outdoor garden and something unique around every corner. We stayed in the Willow Room and couldn't have been more comfortable. The morning breakfast was sumptuous as was the afternoon desert (available for you in the fridge later in the day, should you be out exploring). Joe and Lisa made us feel welcome and were wonderful hosts. We hope to visit again in the near future.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Willow room and loved it. It was the summer, Joe told us to open the windows at ni...

My husband had planned a romantic anniversary getaway for us to Taos and had chosen the Casa Europa (though we had never been there). He had worked with Lisa (host) on the phone, who had been quite helpful and nice. Upon arrival in New Mexico, my husband called the host (Joe) and let him know that we would be spending time in Santa Fe and would be arriving late to the B&B. When we arrived, we could not find anyone and there were no instructions what to do. After walking around the facility, we found a door with the name of the room we reserved on it and the door was open. We walked in and found the room hot and humid. My husband called the host (Joe) to tell him that we had arrived but were having difficulty with the room. Joe arrived annoyed and quite rude. We explained about the temperature and he said, "Just leave the front door open. It has a screen." We were on a romantic trip and were in an unfamiliar location ... we had no intention of leaving our door open. When we told him about the temperature he said, "This is Taos. We don't use air conditioners here." My husband showed him the hot tub located right in the room and said that it was on and there was no temperature control. It was therefore continuously putting hot, steamy air in the room. Joe's response was to walk over to the hot tub, put his hand in it and say, "It's not that bad."

He then said that obviously we were unhappy and they could find someplace else for us to stay. It was already past 8pm at night and my husband said, "Please give my wife and I a few minutes to discuss this." Joe responded, "You obviously don't like this. So gather your things and get out."

I was devastated. My husband was furious. He had worked with Lisa for weeks to have this room ready. He had ordered flowers and chocolates to be waiting for us and Lisa said that she would take care of it. None of these items were waiting on us.

As we were packing up our luggage back into our vehicle, Lisa came running out asking us what had happened. We explained to her what had happened and that we were leaving. She was disappointed and said that she had looked forward to meeting with us. When Buddy explained the situation, she was surprised that none of our arrival preparations had taken place. She explained that Joe had been through a difficult loss and that he wasn't "good with situations like that." While we felt sorry that Joe was going through a difficult time, it did not change how we were treated. My thought was that if Joe was struggling, he probably should not have been dealing with guests.

Lisa apologized for Joe's behavior and we told her that we appreciated her coming out and speaking to us. However, we were left in Taos at nearly 9 pm, the day before the Fiesta de Taos, with no where to stay. We really didn't want to drive back down the mountain to Santa Fe or Albuquerque to try to find something. We were able to find an Inn at the last minute. We explained our situation and the Inn felt so bad for us that they took care of us for the rest of our trip. They turned our nightmare into a second honeymoon. (This historic Inn had air conditioning. So I guess there are some air conditioners in Taos.)

We had seen nice reviews of the Casa Europa, but, unfortunately, we did not have such a nice experience. We often stay in B&B's because we enjoy meeting the various guests and innkeepers. We have always had great experiences but this was the first time we had been greeted so harshly. We will not return.

I have now stayed there 2 times in three years, but neglected to write a review the first time. Joe and Lisa and awesome hosts, the morning breakfasts and afternoon desserts are great, the B&B itself has a lot of character, and the location is far enough away to seem secluded but close enough for a short drive to most activities. We stayed in the "Casitia" for 3 nights, which is perfect for a family of 4 or for a couple who just wishes to have a little more space and a kitchen.

Nice home with nice hosts. Joe and Lisa were welcoming and knowledgable about their area and neighborhood. You will need a car to get back to town for dinner. Not really in the center of town but nice and quiet for a restful sleep.
