“Good choice for Taos”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

Lodging in downtown Taos are rather limited. This hotel is walkable to everything in the heart of town, has a lot of charm and historic appeal, pretty lively bar/lobby scene, and friendly staff. The rooms are clean, but generally very small and sparse, and lack the amenities of a business class hotel (which they are not). It is also rather expensive, paying 165 + tax per night. We spent a few nights, and enjoyed our stay. The only problem was persistent internet and phone outages, which made it difficult to keep in touch with the office or do download a newspaper, skype home, etc. There are a bunch of chain hotels a couple of miles from downtown, and I think I might have been happier there, and had a lower price.

My husband and I were here the last week of December. The hotel was so charming and was decorated so nice for the holidays. We had a room in the back of the property that had a fireplace in it. Definitely worth the extra money if you are there in the winter to have the fireplace. The happy hours were great. If you go and you are a guest, you can sit at a table upstairs and look down into the lobby. We didn't realize this the first day. It is a great place to sit and have your drinks/snacks and people watch. We really loved this hotel and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room in the back courtyard as it is away from the noise. Also, the fireplace was a nice touch...

It's small in the main area, and the nightly music is piped up the two story central area so it can be noisy as well if your room is in the main building. My room was a last minute special as plans suddenly changed, and was dingy and had a nasty airconditioning system that was essentially unuseable due to its roar. Luckily it wasn't hot at night, just stuffy, as the nights cool off significantly in Taos.

The outdoor terrace is small and right on the main road so a bit noisy, but nice as evening falls. The inside bar and performance area is crowded and busy and seeing the performer can be a challenge, and the quality ranges widely according to taste.

The central location is good, and a room in one of the out buildings would be the way to go as that would be quieter and the location can't be topped. Walk down the street to the coffee shop on the SE corner just before the plaza. It opens at 7 (even on Memorial Day), has some nice muffins and such, and is a local center for good coffee and local color; you can overhear the trials and tribulations of local business folks at times as well there.

Room Tip: Ask about ventilation as some windows don't open and the antiquated air conditioning can keep yo...

Taos Inn is has so much to offer than a place to sleep. I was very fascinated by the hotel historical stories behind and the uniquely traditional Southwestern architectures. The atmosphere was friendly peaceful regardless of its central location in Taos. The bar and restaurant in house made everything available for good quality local food, refreshing margaritas and nightly live music! Also 3 for 2 room deal definitely completed my satisfied getaway vacation. Highly recommend Taos Inn to everyone!

Room Tip: Every room is uniquely designed real vintage Southwestern style. The Sandoval House has a private pa...

We really enjoyed our stay at Historic Taos Inn, with it's comfortable rooms decorated in southwestern decor. On Saturday night, some musicians and three flamingo dancers put on a wonderful floor show showcasing their culture in dance, song and dress. We loved it. Wonderul view from the balcony around the top floor. The interior design is so unique. Don't miss a Margarita in the courtyard!

Room Tip: For a quiet restful stay, choose a bunglalow room with courtyard in back of the orginial building...

We found the inn to be quiet and peaceful. It was hard to believe we were in the middle of downtown Taos. Our room was in the courtyard area and it was wonderful to listen to the birds in the morning. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The entertainment in the bar was great. Thought it was a great location and a good price.

Overall, this is a good place. Historice old hotel w/ beam ceilings, kiva fireplaces (that don't operate) & decent prices. Close to the plaza & shops. The restraurant is good & it has the most popular bar in town. As other have stated, the bar is noisy (music every nite) so avoid the main Inn and any of the rooms outside that face the walk ways that the drunks use to get to the parking lot. But there website shows a good site plan & pictures of every room, so you should be able to get something quiet. Avoid room 202
