“A little disappointed”
Reviewed 3 April 2014 via mobile

After booking the el pueblo lodge based on reviews posted on tripadvisor, I have to admit I was a little disappointed. In fact, I am still trying to figure out how it obtained a rating of number one hotel in Taos. It honestly felt like we were at a motel that seemed a little worn around the edges. Finding a suite to fit our family of five is never easy, but I do think that if there is a sleeper sofa option, then they should be comfortable enough to sleep in. My daughter complained that her back hurt the next morning from the springs in the mattress.
Next time, we return to Taos, I will definitely book an earthship for our family.

We're back for our third visit to Taos, which means a stay at El Pueblo Lodge, in the last 2 years. This is Taos in the off-season - skiing is over, summer hasn't arrived - and it's easy to remember how the town felt more than 30 years ago. The El Pueblo staff, particularly Lupita (Lupe!) in the breakfast area and Dawn, at the front desk, were friendly, helpful, and generous with information. We'll keep coming back.

Room Tip: Rooms along the back, farthest from the road, are very quiet and pleasant. Ice machine is close an...

We stopped in Taos during our spring break trip across New Mexico, and the El Pueblo Lodge was the perfect place for us. We stayed in the old, adobe section of the original building, which they said dated back to about 1912. The thick walls made for a quiet, cozy room. The staff was friendly and helpful, and my kids loved petting the big chocolate labs that live there. The grounds included lots of room to run around, and there are a couple of horseshoes pits. Oh, and we all loved the fresh-baked cookies offered throughout the day at the front desk. The breakfast area was wonderful -- you could sit on the heated patio, or inside in one of several little nooks. The breakfast buffet had just about everything you could think of, including freshly sliced fruit, juices, waffles, oatmeal, and muffins. The location is an easy walk to the main shopping plaza and several restaurants. We will definitely stay here again!

El Pueblo Lodge was a great value for us. Our room was clean and very large, including a very large bathroom. The lodge area has several amenities, including laundry facilities, which we learned are no longer as common in hotels as they ought to be! Breakfast at El Pueblo Lodge is also unmatched -- fresh fruit, baked goods, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, and all manner of morning beverages, from juice to coffee, hot chocolate, and several varieties of tea.

But the main thing setting this hotel apart from others is the wonderful, wonderful staff. The front desk was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and eager to help and answer questions. And the woman who sets out the breakfast each morning routinely went out of her way to ensure all visitors had everything they needed.

El Pueblo
We recently spent 3 nights in Taos (so loved it, we wished it had been longer….) staying at the El Pueblo Lodge. What a great choice! Really helpful and pleasant staff (thanks Bridget and Phaedren!) A lovely Unit (we asked for a quiet one and were right back from the road – but I don’t think there would be a really bad choice there) Huge bed, huge television, and a very good shower. A lovely fireplace completed the picture. And a terrific breakfast – done buffet-style, with staff that couldn’t do enough to help (Hi Lupita!) This place has its heart absolutely in the right place, but is incredibly efficient too. On a couple of occasions we needed help, and it was there almost before we’d finished making our request on the phone! And at the end, we needed to fill up the windscreen wash liquid in our hire-car and Gerry did it in an instant – and even (unasked) checked the oil, too. Now that’s really going above and beyond!

It’s also a quick walk to the Fechin house and Taos Art Gallery, which is really worth a visit.

Room Tip: We were towards the back of the property downstairs and it was just fine - but I imagine all rooms a...

My friends and I had a wonderful weekend staying at El Pueblo Lodge! We drove to Taos from San Antonio to go snowboarding at Sipapu and cannot say enough about the hotel and the service we received! I had my eye on a few different locations that had the BOGO-free deal (buy lift tickets, get a hotel room free or buy a hotel room, get lift tickets free) and decided to stay here because of the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Booking was a breeze and the night employee (I'm sorry I've forgotten her name) took steps to ensure that we could retrieve our room keys even though our arrival time was 4 a.m.!

The room was beautifully decorated, spacious, and warm and the beds were SO, SO comfortable! We crashed immediately and woke up early to grab some complimentary grub. Breakfast was great! There was a lot of variety and the staff made sure to check on each table individually even though it was a serve-yourself deal. Both mornings we were happy with the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the dining area.

Service was impeccable even though we ran into a few snafus. Firstly, we misplaced our free lift tickets (perhaps they were with the keys in the dropbox and in our exhausted state we didn't notice them?) but Phaedren made us copies from the hotel's and called Sipapu to ensure that they would be honored in lieu of our own. He handled the situation graciously and was very helpful - even cluing us into the pond-skimming activities that were going on while we were at the resort (which were super entertaining to watch)! Then, my credit card was only approved for the first night which I did not discover until 8 p.m. the next night! Again the night employee was very courteous and accommodating and didn't make me feel awful about an honest mistake. She also set us up with Scrabble for the night, which we played after soaking our post-snowboarding bruises in the hot tub!

I would definitely recommend El Pueblo Lodge for a fabulous deal, comfortable rooms, wonderful amenities and helpful staff!

Room Tip: If you're traveling for a skiing/snowboarding trip, be sure to check and see if they're doin...
