“Christmas retreat”

We have stayed at the El Pueblo Lodge two years in a row now, and intend to return for many more. We love the quaint motor lodge feel and the friendly staff. The continental breakfast is better than you find at most chain hotels, and is staffed by the most wonderfully friendly lady! Lupita is amazing, always checking in with you to make sure you have had enough, or if you need anything!! We love that it is pet friendly so our Lab can come with us to stay and enjoy the snow and quiet nights by the fireplace. The lodge is fairly centrally located to many attractions in town. It's a bit of a drive up to the ski resort, but we go to be in the Mountains, not to ski them. It has been our experience that the rooms are very clean, and well maintained. We also love that we get resupplied with firewood and starters every morning. Great service, great staff, great place to stay.

Room Tip: We love the rooms with the fireplaces. We go in December, and after being out in the cold all day it...

We stayed for two nights in April and had a very large room with two queen beds and a fireplace. There was a separate area with a fridge, dresser, and place to hang up clothes and then a huge bathroom. The large room was a real plus for us as we (three of us) were on a ski trip and had lots of ski clothing, etc. We used the fireplace both nights and it worked out really well. The breakfast was excellent but it was not a hot breakfast (only cold items). The coffee wasn't the best but everything else was more than adequate. We used the hot tub / spa in the pool area and found it be excellent (hot temperate and the sun shining down on us was a real plus). All in all this place was as good as advertised.

Room Tip: Look carefully at the pictures on line.

Upon arrival, the front desk had fresh cookies waiting for guests, which were quite welcome after several hours in the car! Check in process was easy and all of the staff at the hotel was friendly and extremely helpful. We used the hot tub before dinner and this was large and hot and excellent for sore muscles. Our room looked to be newly renovated, with a large bedroom area with separate large bathroom/shower. The shower was new with lovely soaps and shampoos. The bed was extremely comfortable and sheets were bright white and clean. We had a microfridge and coffee maker, but take advantage of the continental breakfast, which was nicer than most with breads, muffins, yogurt, fruit, waffles, hard boiled eggs, and even gluten free items. The breakfast staff was sweet and attentive, constantly bringing hot coffee to everyone's table. The breakfast area was enormous, everyone in the hotel could probably be there and eat comfortably around the motel's beautiful patio and yard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be back. It is a very nice motel with great owners and staff. They obviously care about their facilities. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: I don't believe there is a bad room. We were near the road, but there was no noise to speak of...

After booking the el pueblo lodge based on reviews posted on tripadvisor, I have to admit I was a little disappointed. In fact, I am still trying to figure out how it obtained a rating of number one hotel in Taos. It honestly felt like we were at a motel that seemed a little worn around the edges. Finding a suite to fit our family of five is never easy, but I do think that if there is a sleeper sofa option, then they should be comfortable enough to sleep in. My daughter complained that her back hurt the next morning from the springs in the mattress.
Next time, we return to Taos, I will definitely book an earthship for our family.

We're back for our third visit to Taos, which means a stay at El Pueblo Lodge, in the last 2 years. This is Taos in the off-season - skiing is over, summer hasn't arrived - and it's easy to remember how the town felt more than 30 years ago. The El Pueblo staff, particularly Lupita (Lupe!) in the breakfast area and Dawn, at the front desk, were friendly, helpful, and generous with information. We'll keep coming back.

Room Tip: Rooms along the back, farthest from the road, are very quiet and pleasant. Ice machine is close an...

We stopped in Taos during our spring break trip across New Mexico, and the El Pueblo Lodge was the perfect place for us. We stayed in the old, adobe section of the original building, which they said dated back to about 1912. The thick walls made for a quiet, cozy room. The staff was friendly and helpful, and my kids loved petting the big chocolate labs that live there. The grounds included lots of room to run around, and there are a couple of horseshoes pits. Oh, and we all loved the fresh-baked cookies offered throughout the day at the front desk. The breakfast area was wonderful -- you could sit on the heated patio, or inside in one of several little nooks. The breakfast buffet had just about everything you could think of, including freshly sliced fruit, juices, waffles, oatmeal, and muffins. The location is an easy walk to the main shopping plaza and several restaurants. We will definitely stay here again!
